Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Nothing.
I have played for a few days because there aren't any short term goals much less medium or long term.
For example powerplay actions don't seem to have any effect or are just always wasted.
e.g. posted this https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ol-points-are-needed-for-a-tug-of-war.633135/ , no answer. I'm still clueless and can't find any answers of my own. And that was the last time I connected...
I don't mind working stuff out for myself if its any of intuitive (real life adjacent), rewarding as you go along, or trivial/easy to test, any one of those will do. But the game systems in this game are none of those. . Hours spent doing stuff and none of it has any effect, and I've learned nothing except there is probably nothing to learn. Its really frustrating as the hard work in this game has been done so superbly. But the easy stuff of documenting it is just absent, and so the whole lot goes to waste after only 12 hours of play.
See you again in another 7 years I guess.

What I am up to is wondering how many reputation nerfs I will have now because I planned to have some time this evening and I have not, and I had a load of trucker missions stacked...

By the way - when you are in a system is there any way to find out the text of the bookmark you left there, other than going through the bookmarks screen looking for that system by eye?
Yes. Assuming you are on PC playing the Live version, when you are viewing the system map there is a button at the top left that's called "Local Bookmarks". Click that, and it brings up a filter-bar that you can click on to see any bookmarks you have in that system (ie. Bodies would show all bookmarks you have on bodies in that system).

Here's one I have, for example:

Evening all!

Still wending my way through an unexplored region of space and hit a bit of a jackpot today. M star, 20 bodies, various; one planet and two moons showing bio signals. One of the moons had 7 signals and just finished exploring that one. According to Explo-Buddy, should be worth over cr100m. Tomorrow's task will be the other two targets, one of which is predicted to have my first Stratum Tectonicas.

I'll be pretty rich when I get back to civilization, but I have no idea what I'll do with the money - hauling a fleet carrier around the galaxy holds little appeal for me. I guess it's better to have the money and not need it, than need it and not have it :D

I suppose it really depends on what you want out of the game.

For me, I really enjoy shooting scavs, battling enemy teams in GCZ's and painting my name on systems and bodies. And making "loadsa money" *

For the uninitiated, this is Loadsa Money:

I'm still out in the Sanguineous Rim, finding stuff to call mine :D

EDIT: I seem to be encountering the black screen of death on ship/SRV exit quite a lot lately. Anyone else?

Great Ghu! Doesn’t he look young.

I have encountered the footsteps in the dark lately and a sound go stuttery game freezes crash reporter launches as well but definitely not often enough to think oh! that again more in the that’s not happened for a while category.

Oh, and jump times are taking ages again
That has been variable since the issue started last year, it isn’t even consistent on a per session or per day basis. Some jumps are as fast as they ever where for me some are slightly longer and some take an age, the ones that took an age used to mean a software crash was coming nowadays it just means it is taking a bit longer.

Still so annoying that I end up exiting to main menu and watching a movie instead. When I play a game I expect to play the game, not spend several minutes with a Braben tunnel flashing on the screen every time I want to make a jump.

For some reason, this made me think of this:

Which, actually, has a ring of truth about it when jumping.
I remember being quite excited when this was announced and more than a little disappointed after I watched it especially after they dropped into a space mission.

Another thing I've noticed is at the orange spinning ship/SRV/commander, it takes three times longer (up to one minute) to start the game from the server side.
This is another of the variables for me mostly it takes the usual length of time occaisional it takes about the minute that is the usual time from pressing play to the main menu and once it took so long it failed in an Orange Sidewinder.
