Requirements for building a Coriolis starport

I logged on to find I’ve got a Shipyard with Haulers and Sidewinders for sale, a Black Market and Interstellar Faction contact. I haven’t looked at the mission board yet so not sure if that’s up and running yet.

It’s a basic Coriolis with a Colony economy which I can’t wait to change. Rolled the dice on the name and ended up with Turtledove Landing, not sure if I’ll keep it, buy a name or save my ARX for the Asteroid base I’m planning. What to do, what to do?!

Anyhow, it has medium pads so I don't even get to use the cutter for this one, I have to transfer it all in a medium cargo ship
As I understand it, the construction platform has large pads.
Accumulate EDDN data, apparently only planetary construction sites do have large pads:

That information is incorrect. I was originally worried about this after I finished my first outpost. Since then my other 4 builds have all been orbital and I've done them in my T9 at about 2 hours each. I've seen several large pads (4+ ?) as the docking computer flew me in to land. Other's have mentioned all construction sites have large pads in other forum posts too.

As a side note on effort the first and/or bigger builds do cost more but the Tier 1 and Tier 2 installations are quite less in requirements and time to haul. Naturally everybody's situation is different with the location of resources, number of jumps to get there and back, and other factors. Just sharing my experience in my little corner of the bubble as I build things up.

To update: after doing my initial outpost over a weekend, I started on an asteroid station and got 11% done in a day. Not exactly super fast going, but far from impossible. I haven't even bothered moving the carrier for it as I have decent enough source systems a jump or two away.

That's the data I get over EDDN, every docking event sent had this landing pad counts. Have you send your data over EDDN and if yes, which system so I can check the messages I got.

I have built 2 space assets and 1 surface, with another surface one under construction.
All of them have had Construction Sites with a selection of pads of all sizes.
Possibly there is a bug with reporting?

No, I don't send data outside of the games own reporting on any regular basis, only when I remember to open ED Discovery while playing, sorry.

Sorry, I do not use any 3rd party tools or send data out of the game. You made me curious though so I looked up the journal entry and found (in part) this bit:

"LandingPads":{ "Small":3, "Medium":11, "Large":0 }

I think there is a bug with the entries and that's why the 3rd party site you mention doesn't list large landing pads. In another forum about update 1 where they stated the journal entries are expanded (added types, flags, and other data) there were several comments about missing entries and other problems with the journal entries.

I paid a bit of extra attention tonight as I played and at the various times it docked me at the orbital construction station on pad 1, 2, and 4. Not sure if pad 3 is large or if there are others but the key point is there is at least 1 large pad on orbital construction sites.

one thing I don't really gey is that there is a constant traffic of T9 and other cargo ships on my construction ship buit they have 0 impact on construction.
I get that the players should do the heavy lifting but if there is a strong PNJ presence, why not reflect it at least marginally on the construction process. would be much more immersive

Ok, thanks for checking. Must be an Elite bug than that it's reporting the wrong numbers for LandingPads for stations of type SpaceConstructionDepot.

There seems to be small variance between builds, unsure why, but i noticed a difference of like, 1t , with some goods. Unsure why. But the types are the same.
It can be quite significantly variant on larger builds. I compare my numbers to these

Some of the values vary by as much as 2.5kt. The average variation is only 145t though.

The total difference? My build takes 2,751T more than that guy's estimate.

Not sure why they felt the need to randomise this. It doesn't particularly make things more fun, just more faffy.

This is the breakdown:

The amount we deliver isn't nearly enough to build the settlements, stations, ports, etc. That's just our share as architect. Everything else is handled by the NPCs we see. Of course we're allowed to get suckers.... I mean other players to help with our share.

I just placed my construction site for my Orbis station. I don't plan to get it done anytime soon, I just plan to add to it here and there while I build other stuff.

Race ya, just placed mine too 😂

That is, the winner is the one who takes the longest. I don't intend to rush this either. I can do smaller builds in the meanwhile if I want a break.

Having a T9 block the one large pad for my surface construction for several minutes was pretty annoying X(

It is perfectly balanced.
It really isn't and the discourse on the forums, including the very thread you're posting in, says otherwise.
There are already reports of players soloing Coriolis and Orbis.
Anecdotal point. Many players have a lot of time on their hands. Just because there some players have done it doesn't mean it's a realistic feat for everyone else
Not for you? Well, happens. Most of the content in this game isn't for me, either.
It is for me. That's the point I'm making. This is the most "me" feature ED has released since FC's. Tycoon/management/city builder games are some of my top played. I expected Colonisation to be Cities Skylines/Factorio in space, but instead its just reskinned hauling.

I want to be the System ARCHITECT, not the System Delivery Man
But no reason to restrict anything to anyone, just because it isn't your cup of tea.
??? The current status quo is RESTRICTING this feature from most solo players. Our suggestions are about de-restricting this feature and making it more accessible.

No reason to restrict this feature to the top players/groups just because it isn't for you ...
