Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Since the permit requirement for ShinDez had been lifted for two weeks in lieu of the Thargoid attack and our fearless AX pilots (and I guess even some that usually don't do AX stuff) took the big broom and swept the Thargoids out in two or three days, I decided to pay Jameson Memorial a visit. And as my first official action, I fumbled my manual approach and got first entangled in something at the back of the station, only to mess things up while recovering and getting stuck above some other landing pad that wasn't designated for me...
Ouch. Welcome to their station.

The new blue lighting scheme may be pretty and cool but in mistier stations it really doesn’t help visibility, maybe having yellow fog lights was a good idea.

The big Rama like spikes at the back of some stations do have another purpose than as a collision hazard you can use them and the lights on their tip to refine your alignment to be sure your on the station axis at a distance.

Interestingly enough, it wasn't those spikes that caught me. I was quite a bit further back, a place I've never been before...
That the purpose of these light poles wasn't for dancing around them with your ship, but as a navigation aid for lining up your ship on approach occurred me quite early. I simply wasn't good at it, back then, and the timer caused me some anxiousness that made me fail most of my attempts to get into the station manually...

I don't know, the ship I was in (a DBX named Ananta Shesha) seems to have a knack for getting entangled. A few days ago, while I was trying to figure out the current BRC race, I got entangled in the structure of a spinning ring (one that has those greenhouse pods on it) I was supposed to fly through...

Good idea to make use of the near unlimited outfitting options while they’re still available! :)
I ordered some of my ships over there to get some equipment that was still missing on them - and a few of those new FSD drives - they're really good.
And, while I was there, I also bought me a Python Mk 2 and equipped with what I wanted. It is so convenient to have a station that has it all.
I'm gonna miss that thoroughly when it's over...
I’ve been uploading our footage from the great ’goid invasion of Shinrarta Dezhra last week - here are a few selected YT clips, which link through to the full recorded reels for anyone interested in seeing more of the battle for Jameson Memorial:

That really was a battle and a half...

Stock up on SCO's, they're worth it - and yep, the real joy of Jameson Memorial is being able to get almost anything in one stop ;)

It was quite something - a "level-BSG" space battle! ^^

...as the "AX-newbie" in our squad i was just the onboard camera, while CMDR X was flying the ship/battling the Hydrae along with more AX pilots there - frees my hands up to get in closer on the action & interceptors themselves with external camera :)

I'll do, no worries.
But to unleash their full potential, I'll have to do some mat collecting next.

Hey, someone has to swing that camera around to document what was going on...
It'a an honourable job in itself - after all, you take the same risks as the ones fighting, without being able to shoot back.

Hi All :)

I'm back again from some out of bubble mining (no bio's this time round), just selling some stuff at suitable Stations / prices at the moment. I'll probably stick around near or in the bubble for this month and next as it's about time I sorted out my stored modules and ships. I'll definitely be buying a Mandalay or two whilst I'm here next month, might get a T8 just to add to my collection of ships as well.
Plus I want to be around (close by) if there's any progress on the new feature, not that I'm expecting any of the new feature stuff to be introduced into the game as such yet (or next month)....but you never know ;)

Hi :)

I'm a bit out of the loop as regards the SCO drives, I bought about three last month of varying sizes. I fitted one in a Python MK 2 that I bought for credits but I haven't engineered any of them at the moment, I've very briefly tried out the one in the Python, is there any real advantages in engineering them?...and I suppose / presume you'd go to someone like Palin, Felicity Farseer or Bris Dekker to do that as we do with previous frame shift drives and thrusters?

Jack :)

There are the same available engineering advantages as with earlier generations of FSD’s as far as i know - my own experience has been with engineering for greater jump range specifically and has yielded even slightly better results with the new SCO FSD’s, which i’ve heard confirmed by others :)

We get to hear about it on the October 30th but I doubt we get it in game for at least a month after that, if only to let everyone settle down after their favourite dream is not mentioned.

Apart from the SCO itself and minor performance differences in other aspects of their use they are just like the standard FSD and can be engineered in the same ways by the same engineers.
Of course you can’t do the dodgy combat build trick of fitting the smallest/lightest FSD because you don’t intend to fly it to the fight as you can’t fit an undersized SCO unit.

Speaking of which... It is all great that I'm now able to find 200+* units of G5 manufactured mats in one HGE...
But where do I get the equivalent in encoded mats, which I always have been struggling to get hold of the most?

*: Which is really great, given that I can only collect 100 of them...

I get grade 5 mats doing combat missions, you can rank-up at the same time. I just got 16 encoded emissions plus 22 million credits for killing 62 pirates (one mission). The higher the risk, the greater the reward, I always go for threat level 8 when I can find them. If you stagger them, one mission, one group of pirates, next mission a different group then a third that is the same group as the first (3 missions at the same time), you'll get credit for kills in the first and third missions simultaneously. I'm thinking it's a bug in the game, the missions need to be staggered for it to work.

Well, level 8 combat missions are out of my realm, the "in a system far, far away" kind.
Last time I did something loosely along those lines was back in Matet, hunting single pirates...

To say my combat skills are rusty would be a severe understatement.

Here's a threat level 4 with grade 5 mats, you don't need a hazardous site, any extraction site or compromised nav beacon will work rather than those neon blue mission objective signals you spot from shipping lanes.

I think I'll have to slowly work myself into this, try out which of my ships suits me best for the task...
After all, I'm more or less a n00b, regarding combat (of any kind)...

Looking at my carrier funds, it appears I won't have to plough more money into the balance for 66.66 weeks (approx). Which is quite nice.

Anyway, I'm feeling the pull of the near black again. Time to stock up on tritium!
Time to start salad hunting again with such a low balance on your carrier.

I was thinking about heading out again but will probably wait till the new year, for the fun and the Codex the balance should be fine as it is.

Hold on. I think I'm miscalculating. What is your carrier balance? If you don't mind me asking...

Mine is just south of 1bn.
