Cobra Mk V

At least for the pmk2 and cmk5, the design philosophy seems to be that pm2 was supposed to be a small big ship, cm5 a small medium ship

-create a size large(pm2)/medium(cm5) ship, smallest in those classes
-give it great agility in the smaller class (medium for pm2, small for cm5)
-undersize the distributor

I remember someone describing in another thread how his Cobra Mk5 accidentally breached a security perimeter because of its dimensions. If I recall correctly, the shooting started shortly after 😬
Confirmed. Just experienced it myself: Requested docking and landed completely normally on an Odyssey surface settlement, and apparently the wings of the Mk5 go outside the landing pad area, making you be "in a trespass zone", and after a few seconds the guards start shooting at you. Even though you are landed completely normally on the landing pad, having gotten permission to do so.

This seems to be a definitive oversight. Might be worth a bug report.

Interesting shot, thanks for posting that. I can see now how it could have settlement landing pad issues if they didn't adjust the hit boxes precisely enough.

I also wonder if their decision to make it small-pad came rather late, and whether they simply just resized the ship by x% to make it just about fit on a small pad.
When I asked on the forum why it was changed to a small pad, many on the forum jumped all over me, it was always for a small pad. And the phrase about medium was just a caveat.

I was immediately convinced that I was wrong :)

Now I'm beginning to wonder if the Mandalay will run into similar problems if we have medium pads for the upcoming colonies.

"But I'm the architect of this facili--BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!" 😄

There are Odyssey surface settlements with medium landing pads, so it's easy to test. I doubt there's a problem there, though.

God forbid I ever get sensible!!!

Those abbreviations are normally on our discord, I will admit, and both ships are mentioned in passing - the 4 new ships are brilliant, so naturally get talked about!
What does stupidity have to do with it? There has to be a unambiguous reading.
What can P2 and C5 be confused with?

It's kind of ironic that, back in the day, ships like the T7 and iClipper ended-up as large-pad ships because of small dimensional oversights and yet now, apparently, FDev just ignore inconveniences like this.

Haven't really been playing much over xmas but, as I already said, I've been spending my time doing "doodad recovery" missions which often seem to require me to deliver my cargo to an Odyssey surface outpost (incidentally, I've been getting these missions from the mission-board and not from sketchy individuals on a station concourse) and one of the intended roles for my CM5 was specifically these missions.
