DLC 19 Speculation

I know we all want some NWM’s, (I hope we get atleast two before the games done) but man it would suck if we don’t get a tropical African monkey like a colobus or a leaf monkey from Asia even the GSNM would be cool for a temperate pick from asia
Yeah same. Thats kinda the thing, monkeys got neglected for way to long, so now there really isnt a way to get them to a nice representation by reasonable means. Which for something as species rich and ubiquitous in zoos as monkeys is just hella sad

It would have been amazing if Frontier treated primates like felines. Imagine what we could have in the game now...

For nice representation of monkeys we are really missing a lot:
  • a large New World monkey (spider monkey)
  • a few more medium/smaller sized NWM (e.g. black howler monkey, white faced saki and squirrel monkey)
  • different tamarins and marmosets (e.g. golden lion tamarin, common marmoset and emperor tamarin)
  • a more common langur (hanuman langur or Javan lutung)
  • another macaque (e.g. Sulawesi crested macaque)
  • a medium sized African savannah monkey (e.g. patas monkey)
  • at least one medium sized African forest monkey (e.g. colobus, diana or Hamlyn's monkey)

There's only like, two instances where I can think of an animal I'd swap out in favor of a monkey:
  • Swap out the siamang in the Conservation pack for a gibbon. Then give the gibbon slot to a species of monkey from SA.
  • Swap out the sifaka for another SA monkey from the Zookeeper pack (but even then, I don't mind the sifaka and think it's a solid addition).
But other than that? Any animal they might have swapped out for a monkey would have left a glaring gap that people would be saying we are missing currently. There's an obvious gap in the roster but I don't think it's as egregious as some people are making it out to be. When you look at it holistically, the vast majority of DLC rosters make a lot of logical sense for the broader PZ community.

The structure and frequency of the DLC packs is mostly to blame. Not the rosters themselves. And from an objective "resources available" perspective this was always going to be a problem. It was just a matter as to what animals it would be a problem with.

Ahem what about the obvious ungulate in arid -> Baboon so that we can have another monkey in zookeepers?
Similar id axe all 3 of striped hyena, caracal and blue wilderbeest for a patas monkey in grasslands.
North america is pretty dope but you cant tell me that getting geoffreys spider monkey to represent tropical asia in exchange for the arctic fox would have made anyone upset
I could go on but there are many animals id rather miss then a monkey

I mean, in a theoretical world? Yeah, sure. All of that would make sense. But with Arid, I'm sure there's a reason they went with ungulates rather than a primate (e.g., available resources; maybe saving the Hamadryas for a later pack). For North America... I wouldn't trade any animal in that pack for a spider monkey, TBH. Except for maybe the moose. But that theme was never going to have a monkey in it, anyway, so it's moot.

And in the case of Grasslands, I think if you cut the caracal or striped hyena people would be calling them for now. I'll give you the wildebeest there but again... I feel like the reason they went with that instead of something more unique was to put an ungulate in the pack. If they swapped out the wildebeest it would be for something else with hooves.

I'm not talking about what I'd want but rather, what they might swap out that would feel like a similar/close "trade" within a relatively realistic scenario.

I mean, by now, could they pull packs more geared towards zoo nerds rather than casual audience? So that they don't have to worry about reception of something like "monkey pack", like we would buy that. I hope that you'd be able to sell "Monkey pack" to the same audience that bought "Barnyard pack" at least.

I have no idea what's the number of remaining players and does the number of people who still buy DLCs rise or fall, so I might be completely wrong.

I mean at the end of the day, maybe the lack of monkeys completely stems from difficulty in designing them and nothing with appeal with the players.

I suspect that last bit's the issue. Their movements are much more complex than your average ungulate or carnivore. To me, I feel like the various forum/social media spots have been loud enough about the want for more primates that it's not an issue of appealing to players. I mean sure, "where are birbs" and "cetaceans and sharks" people are more present than those asking for primates, but it's still a solidly popular want.

A primate pack could still sell, and I'm sure many of us would buy it. I can't think of another type of animal family pack that I'd think would be appealing to most though. I'd still most likely get whatever they released, but in terms of the general public maybe not so much

I can only speak for myself when I say I'd buy it without a thought. Even if it lacked something unique like the spider monkey.
  1. Squirrel monkey.
  2. Howler.
  3. Mantled guereza.
  4. De Brazza's monkey.
  5. Barbary macaque/patas monkey.
  6. East Javan langur.
  7. Lion-tailed macaque/Celebes crested macaque/crab-eating macaque.
For "scenery", really a fresh spin on the climbing enrichment would be enough, or just more options for it. I'm still advocating for a rope set specifically for climbing, with 6-16m rope lengths. Maybe a hanging tire swing, or enrichment feeders that hang on climbing equipment or in trees that can be filled like the underwater feeders without direct access. If they wanted to go super fancy, nest boxes that function like burrows (i.e. rabbithole shelters).

That said, such a pack would be perfect for the long-demanded mesh building set.

I would definitely buy a monkey pack and get a lot of use out of it. But man, would it be a disappointing way to end the game given all the other potential species it would leave on the table.

Well no, as a finale pack it would be very weird. But as a penultimate pack, or sandwiched between a LatAm pack and a grand finale pack, it'd be killer.

So they said they have more plans for pz?
I hope for february or march we will get news of dlc 19
If Planet Coaster 2 doesn't take the spot, and given that they're going to focus on free content for PC2 first I think that is a likely scenario, then the most realistic timing is an April release due to Easter. At the earliest you're looking at news begin April.

Not to go back to something that was discussed days ago, but right after the first highlighted point, the write-up is talking about expected revenue pull and the unannounced CMS game for FY27. Is it referring strictly to the projections for that specific new title? Or is it saying the anticipated £100m is what Frontier expects from multiple newer titles in FY27?

Asking because if it’s strictly referring to only the unannounced CMS game, it might offer us a hint into what it will be. Are those numbers similar to what PZ1 brought in initially?

As a whole.
