DLC18 discussion and predictions

Kind of mixed feelings on the pack so far. Not really getting last pack vibes from this. The African leopard is a rather strange choice especially considering they’re virtually nonexistent in zoos. Any other subspecies would make more sense. Heck give me an asiatic lion or Sumatran tiger. Don’t get me wrong it’s definitely better than nothing but still. Looking forward to the markhor and baboon. I assume no musk ox, Secretary bird, new world monkey ect. Was hoping for a zookeeper collection type pack but oh well maybe this won’t be our last pack.

Sounds cool ngl. But i think if you have a pack with 4 themes in one it would be kinda strange to not emphasize that in the pack art
I mean, I think it’s possible (but mostly copium) now we are sure it’s a highlands pack. But Frontier loves to keep us on our toes.

We have Himilayan scenery, and animals native to high mountains. While the hamadryas baboon is native to one mountain range in the Arabian peninsula , it just feels out of place. That would be like me calling a wood duck a mountain animal because you can find them in Mount Washington. Maybe it’s an Asian pack, maybe it’s a highlands pack. That theory is based on 0 basis, but maybe that’s the case? Or maybe it’s a zookeeper pack, and there are two animals per theme?

So we have
  • Mountains of Asia with markhor and pallas cat
  • Some other theme with hamadryas baboon
That still leaves another 5+ animals, that can either be zookeeper, mountains, Asia, or anything else.

Who knows, maybe the theme is climbing?

I’ve never really understood everyone’s fixation on the Himalayan monal. It’s not a broadly well known species, hasn’t appeared in any other prominent zoo games (which is no doubt where at least some portion of the secretarybird’s popularity comes from, for instance), and I wasn’t under the impression that they’re all that common in zoos. Am I wrong on that last point, or missing something else? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any issues with it, I just don’t get what makes it seemingly more popular than, say, the golden pheasant.

I’ll also suggest Andean tinamou as a long shot bird inclusion.
In the Uk, they are found at Chester, Edinburgh and Marwell - three of the biggest zoos in the country. They are not uncommon in other countries
As well and clearly depict a mountainous gamebird

Also I’m debating whether this is the last pack or not. While on 1 side we’re looking for the big theme of zookeeper collection or grab all type pack, but with games like Planet Coaster it’s last pack wasn’t obvious that it was the last one. Plus the point Iben made a while back made sense. This pack with barnyard together in a bundle for the console people that would release May perfectly fitting in line with the end of their financial year
but then again we’re almost at 200 animals
 I DONT KNOW haha

Does he have a chance?

I do wonder if we will see any more arid mountain species other than the baboon to be honest, most of the popular picks are from colder regions. Only the Aoudad and the hyrax ever really get brought up... Oh and I guess the rock wallaby.

Though maybe instead we will see more tropical mountain species like the spectacled bear or tree kangaroo, either way it's nice to see some variety

It's a pheasant with a literal rainbow on its feathers... what's so hard to get?

Seeing how there is only one ungulate so far its HIGHLY likely that there will be atleast 1 more, probably even 2 more.
Its rather similar to the markhor, so my bet would be on a yak or something since those are way more visually distinct. I also feel like with the markhor, goat, sheep and takin we got plenty caprines in the last 3 packs so idk.
Would tie in perfectly with the baboon tho

Part of me wants to believe in another coming, simply because of the hole left for South America. Not to mention the financial report was ambiguous to whether they would stop or not. It’s possible porting to console makes them good money.

We will see when the pack is fully announced. Lots of information to sit on in the meantime.

Personally I am holding out for the Wild Yak, they really interest me and if we get the tibetan prayer flags with some scenery like that i could make a nice little himalayan area
