DLC18 discussion and predictions

What about ethiopian wolf as a member of this "mountain" animal pack? I think that is really interesting a new canid in PZ and it's really a mountainous animal, more than animals like Hamadryas baboon (Gelada was better for this theme too)

  1. Pallas' Cat
  2. Hamadyas Baboon
  3. Markhor
  4. Spectacled Bear
  5. Ethiopian Wolf
  6. Wild Yak
  7. Alpine Marmot
  8. Giant Chinese Salamander
Not really an animal i have any interest in getting it in the game.
In general im really not glamouring for any more canines tbh, especially not one that is not in zoos and doesnt really have anything to warrant its inclusion imo

Announcement might happen in a hour, and the only way i can contribute is with a low effort meme:

If we get Ethiopian wolves over tree kangaroos I'll probably riot! Also, I'd personally go with the domestic yak, but I know some people want the wild one. A roster like this is what I'm kind of expecting tbh.

Hoping for news today, but with the way they were talking during the stream, I'm kind of leaning towards Friday at the earliest.

I'm not expecting any news this week. As they said "a couple of weeks" during the unlocked livestream, I think the teaser will come at the beginning of next week and the DLC could be out on October 15th. I would gladly welcome any news this week though.

Despite being a New Englander at heart, if you want good chain donuts Krispy Kreme is better
Dunkin' Is alright for me. But here they've always been dry and flavorless. Maybe it's a region thing. Krispy was much much better. And of course,.in Houston, we have our local chain: Shipley's. As of right now, nothing has beat Shipley's, and no, it's not a bias thing. If Shipley's came from New York and California with the same flavor and and everything, I'd still go there
This is the third time I've been tagged for wanting the Scottish wildcat, I'm getting the feeling it's an unpopular choice here lol
"Have you heard about the Scottish wildcat?"
"Yeah, can't believe that @Captain Callum wants it, the nerve of that guy"
😂
You know who I always admire for this? @DarthQuell. Quell routinely posts about his beloved grey fox, a species which has never quite picked up a huge amount of traction within the community, but Quell also routinely uses the word "want". Everyone needs to be more like Quell, I think. DarthQuell wants the grey fox. The game doesn't need the grey fox.
Appreciate that, man.
I'll get that fox one day, if its the last thing I do. And if not, my zoos will have a glaring gray fox-shaped hole as well as a gray fox-shaped hole in my heart
The issue with bears is the specific subspecies chosen in the HBB if it was just brown bear no one would be complaining. All bear species have decent captive representation they should all be in game
And the Formosan. Don't forget that weird choice. Should've been Asian black bear to begin with, especially since the literal difference between the Formosan and Asian is the name and that the Formosan is only in Taiwan while the Asian black bear is everywhere else

Are Asiatic black bears being phased out of European and Oceanian zoos like they are in NA, or are they still common?
Okay but let's be real Canada is a little bit part of the USA
They are, but they are just in denial. Maybe not Quebec though. But I don't think they want to even be part of Canada.

Back when the Australian colonies unified, it was just assumed New Zealand would join, so there's the option in the constitution for them to join pretty easily if things ever go terribly enough (realistically it's going to be the Australians in trouble before the New Zealanders, being dependant on a state that's been thinking about leaving for decades, among other red flags).

Papua New Guinea was a colony of Australia till 1975. It was also connected by land during the last glacial maximum, so a decent amount in common with them fauna wise.

The last land connection between New Zealand and Australia was in the Cretaceous, also being connected to Antarctica. Zealandia includes New Zealand, New Caledonia and Norfolk island, so they have a bit more in common with each other than other places. Zealandia also sunk about 25 million years ago, it's thought to have shrunk to the size of New Caledonia today.

The whole idea of Oceania being a continent isn't really true, it's a whole bunch of places that don't have huge amounts in common, because they're isolated, especially when you get to the fringes like Hawaii and Rapa Nui, having more species in common with the Americas. Fiji also has Iguanas, which rafted over from the Americas, whereas Hawaii has Australia type Acacias, so it's a bit messy.

Well, I actually learned at school that Australia is both the continent and the country.
Likewise. I don’t believe I ever once heard the term Oceania in a classroom throughout high school, while taking honors/AP classes. Similarly we were taught that North America was literally just Canada, USA, Mexico, and all of Central America was in South America. A lot of non-Americans have trouble believing this, but that’s southern US education for you, I guess. Or at least it was 15+ years ago.
