Newcomer / Intro New Player Needs Information

The thing with Inara is that it's updated by players, so you need to pay attention to the RH column. If it's been updated in the last day or 2, that should be sufficiently up-to-date to rely on. The place at the top of the list, 18.11ly away, was updated less than an hour ago as I write this; so flying to Vinge Ring in Bakaduninka seems to be as good an option as any other.

To save typing, click on the little Copy icon to the right of the system name, and then you can paste it straight into the search box at the top of the Galaxy map. It should move to put the destination system in the middle of the screen, and if you click and hold, it'll plot a route based on your current ship's jump range, whatever star types you've selected if you did change as I suggested in a previous post (you don't need to do that if you're not bothering with a fuel scoop) and whether you're using fastest or economical mode as others have suggested.

The stock Sidewinder you want to use has a jump range of 7.8ly, and a fuel range of 28.7ly. This should be easily enough to do the 3 jumps or so it'll take in fastest mode, without needing to scoop fuel or refuel at a station.

And finally, you seem to be suffering a little from "paralysis by analysis". The absolute worst that can happen right now is you get blown up somehow, and redeploy back in the last station you docked at, minus the 1600 credits rebuy for a stock Sidewinder. So you try again. Once you've bought your dream Cobra, then you do need to make sure you always have the cost of the rebuy available (it'll be 360,000 credits or so), but right now you've got a freedom to just go for it that doesn't come again. Climb into your Sidey, enjoy the trip to Vinge Ring, and then enjoy buying and equipping the Cobra!

Good luck!

Another question. When I start outfitting my new Cobra MKIII I'd want a SRV. Does the Planetary Vehicle Hanger module come with a SRV.
Thanks CMDRs.

... since you can choose between the (exploration) SRV Scarab and the (combat) Scarab Scorpion. Those roles aren't set in stone, though - you can use either for either role.

But the Scorpion lacks the wave scanner of the Scarab which makes locating ‘mineable’ surface features a case of getting close enough for them to show on radar so just luck.

I'm using Coriolis to setup how my Cobra MKIII will be equipped and cost. but I can't see anything about a SRV.

Coriolis you just fit the Planetary Vehicle Hangar into an optional slot. The contents of the hangar are presumed to be included (i.e. the mass). To be honest, I have always found the different masses of the G or H hangar version to be daft.

A question I meant to ask about a Salvage mission. I've already done a couple so far, but the last one I just made it through by the skin of my teeth.
If i were to be killed what happens to me, my ship, and where do I start from again. ?

If your ship gets destroyed with you in it, you'll see the rebuy screen. Read it carefully, more than one CMDR has lost their ship at this point. The rebuy screen lets you choose between rebuying your currrent ship, with the full loadout and all engineering, at 5% of the original cost. If you can't afford that, you can remove modules from the selection until you can. If that doesn't work out, you can opt for the free starter Sidewinder - and that last option sometimes gets people confused in a hurry, selecting the free Sidey and in this way losing your ship.
Should that ever happen to you, don't panic. Log out, then contact support. They have been known to restore your ship and posessions - you usually get one free shot.
Any unclaimed bounties, combat vouchers, exploration data,... are lost.
Cargo is lost, as are passengers.
Collected materials (raw, manufactured, data, alien) you keep.
Missions stay active (not really consoling if you've just lost a few MCr. worth of irreplaceable mission cargo...). And btw. - those salvage missions keep on respawning the POIs until you have collected the full set of whatever you were supposed to bring in. So no need to stick around and slug it out with those pirates - just run to supercruise and look for the next POI.
Now it depends on whether you had any fines or bounties on your head or not, and how you died.
No fines or bounties: you respawn in the nearest suitable base/station in the system you were in. If no such station is available, you respawn at your last docked port.
Fines or bounties present, but you died without any outside influence (e.g. rammed a planet, stuff likel that): same as above.
Fines or bounties present, and you were killed by someone (including NPC) who could conceivably have claimed your bounty: you respawn in the "nearest" detention facility, the fines/bounties are added to your rebuy cost. "Nearest" could be a few thousand light years, if (for example) you're using the Colonia Prison Taxi. But even if it's only a few hundred ly, that could be bad news if you're in a jump-deficient combat ship and were just killed with a minor bounty for scratching someone else's hull in a RES...

I'm talking about a boots on the ground Salvage mission. What is the outcome be if I get killed trying to get something from a crash site.

What is the best All-Round Ship to do all or most activities ?
ie. Missions, fighting, mining, trading, traveling etc.

That's a matter of preference. It's better to have a fleet of specialized ships, rather than one ship for everything. "One for all" excels at none.

How many ships am I allowed ?
As many as you can afford - I don't think there's a limit you are likely to encounter.

Regarding that "best all-round ship" - there is none. Even the big multirole ships need to compromise if you want to equip them to support more than one role simultaneously. So, you'll need a big ship in order to put all the modules in - but those tend to be somewhat clumsy (as in "if you had wanted to make that turn, you should have started last week") and are restricted to bases/stations with large pads. So, in the end, the best multi-role ship is a fleet carrier carrying your fleet of specialized ships.

Up to forty at any one station or fleet carrier there is a total limit as well but I can never remember what it is.

The important thing is that you like flying the ship when doing those activities, but either have different ships for the different activities or refit the one when you change activities.
