Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Claim Pause

If I were in charge... For a laugh.

Thank you for your continued feedback and patience regarding the current TrailBlazer Beta build.

Our team recognizes the urgency of addressing the identified performance degradation issue within the planetary terrain generation subsystem—specifically related to procedural mesh instantiation and GPU instancing anomalies. Currently, our daily iterative process involves targeted debugging, root-cause analysis, and subsequent optimizations within the shader pipeline and terrain LOD streaming algorithms.

Given the complexity of real-time computational dependencies between terrain tessellation and physics mesh collision detection—coupled with ensuring server-client synchronization stability—updates at intervals shorter than daily are not viable from a technical or QA perspective. Frequent incremental deployments carry significant risk of further regression due to incomplete build validation cycles.

Rest assured, our development cycle follows rigorous CI/CD best practices with comprehensive automated integration testing, followed by manual QA verification. At present, builds are stabilized and deployed for public testing once per day after successful internal validation, regression testing, and benchmarking performance metrics against established KPIs.

We deeply understand and respect your desire for more frequent insights; thus, we will continue providing detailed daily technical briefings outlining ongoing debugging progress, optimization strategies, known issues under active investigation, and expected performance improvements.

Your detailed and specific technical reports greatly assist our team in prioritizing and addressing critical path issues, so we encourage continued detailed submissions through our established bug-tracking channels.

Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding.

From mpov I think they will want it done before frontier unlocked and definitely before the new ship arrives as otherwise they might end up fire fighting on two fronts so to speak. The only reason I was pushing for well shoving for an update was after a week there had been no information forth coming and no response to any queries about the pause. Again from mpov if we had an update once a week think that's appropriate and that's an easy thing to convey e.g from now on we will provide an update before the weekly tick or something along those lines. That way peeps would know where they stood, it's the not knowing anything that can get people wound up and some us that play Elite are a unique bunch so to speak lol 😂

From 1100 CDT to 2322 CDT yesterday, I ran through all of King Crimson, Triumivirate, many others, and was reduced to "We Built This City" at the end of 12 hours and 22 minutes of trucking.

I needed an update from Paul Crowther every time I made a run...
I did not need that particular song stuck in my head... thanx mate.

You have my condolences for your loss of musical taste.

Block time to one of my usual sourcing ports is 17 minutes. Call it three runs an hour. Ignoring trips to planetary ports, and the need to switch to medium ships for certain materials, the 28 runs to build an outpost will take 9.33 hours on the Hobbs meter.

Note: distance was 42 LY, optimized port supply and location, boost and SCO were in near-continuous use.

sheesh. no one has any patience these days. folks seem to expect personal replies,. minute by minute updates.. and then spam the forums when they don't get it. ...

enhance your calm (john sparten)
OTOH powerplay 2 had a similar issue months ago and still not turned on. maybe they should have just paused all colonisation and then at least we are all in the same boat :D

Who remembers when the normal means of communication was the post service? We had to be patient. It built character imo!

The instant message generation don't know the're born.
I do.

I also remember ordering console games by phone from an importer based hundreds of kms away from where I lived (the bane of village life - so couldn't just waltz into their shop down the road), only to be delivered 6-12 weeks later, if I was lucky and they weren't out of stock. Every day I would come home from school in the hope that the game had arrived, or desperately hoping the mailman was just running late, only to be disappointed. Now and then I'd try to call, be stuck in their queue for 20 minutes, and when I'd finally get through to be told no news, try again next week.

Frontier are doing a pretty good job at emulating those days, got to admit.

Imo that would have been fairer but from Frontiers point of View it would have been worse as all momentum for Colonization would have been lost and there wouldn't have been those arx purchases. Plus there would have been a lot of bad publicity as from what I've seen all the main YouTubers jumped in straight away so their loyal subjects could see the magnificence of their glorious new estates lol ( a little bit of sarcasm and humour there ). If paused Frontier would not have got all the advertising of Colonization and also none of the how to guides would have been there. In addition they wouldn't have been able to continue working on the bugs as limited data would be coming In. Tbf though we don't know what their working on or the plans for colonization. If it where to be paused for all they would also have the whole community asking questions this would put more pressure on Frontier to fix an reinstate. This way Frontier can give the appearance their working on something and not really have to give any details as it's automatically presumed it would be Colonization. So to sum up all that Waffle it's better for it to be this way for Frontier because it only affects a portion of the player base rather than all ( who want to take part ) and data can be collated to suit Frontiers own timescale.

Thinking about it this pause does put the non participants in worse spot. As the longer colonization is shut down the more Cmdr's will complete their systems meaning again there will be more competition for systems whenever it may be available for all. Gonna have to Mark my territory lol
