Newcomer / Intro New Player Needs Information

How do you upgrade suits and weapons ?
There are whole new batch of engineers for the on foot gear.

Personally I haven’t bothered as unlike almost all ship modules you can buy them from the Pioneer Stores engineered to G3, you just have to see what they have available that week but stock is limited.

.... you can buy them from the Pioneer Stores engineered to G3, you just have to see what they have available that week but stock is limited.

^^^^^^ wot @aRJay said ^^^^^^

Stock in the Pioneer Supplies shops is replenished every Thursday morning so keep a look out then. There is of course our wonderful player-base who post on here to alert people to some of the better finds, so keep an eye on the following thread every week:

The cost also depends on how many mods an item has.

Very, very rarely, you will find a suit at grade 3 with two engineering slots filled. These cost about 18 million credits.

I think - irrc, not at PC atm - I just have seven suits. And twenty four guns.

Everything is G5 and fully modded..

It took... a little while to do :D. No skill required, just the willingness to grrrrriiiiiinnnndddd. I haven't built a new piece of personal equipment for a while now, but I imagine it's a little easier now with the mission rewards materials increase. L

There must be an upper limit but I'm not sure what it is or even whether one would ever need to reach the maximum

Could you be more specific (or point me in the right direction) about how I need grind and what I need to collect to build personal equipment and weapons ?
From what I understand I would still need to unlock Engineers. Is this correct ? If so how do I go about that ?
I know I'm an old pilot but I'm new to all this and need quite a lot of guidance.

You can find information on the unlock requirements here.

Domino Green, for example, is unlocked by you travelling more than 100ly in total in Apex taxis. Green will introduce you to Kit Fowler if you give her 5 units of Push. You unlock Fowler by selling 5 opinion polls to bartenders.

You can find a list of all the suit and weapon modifications (including the materials you need) here.

The best way to go about suit and weapon mods is to decide what mods you want, look at which engineers offer the mods, then work on the unlock requirements for each. There are two sets - what you need unlock the engineer, and what you need to get an introduction.

Once you've got the engineers unlocked, you can start working on the suit and weapon mods.

In addition, upgrading the suit or weapon can be done at Pioneer Supplies. Adding modifications is done at the engineer.

How many mods can be applied to suit or weapon depends on its grade. A piece at grade 5, for example, can take four mods as it is at the maximum level.

It should be noted that skilled players don't necessarily need to upgrade. They git gud already :D

Imho, if you do want to max it out, your ground combat loadout would be the first to do it with. But... each to their own.

On top of unlocking the engineer, you will also need materials and this is the bit that needs a grind - which is less of a slog now.

Materials - assets, goods, data - are given as mission rewards but can also be found in settlements and crashes/wreckages.

Some materials are harder to come by than others. But don't forget that other players may have them for sale on their carrier.

Do work out what you actually want modifications wise before you do it as unlike ship modules you can’t remove or replace them but have to start over with a new suit or weapon.

You say that you can upgrade suits and weapons at Pioneer Supplies, but how is this done ?
Do I need something to be able to do the upgrades ?

I would recommend installing the EDOMH app, from: https://github.com/jixxed/ed-odyssey-materials-helper/releases
It will let you create desired layouts and then create shopping lists showing what mats are needed. You can also use it to find out more about the engineers.

It depends on what you want to upgrade, for instance a maverick suit from G3 to G4. For another suite or weapon you'll need some other mats.

How is by talking to the person behind the counter who has options to buy and sell stuff and to upgrade stuff if you have the right bits and pieces.
Exactly what bits and pieces and how the interaction works to do the upgrade I don’t know as so far I have never needed to do it.

The storekeeper shows the cost in materials of the next grade up when you choose your relevant weapon. You can then choose to commit to it and spend the materials to gain the new grade, or not. It does show you the changes you will get (range increase, damage increase, or whatever) before you commit.

I have installed the EDOMH app but I've installed it in the wrong place.
Could you tell me how to uninstall it so I can re-install it to the place I want ?

Using the windows uninstaller? I'm on win10 and went to settings->apps and typed in "mat" to locate it. You won't find it as EDOMH, but rather as the whole name spelled out.
