Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

After having my canopy shot out for the first time in quite a while this afternoon, I've spotted another VR problem - the RemLok helmet overlay (the faint lines of the helmet edges) that should be in your peripheral vision are actually slap bang in the middle of your view.

They're in the wrong eyes!

Instead of looking like an emergency helmet it's more like having weird spectacles on your nose.

If my fellow VR users could please do me a favour - next time you're in space, knock off life support in your modules tab, go cross-eyed trying to look at the RemLok, then head over to Issue Tracker to say you can see the problem too:
:)(y)
I plan to check out the PP merit changes later tonight, I'll try to remember to replicate this.

I cannot recreate this one on my G2. I see very faint lines at the edge of my vision, but so far out it's barely visible. Which helmet are you wearing?

I’m using a Quest 3.

If I remember correctly, the last time I saw something like this the RemLok lines were drawn on both sides of each eye instead of just the outside edges.

Looks fine to me.

Actually I couldn't see the overlay at all, regardless of lighting angle -- is the visor supposed to deploy right away when shutting off life support, also with the canopy intact? (I took the time to wait for oxygen to run out, sitting through some not so little disturbing choking sounds toward the end, to see whether it would zip into place then (ehrm, no :p), and inflicted a few rounds of self-harm, attempting unsuccessfully to break the canopy without blowing up. :p)

Guess I'll try again tomorrow... :7

I did experience horrible performance today, though, with the view tracking glitching very unpleasantly now and again, to boot -- hopefully that will be better after a reboot, and not something brought by the update...

I meant which cosmetic helmet are you using :)
😅 I didn’t think about alternatives!

I’m wearing the Maverick suit at the moment, but I’ll check if I’ve got any cosmetic differences selected.

@jojon - the overlay pops up for me when life support is off, straight away you start hearing the 2001-style breathing and the oxygen counter is running. Canopy can be intact.

Many thanks to both of you for taking the time to check, it’s given me a few more things to try out 👍

Edit: I’ve tried the Maverick, Artemis, and Flight Suit - and the helmet selection doesn’t seem to make a difference, I still get the RemLok lines in the middle of my view. I wonder if this is a headset-dependant field of view thing? The RemLok lines are faint and right at the limit of my nose view so just visible enough to be annoying, and if I press the Quest 3 onto my face I can see them a lot clearer.

Dagnabit! I still can not see it, even in the VR eye views mirrored to a desktop window -- maybe it is just too faint for my old eyes/contrast settings, or drawn outside the FOV of my headset (Valve Index), for some reason...

Hmm, a random thought... This is the VR view, right, and not the 2D monitor view piped to VR through Virtual Desktop?

Definitely the VR view - Quest 3 via Link, stand-alone launcher, and I took the screenshot using the Q3’s in-built camera facility - and the screen shot I posted is very close to what I see in the headset, though I have to push the HMD onto my face to see the whole image. Normally the faint lines are visible right on the limit of my vision towards my nose. It’s just enough to be a stereo vision mismatch and thus an eye-pain 😅

I blame PowerPlay 2.0 for making me do more combat than I have in a long while - I’ve had my canopy shot out three times since the new update (which is a cool effect in VR, so definitely worth it) 😁

On a side note - have the “cracked canopy” graphics got worse than they used to be? I seem to remember them actually looking like cracked glass but now they are like crap low resolution black lines with a shadow behind them.

the crap low resolution I have on floor textures, too, if the main monitor is running on low res. Maybe it's the same connection to some other graphics.

I've just submitted a report for a long-standing minor visual issue in VR - when using the System Map some atmospheric worlds will have atmospheres smaller than they are. This is due to the atmosphere being a one-size-fits-most flat disk that is superimposed over the 3D planet/moon model - you can clearly see this when looking sideways at a planet:

If anyone would like to add a confirmation, it would be greatly appreciated:

New issue report - https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/70349 - where it sounds like the player cannot start Odyssey via the Meta Store version.

As far as I’m aware the Meta version is limited to Legacy Horizons 3.8, so if you own Odyssey (like this player does) you have to access it via the Frontier launcher. I’ve got the stand-alone game so cannot check, so can anyone else confirm this?

Madalay Navigation and Ship panels.

Dont know if this is counted as a bug or just a poor design choice, either way it is uncomfortable for me personally to use the way it currently is.

In the Mandalay the Nav & Ship panels are too small, too low and too close to the pilots face, they need scaling up and moving further away from the pilots seat, they are proportionately wrong given the size of the craft being flown.
Jump into the very tiny and very old Sidewinder and all of these points are perfectly placed and positioned, its like they missed a decimal place out of the scaling and positioning.

Worthy of a bug report?

I'm not sure this is a VR-only issue but I agree. It was the first thing I noticed as a downside. It feels more like an iCourier than a medium sized ship.

Scaling has been an issue with the 3 ships released after the Python Mk II. All three look way too large and too close up when you first load the game in the main menu. When you run the game, the ship that spins in front of you while it's loading is also too large. When the game is loaded, the ships are too large in the HUD display. I was just looking at the Type-8 and how it stretches beyond the shield status rings. IIRC, neither my Cutter or Corvette do that.

The last attempt didn’t get any traction and expired without any confirmations. I was a bit surprised at the small holo panels in the Mandalay - I think they’re a similar size to those in the Eagle - and I haven’t checked the Mamba (whose cockpit the Mandalay’s is based on) to see if it is the same.

They’ve not been uncomfortable for me to use in the Quest 3, and I used that ship a lot recently for Thargoid stuff. However, if you submit an issue report I’ll add my confirmations as it is a problem for some necks 👍

Orbit lines still broken. Even though the bugs been acknowledged. So do they intend to fix it? As well as AA, shadows etc?
Seems to me their not interested in VR repairs

Using a Vive Pro 2.

I just checked again doing a comparison with the Sidewinder.
Sidewinder, if I look left, simply turn my head left and I see a nice large nav panel, if I do the same in the Mandalay and the Mamba (I checked ;)) I see nothing but the ship sides, I have to look down to see the small and close up nav panel :)
Once I have worked out how to take a VR Screenshot i`ll do a bug report.

I use a 4k monitor with the game window set to 640x480, screenshots are always of this game window, is there any software or tricks to take a Vr screenshot?
TIA
