DLC18 discussion and predictions

It's the age old Europe vs North America flamewar. Matschie's tree kangaroos are exclusively kept in North America, and Goodfellow's tree kangaroos are exclusively kept in Europe. Frontier is a British company (meaning Europe) so the zoos nearby to them would have Goodfellow's roos.

In planet zoo history similar battles were fought over ibex vs big horn sheep, Eurasian lynx vs Canadian lynx, fallow deer vs white tailed deer, etc.
Ah. That makes sense, then! FWIW, I wouldn't call it a "flamewar." Haha. At least not as far as my take is concerned... I actually changed my vote from Matschie's to Goodfellow's on the meta wishlist when the updated one was released because I realized the two sub-species were splitting votes and I wanted mine going toward the one that had the better shot at getting in/was higher on the list.

So I'm fine with either, despite having a preference for one.

I'm guessing that the brand new pack has 12 animals, Palla's cat with the 8 dictionary animals.

Exhibit and 2 other habitat animals haven't been shown yet.

If your wondering what the dictionary animals were:
[Name] Dik Dik
[Name] Sifaka
African Spurred Tortoise
Short Beaked Echidna
Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
Hamadrya's Baboon
Secretary Bird
Markhor

I really hope this isn't what we end up with, because this pack is boring and disappointing for me as the final pack, 2 primates but no proper monkeys, only 1 bird, No south American animals even if we were to get a NW monkey and a south American bird it would still not be great

All directions is pointing in this pack becoming true, before this announcement they removed all of these animals from dictionary with Markhor and Hamadrya's Baboon. I guess this is the finale pack, though it does have 2 more slots left so you may be surprised? Its a pretty strong pack with Hamadrya's, Goodfellow's and Secretary anyway.

If Markhor and Hamadrya's wasn't revealed in this teaser, then I would believe the entire dictionary was a lie. But that really isn't the case.

Does anyone have an actual list of which animals were removed from the dictionary compared to ones that weren't? I keep seeing people say certain ones but nothing definitive.
I don't know all of them off the top of my head but these were the ones I think,

Hamadrya's
Markhor
Sifaka
Spurred
Dik-Dik

[If I get these wrong or need any additions correct me]

The ones that were way more popular and in demand by the fans?
Yeah, and in a way Europe got the better attention. All the models are higher quality while NA has a weird wolf, a mini bison, and potato bears.
Europe also has the more, if not all, keystone animals than NA, I believe, as we're still missing the ABB.

Don't get me wrong, I love that Europe got the attention, but I wished that NA got it's last remaining species and that the models were updated. At least grow the bison

Edit: and of course I want more SA rep

I would argue that the American black bear is equivalent to the European brown bear, and although the models for the European animals are better they have only just become available after 4 years whereas you could build a strong North American section in the base game and by the North America pack most important species were covered

Edit: Also building a Europe section relies on substituting animals such as the Grizzly and American Beaver, whereas you can build a very good North American section without substitutions

I know if after 4 years? If winsent, swan and boar is an indicator of a “strong section” for you then yes.... But the Europe DLC was released right after NA
The red fox covers both continents, so I don't count him, I don't know if I've missed a species yet

Yes, but now that point is moot since we got 2 Europe packs and 2 NA packs.

And I'd actually disagree concerning NA rep in base game. I wouldn't even consider the pronghorn a keystone animal. And the other 3 are more associated with the north, like Canada. We still lacked the much more common ABB, we still lacked the iconic alligator, and we still lacked our iconic cat (puma). NA animal pack definitely boosted it, and I'm happy with the state of animals we got from there, but the ABB is a NA zoo staple and the most common and widespread species of bear here; heck, I'd go as far and say they're THE North American bear, more than the grizzly. We literally have a chain called the Black Bear Diner

Honestly I feel like both continents got equally good representation in the end.
Both have a goat/sheep, a cat, a bison, a pig, and of course the overlapping species (foxes, moose, wolverine)... North America ended up getting more small mammals such as Armadillo, Skunk and Raccoon, but Europe got two deer, and unique species like the swan. In a way they kind of complement each other, making both feel distinct but just as fleshed out

Thats the big perk of europe having practically nothing for the first 2 years, all the animals look really good

Thank you for reminding me of the Pronghorn's existence :ROFLMAO: Icompletely forgot it was there... Think I've only used it once as a stand-in for a small deer (white-tailed or perhaps fallow)
