DLC 19 Speculation

Well, people who are on the autism spectrum might take it literally or at face-value. Or people who only read the transcript and didn't watch the stream. Or people for whom English is not their first language and their level isn't high enough to catch nuance yet. Or kids, or much younger adults who didn't pick up on the tone. Or any combination of these, which I think we can be sure are part of this community. There are a few reasons that smart, reasonable people might have interpreted the teaser differently, no need to call them "weird".

But yeah, we're getting another DLC 🥳

How's likely would this dlc be

Planet zoo Temperate Animal Pack

1. American black bear
2. Rosevelt elk
3. Coyote / Raccoon dog
4. European Hedgehog / Echidna
5. European Rabbit
6. Pine Marten / Otter
7. Mallard duck

Tundra overlaps with Arctic
Taiga (Alpine) most requested animals for this biome are already added
That only leaves Temperate as the last in-game biome without a Dlc
Depends on which way you look at it.
There are 5 packs exclusively or predominatly focusing on temperate animals (NA, Europe, Twilight, Oceania and Eurasia, and Barnyard in a way also i guess).
But if you look for something specificly called Temperate Pack, then no we dont have that. But that could also be said for the tundra, taiga and desert biomes in game.

All that being said i dont think a temperate pack is entirely impossible as there are still a few fitting animals for that theme that people want, the mandarin duck, golden pheasant, black bear and muntjac being the most requested for this. And you probably could pretty easily make a nice pack with these, having a mix of east asian and north american with 1 or 2 for europe and oceania thrown in for good measure.
But the likelyhood imo depends pretty heavily on how many further packs there gonna be.
If there are 1 or 2 more, then id really, really surprised if its anything related to the temperate biome.

The Temperate Animal Pack:
  • Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey
  • Western Capercaillie
  • Reeve's Muntjac
  • North American River Otter
  • American Black Bear
  • Eastern Wild Turkey
  • European Rabbit
North American Native Scenery Pieces

We need a good North American scenery set so I’d be all down for this. The new world in base game just doesn’t cut it for me. Latin America can also use a non temple theme as well, but that’s unrelated. I would just swap one of the birds out for a duck. Mandarin Duck probably

Isn't Mara more of a grassland's animal, I don't believe it unless I'm wrong.
Well, this is what Wikipedia says...

"They prefer to live in habitats with shrub cover, but they also inhabit overgrazed and barren soils in the Monte Desert biome. In northwestern Argentina, they primarily inhabit lowland habitats such as forest and creosote bush or larrea. Maras prefer sandy and low shrub habitat in Valdes Peninsula."

So... maybe?

I don't see the Chinese Alligator being all that popular/desired/liked... what about something South American? Does the Mara work?
I think alot of southern south america is classified as temperate so if you really wanted to you probably could include the mara, and probably also rhea and guanaco.
Although i think the most obvious temperate animal from SA would be the pudu, but that one would encroach pretty heavily on the muntjas territory

I'd prefer Muntjac for Red Panda Enrichment!!!

Speaking of unpopular, I don't think anyone really wants the Llama's wild cousin... two South American camelids is enough, thank you. And personally, I'd much prefer the Muntjac...

Yes. Like... Most of those animals range are really just temperate climate basically. Specially for the ones you mentioned but also the howler monkey for instance (yes they live in rainforests but also in warm temperate woodlands and wetlands). Temperate is not really biome isn't it? More like a climate term right? I'm not 100% sure about this lol Point is a temperate pack could include animals from different biomes (forests like the american black bear and the mallard, grasslands like the rhea, shrublands like the mara and echidna, and so on...)

I dont really need it either, just brought it up as an example
And i mean frontier is no stranger to adding animals to packs that noone really asked for

Yeah, there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what "Temperate" means here... some seem to think it means the Temperate Zone, making it similar to the Tropical pack... others however seem to be thinking Temperate Woodland, as in deciduous forest, and more like the Grassland pack.

Fom time to time I bring back my idea of an oviparous pack, but I just update it to replace the animals we've got in the new DLCs.

Oh I would love Guanaco.

I mean I understand from many perspectives why it's unpopular, mostly from niche over-representation(both Artiodactyla and Camelids), but since I don't categorize my wishes that way, Guanaco is still pretty high.

I mean, speaking of SA, so is Tapir
