Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

3K pages and 3m views? By Christmas might be pushing it though!

EDIT :D And, as if by magic, this is post 42K. I must be Golgafrinchen. Or, more probably, a bugblatter beast.
Excellent timing! :D

…and here is a completely gratuitous image of the Ravenous Beast of Traal :geek:

Discovered that the suit engineering unlocks seem to have changed since last I looked 😮 Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/qxfk63/a_visual_guide_to_unlocking_all_odyssey_pilot/

Those 10x on-foot CGs have always been a wall for me, but apparently the wall was torn down a while back and I never noticed! New things to explore 😸

Aside from that, finished engineering the bolts off my Clipper and moved on to the Mandalay. I'm up to 74.01ly jump range. I'm aware this ship can do 80, but quite honestly, I like being able to support 5A drag drives and near-permanent boost. When I'm doing exobio, a lot of time is spent buzzing around planetary surfaces, and I don't feel like stretching the extra jump range is as important as good handling and a short stopping distance. I'm also happy to keep a backup SRV on hand.

I have found it hard to use an undersized powerplant in the Mandalay; I have settled for turning off the AFMU during regular flight, otherwise a 4A overcharged is on an absolute razor edge of adequate.

Also I never knew you could talk directly to the engineers!

I think tomorrow is time to go pledge... then either investigate the alternative routes to suit engineering, or just do some mining or something mundane. I'm not quite hearing the call of the deep black right now.

Where did you read that? I can't find any hint on that in your link.

You have me worried I've misinterpreted it now 😹

The way I'm reading the map is that there's 6 starting engineers: 3 in the bubble, 3 in Colonia. Domino Green seems to just need us to travel 100ly in Apex shuttles, and offers reduced energy usage and a referral chain that ends with jump assist. Jude Navarro wants restore and reactivation missions, and can refer us to Terra Velasquez, who wants heist and theft missions for increase air and sprint.

They seem better to me than CZs, but then, perhaps they will prove to be even more annoying 😅

Meanwhile Baltanos out in Colonia only needs you to have decent rep with the Colonia Council for jump, air, and sprint. If it's that easy, I will consider looking for an FCOC ride to Colonia in the near future!

I will catch some taxis and see what happens. If it gets an invite to Domino Green, that kind of tells us everything 😸

Well, that worked!

I was going to just go buy the 5x Push at a nearby fleet carrier so she'd immediately recommend me onwards... but unfortunately I am doing this at exactly the weekend when there is an open bug with FC bartenders not working.

Well, that kind of took the wind out of my sales. I guess I can go look for some low threat missions or PoIs, but I am terrible at FPS combat in all games and my point was to not have to get involved with any of it. Still, maybe I can get lucky and find something guarded by like a skimmer or something; I've managed vehicle combat before.

At least it was a cool view... didn't know carriers could park in such low orbit.

But at least I have a plan for when the bug is fixed. Prior to yesterday, I didn't think there was anything I could do with suit engineering without doing CZs, so while it's been a bit of a wasted hour, there's also a new option for the future. Could be worse news 😸

It is Hero Ferrari (the one between Domino and Jude) that has the 10 CZ wall in front of their shop...
Thus everything is as it was, as far as I know. Domino is the only on-foot engineer I unlocked so far. It is easy enough, after all.

Push is easy to get, you can scan planets to find Irregular Markers (in systems where at least some anarchy factions are present i assume is better, but idk for sure), there will be often a couple of containers there, cut doors, loot chests, lots of those hushes and pushes are there. Or, a possibly illegal mission that asks you to get smth from a hidden cache (wording might be a bit different) will usually lead you to such Irregular Markers signal.

Scavs may very well come, but just bring SRV and run away in case it gets too hot. Push is also kind of useless to sell from carrier due to its commonness, checked that back in times when i was deciding what do i keep and what to vendor, noone basically buys it, ppl just put it on sale in hopes that at some point maybe someone comes, but that's way too long and it's way too cheap.

Those restore/reactivation missions, do they come with any combat?

Yeah, 50/50. Some are quiet, but you never know in advance, as scavs may come while you're tinkering inside the PWR building and they won't message you about this. So a worst surprise you can get is a couple of them shooting at you in the doorway, which is bad, but you can just run, no need to fight them.

Dismiss ship, remember where you park SRV and either run either fight in SRV. Also helps to reach the ship faster. And bring dumbfires, sometimes scavs are already there.
