Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 Update

Well, I am a module shopper first, but since I need rank 97 anyway to access them all, I have of course chosen a power with the most useful bonus to me.

I gave them good will, was eager to see what this PP2.0 will bring, ready to go into it and make it the focus of my Elite experience.
In a way, to honor their effort in making 2.0 with my time committed to their vision.

As it is now, I'm one Thursday patch away from unpledging and forgetting all about it.

Because it looks like their idea is years of 1-Merit-per-action grind. No thank you very much, never again.

Frontier did not originally define a limit on exploration data. They scolded then added a restriction. Disagree. This is not a player fault.

How? They are gated at 10 minute intervals. Commanders spending an entire week, endlessly trading rares, is not an exploit. It wasn't before 2.0, and isn't after.

Reducing their merit output would not stop people doing what is otherwise normal trading. It would just extend how long it goes on for.

Removing merits will just have players move on to the next available option. Or just leave elite. Again.

Frontier putting modules at the end of a long grind. That is the cause. Everything else is just a symptom or result.

100% correct. That is the only issue that required resolving. Everything else is a balance concern.
No, they didn't, but they should have.

An no. Zero risk activity payout out better than everything else to extremes is bull and shouldn't have been allowed to go on for as long as it did.

1-Merit-per-action grind
Nothing wrong with the idea of 1-merit-per-action as long as the rank merit requirements areset at reasonable levels.

Work out how many minutes it takes to earn x value/profit doing task y. Award 1 credit per minute. Adjust rank requirements based on z hours of play a week to get to Rank 100 after xyz weeks.

PLOT TWIST: All the people who keep whining that Power Play should be open only, aren't actually in open defending anything anyway - I've been attacking Stronghold carriers in open all night and haven't seen a single other player. You know where I was seeing loads of other players in open? Going in and out of the Soontil Relic station, at least until Frontier took that offline.

Did you see that I'd repeatedly changed the stations holoflags to Grom! I got busted for that and had to wait for ages for my rep with the local faction to clime back up again! My greatest fear is that none saw it, all reverberating cascade beatings were for nothing!!! :D

Surely you don't mean to say they were looking for an easy kill vs a fair fight. :ROFLMAO:

It's a spurious argument at the best of times. When it's 4am in the UK and everyone (most) are asleep, players in Australia are free to do as they please as there is nobody there to defend.

That said, I think that there needs to be some penalty to control scores for merits obtained in non-open play, but merit values themselves should not be affected.

In my time in ED i looked at PP and thought that'snot for me then they dump pp 2.0 & i looked at it and thoughtmost things get you merits not just delivering PP media stuff
soI'll give it a go and mostly in open not been attacked byanyone even rho i fly a unshielded asp hauling 96t of rears
nowwith all the farming & The surf Multi Cannon been over usedI'm thinking of just dumping my power & going back to justenjoying running cargo in private /solo and splitting my game timewith other games where i still have goals

just my thoughts onfixing things

PP data at Settlements CMDR x can only get data from settlement x once per hour of Gameplay
Rears must travel atleast X light years in the cargo hold of ship selling it
Fleet ships can only accept 100 units of any rears

The only way to win the game is not to play.

Will apply this to PP2.0 - reading through the various posts in this thread and elsewhere, while I haven't even invested all that much time and effort into it (level 4 or 5, whatever is about 12k merits, since it launched, in part due to getting distracted with other stuff), it seems that the grind to get the module I'm somewhat interested in, The Concord Cannon - which is bugged also, because of course it is - is behind a grind that will just burn me out, and playing at my own pace which would take months if not years (!) just to unlock a single module is not as aspirational a goal as Frontier may think it is.

Going to unpledge and just ignore the new content as if it was never added (unfortunately can't do this with the bugs it came with).

Options for balance that make sense to me.
- Increase level requirements (like a general increase every 5 levels or so by like 500 - 1000 per level)
  • Require missions to gain level (or every 5 levels)
  • merit gain greater then merits for next level is diminished. like 1 level worth is 100%, 2nd level is 98%, 3rd level is 95%, 4th level is 90%, 5th level is 80% etc. UNTIL next tick then reset.
  • reset missions daily, have these give higher rewards and lower rewards from "general tasks" to be balanced with each other. While still being able to "farm" with skill. (not lobby switching)
  • higher risk = higher reward. allow more smuggling style missions, hacking missions, and combat missions. (be the x ship, defend the x ship or kill the x ship.)
your solution to people being put off by the obscene grind and resporting to exploits just to get it over and done with is to make the grind worse?
