Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 Update

that would be better than what it is now. personally I think about 8000 merits/hr average would be about right. that would 100 hours to max out.
im okk with that ratio, a bit fast in my opinion (elite dangerous isnt the classic game you play for 1000 hours), you can surely reach more than 5000h if you like the game like me and many many other cmdrs out there. i personally play from day one with some stop and go douring the journey.

Anyway, 8000 merit\hour CAN be a good ammount but you have to grind as hell all the 60 minutes of game to reach it and not just delivering rares in loop sitted in private group, thats not a cg with a personal reward but is powerplay, a community gameplay things, its the endgame content for player who have do all the kind of stuff i dont see nothing bad if a new player need more than 100 hours to unlock some powerplay based weapon. you can deal the game without having it! it is like the final raid equip like in any other mmo, you have to play waaaaaay moooore than 100 hours in regular online game to reach the endgame gear. (and no one have problems about that in other games)

Once again folks are blaming Fdev for PP2s failure, the blame lays with a large number of cheats who found a way to exploit the system.
The only thing Fdev did wrong was not to shut the whole thing down when folks were hitting 100 in a matter of hours.
Lets not look at this with rose tinted goggles, exploiting was rife in PP1 as well.

Disabling settlement data delivery was necessary due to the exploit.

Disabling rares and escape pods is completely overkill and has now condemned non-combat powers to do 1-ton trading if they want to even try defending anything now. Especially strongholds with carriers facing >20k/hour undermining since this change has not addressed the Elite Fighter farming.

Changing things like this near the end of a cycle is very bad for competitive purposes - now top 10's are set in stone.

Why didn't they make the same restriction as for ARXs ?

I just wonder when do we be able to earn merit by sell rare commodity again. Should anyone notice that this activity are enable again, please notify me, so I can sell 10,000 tonne away. Thank you.

Yes. Set a goal, achieve it as fast as possible. Set a new goal, do the same. That is how some people are wired and if I am being honest how you get ahead in both life and the game. Some people would rather experience more of the game vs languishing over a single aspect. Some people like to race cars, others take leisurely drives through the country side viewing the scenery, to each their own.

Brining it back to PP 2.0. If FDev nurfs the merits gains they force everyone to the leisurely drive model, which is not fun to some. If they buff everything else, then everyone can choose to progress at the rate that suits their play style and personality.
your are assuming people play powerplay ONLY for their ranks.
personally, i see powerplay like a race between various community.
if killing one ship give me 100 merit, i take 100 point, and the enemy should kill one ship too to have 100 point, so the "race" is 100 vs 100, but, if that ship gave me 10 merit, and to my enemy also 10 merit, the race is 10vs10 that is the same of 100 vs 100 or 1000 vs 1000, the only affected thing is our rank.

so people are complaining about the fact they want rank 100 asap or the fact they want a balanced powerplay experience? should they need the weapon or want they power to expand as better one? that make difference.

PP 2.0 isn’t worth the amount of grind. There shouldn’t be exploits but fix those, not turn down the merits more. There should be nothing wrong with 15k-30k merits for a solid few hours play. You need 800k or so merits to get the main unlocks completed. We shouldn’t have to grind for a year to do that. Not worth the effort. Not fun. Let progress move faster and put more on the back end to lengthen play. Did you learn nothing from engineering grinding?

I would have preferred if Frontier had announced they had found these issues, but were going to wait until the end of the Pp tick before they shut down for investigations.

They've basically left trading powers ability to defend strongholds/fortification systems etc. defenceless by removing the one viable option to counter the massive Stronghold Carrier UM'ing taking place - that being rares trading.

As someone who is just trying to get to know powerplay generally and likes the idea of a shifting power structure around the Bubble I'm finding the heavy hand a little off-putting.

I understand balance is required (and, of course, fixing unintended exploits are a necessity) but surely there are better and more nuanced ways than simply stopping some activities from awarding an advantage* to your chosen Power. Particularly if some Powers in particular are affected - Antal and LYR were mentioned above, I'm sure there are others with other activity bonuses also affected - but I'm struggling to keep up.

I can't help but wonder if the calls, prior to PP 2.0 releasing, for modules to be separated from power play may have helped to provide a shallower entry to the powerplay pool for FDev to then balance out merit rewards for the various activities. As it stands, from a newcomers viewpoint, it seems two different groups of players are playing two different games but using the same toys and in the same sandpit....and its chaotic.

* I know the currency is Merits but that term alone doesn't seem to differentiate between working for your Power or working towards a module.

FDev set the limits of that system. FDev failed to test it properly. The initial "exploits" were not deliberate by the players.

I don't think people can hit 100 ranks in a matter of hours. I'm at 80 and I have been grinding only for the rank for 2 week, selling rare commodity. We didn't cheat.

Because ARX aint part of a competitive system, its a reward for playing.

While not considered an RPG, I liked the approach of Elite's ranks. You could haul tons of food but would only be the best Merchant you could be the best Warrior without fighting.

While you're looking to adjust merit earnings by rares, data delivery, and escape pods, could you also take a similar approach to merits earned at stronghold carriers blowing up the numerous SLF fighters that get launched when you start UMing it? As things stand, each SLF is worth a whopping 78 merits per kill, meaning someone armed with all seekers or pack hounds can make thousands of merits in the span of 10 minutes, and totally mess up a power's hold on a system quickly.

Here's a video by the Multiverse Trade Union illustrating the unbalanced nature of SLF merit farming:

Thanks!
The activity you're asking to be nerfed is one of the most fun and engaging I've done in a while. I failed miserably the first 3 times I tried it but then I started to get the hang of it and I'm really thankful to the cmdr that published the video. And here you come and ask for it to be nerfed, because, why not, it's "Nerf week". It's not an exploit, it requires some skill in FA off (which I never had but I'm managing) and the visuals (and explosions) are great. The whole experience is great. But, yes, let's nerf this, too, why should this game be fun?
