Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi All :)
I am trying to get where I am going by jumping the carrier. However, the jump times, it seems, are still awful.

I think, once I complete this stint of exploration, it may be time to decommission the thing.

I've just this minute booted up the game and moved my Carrier, 1hour 15min. I'm hoping these jump times are going to come down eventually, though that depends I suppose
on how many players are using carriers in (just dragging a figure out of thin air here) 1 months time?
The one and a quarter hour jump time isn't doing the game any favours.

As long as you don’t need the credits it uses for a few years upkeep why not just park it somewhere? You can suspend the services to reduce the bill slightly.

Its existence doesn’t add to the jump timer issues unless you actually move it.

That's what I do out of habit now, when leaving the game and if the carrier is stationery for any length of time in game. I've even got most of the carrier modules switched off in normal gameplay unless I need to use them.
What have I been doing today...I've spent most of the day outside in the garden doing stuff as I've been spending too long in the game!....and was getting bored to be honest.
I'm now going to cook dinner, then maybe do some serious trucking for no more than 2 hours, as I need to get this Coriolis station started and built!
That's why I've just moved my carrier into my claimed system. :D

Jack :)

i just bought a mandalay gas tanked it and took it out for a neutron stretch today
i thought you got more for exploring i can earn 8 mill by a single cyclops kill in about 3 mins in a mk2
not that i need the dosh🤷‍♂️

For my purposes, the Mandalay feels like a compromise between the Cobra MkIV and Krait MkII. About 75% towards the Krait. It has better jump range than the Cobra at nearly 20Ly (currently getting 48Ly on it) but it lacks the firepower, fighter bay, and interdiction capabilities of the Krait. It will definitely be my exploration ship.

The cockpit seat feels quite far back with a very wide display. That's nice.

It has nowhere near the power plant of the Krait though and I still need maybe one or two more experimentals to get it out of the red. Maybe I can use anything left to get the mass down for higher jump range. In the meantime, I can always turn off modules like the AFMU. It's only needed in rare circumstances when out in the middle of nowhere.
yippee ticket seems to be resolved "there are many like it but this one is MIne!"View attachment 419761
i am now wondering whats gonna happen to carrier owner NMN MARINER V8B-7X who claimed the same system after i did?

i would also like one of you guys to confirm who shows up for you as the system architect if you would be so kind?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I wasn't really playing today but I thought I'd park at the Dog House for when I plan my next move. There seemed to be a lot of wanted people around though and one Python interdicted me and gave me a nice 800k bounty.

There seems to be some decent bounty missions at the outpost too so I might rank up with the local factions next time I'm on.

After collecting my rewards for the CG, I'm now back in the billionaires's Club.
Now I'm working on getting the stuff I need to be able to work with Marco.

I hit over £2Bn for the first time so that was nice. Fortunately, outfitting new ships can be slightly less expensive if you've played a while. What with modules ending up in storage and the like. The Mandalay didn't cost too much.

Yeah, I was pelasantly surprised by the pricing for the Mandalay. Of course, now she's worth way more than that.

Hi :)
start with CMM compo's that way it just gets easier........
and build an outpost first of some kind
Ah....that was my little problem....'hesitation''
I couldn't decide whether to abandon my first claim as I stupidly went for a Coriolis. I didn't fancy trying to abandon the claim because at the time I wasn't sure what the procedure was after you abandoned the claim, or what the time limit was to then reclaim the system, and then I would've started with a replacement Orbital Port (An Orbital Outpost).
Seeing reports on the forum of players who did this and then were unable to reclaim the system I have been holding back doing that for obvious reasons.

Anyhoo, I've committed myself to it now by starting to deliver the stuff needed to build this ****** Coriolis station!
I had to do something as my player carrier was totally full up with some of these building commodities. So that's what I'm doing now. I'm transferring CMM's at the moment (6000tons on my carrier to get rid of), next will be some of the other stuff (Steel etc)
Once my carriers emptied (or as good as), I'll jump the carrier to collect some more CMM's and the other materials I need and fill her up again. :)

Yeah, I should've started in the first place with an Outpost, never mind, I've still got just over 2 weeks to complete it, so if I can keep up a fairly steady pace I should do it.
I didn't realise that your station pays you for the goods delivered.

So you need to start building one non-planetary instalation within a week to establish your claim in order to get the full four week grace period in order to finish it?
You have 24 hours to place the beacon.
Then you have 4 weeks to complete the initial station which is I believe at a predetermined location in the system and can be anything from an outpost up to an Ocellus.
After that you can build anything else you wish to and take as long as you want.

Thanks. That seems easier. I'm not sure where the week thing came from but I could've sworn I saw people bring it up.

I've been mostly playing X4 Foundations, because they just revamped the flight model and released a new version. The game keep improving, which is nice indeed.

One thing I really enjoy in X4, that I wish Elite had, is the ability to have your NPC crew do things for you. You can just ride along and let them drive. You can have them haul for you, mine for you, etc. It's really a fun aspect of the game.

Of course it's a very different game environment than Elite, with much more of an "empire building" focus. Still, it would be nice to have some NPC employees who could actually do stuff in Elite :) I mean, my carrier crew can't even move Tritium to the fuel tank. It's kinda sad.

In this shot, I'm sitting at the console while my pilot takes me somewhere or other.

But this is an Elite forum, so I won't dwell on X4 much.

Here's what I've been doing in Elite!

I'm currently exploring the area around my carrier. I've not been trying to jump anywhere else, and I don't need to at the moment anyway. I guess that's a good thing :)

I'd came back this weekend to check on ED and have been trying out the new ships since and to see about trying to colonize a system, and maybe trying out the new powerplay which looks good so far, but I'm also missing the 'power bubbles borders' display of the powerplay mapping. My fleet carrier stands ready, and I'd checked in about twice a year to keep it's maintenance funded. Nice to see the game has reached it's ten year longevity and has started a player agency of colonization feature. It was a preferred direction I had liked ED to go years before the announcement. So this could also have been part of that old leak posted on a forum that mentioned a form of 'base building' back then with spacelegs before Odyssey was announced. Even if just colonizing a mining planet , it's fascinating to think about this old sci-fi idea of colonizing mineral rich planets for raw materials. I feel the game could continue to add more landable atmospheric world details such as lakes and seas, and someday start to have a few more designed cities and landscapes. As posted above, NPC crews and followers would be nice.

I'd always felt back then that ED would continue to gradually fulfill the kickstarter stretch goals suggested in the preconceptual paintings and I'm glad to see faith and patience has stayed true with the current and future development, where it seems it could continue on for another decade while still already setting the bar the highest on an interactive interstellar spacesim.
