Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

A question: When we complete a Tier 2 installation, it awards us another 2 construction points. Is there a practical limit to construction, because it seems I can make endless tier 2 installations.
For example; I decided set up a tier 2 installation (not fully built), and immediately another point to install opened up in system map.

Suggestion:

We can buld what we like currently, but can there be also a "catch" for colonization permits from the patron faction?

Example: " Ok, 25 Million for permit; but then you need to set up a military outpost, another Ocellus Port and/or a pirate base etc after first installation, before you get free building in that system"

It can be dependent on the star system's size and contents. If a system have 2 gas giants or at least 3 planets to land on, the faction may require 1 big T3 construction etc. And
it can be time limited, so that if the required extra constructions are not finished in time; then the architect loses to install more on that system. If he does , he can continue as he wishes.
In either case, the commander can move on to colonize another system.

Makes sense a bit, I mean how can players set up a penal colony otherwise? Instead of players , let patron factions decide randomly. Also adds a random "abandoned outpost/installation" spice to the game.

My asteroid station after Thursday tick is missing the Shipyard and Universal Cartographics - is this normal? There is a shipyard place in the concourse.
Does anyone else have this? I think this is a bug
Did you get this sorted? I have 2 that don't have shipyards...

Fine if you are at a market. Colonisation hand-ins don't work as markets so you have to go back to your FC just to refresh the market. Unless you have a workaround for that too? Even then - they should fix it.
Quit to main menu on the colonization ship. It will refresh your inventory.

Does this maybe have something to do with the systems tech level? I think some people have been mentioning their coriolis not offering some services till it reached a certain threshhold.

I don't think that's the issue - I've compared my asteroid system with another and they're pretty much like-for like

Let us be able to destroy and abandon a facility and rebuild something new.
This is probably and by far the most requested improvement to the colonization system.

I don't know if there could perhaps be some logistical problems in having a full-on "dismantle an existing station/settlement", but at a very minimum there should be a way to cancel a newly started construction, perhaps before anything has been transported to it (or even after that. If the commodities are lost this way, then it is lost.)

Just a query, is there anywhere where I can get the material needs for each type of installation/port. Unfortunately didn't manage to make a claim before it was shut down and I do have some space still so was thinking I might top it up a bit more. Till now have just been grabbing Cmm composites and Steel as I knew those are needed
Come on Fdev get Colonization on track again, would it help if I dangled an arx purchase as an incentive lol just waiting to buy arx to rename those stations 😅 once I've built them obviously also obviously once I can actually claim a system. I will promise to buy at least Ten Thousand if that helps 😉

I have been hauling commodities day in day out for more than two weeks now and I am beginning to fear for my sanity. So I have decided to go Tritium mining for a bit. This has got me thinking about the Refinery contact that came along with the Trailblasers update and the 1:2 exchange rate that puts them in the extortion bracket along with Universal Cartographics on fleet carriers and Interstellar Factiors. If FDev brought the commission down to 25% (3:4 exchange rate) which seems to be the going rate for 'services rendered' then, in my mind, this would take them out of the "FU you mafioso barstools" button press category, after all, they have infrastructure to upkeep/expand, wages/overheads to pay, stockholders/capitalist pigs to keep happy and, unlike the pirates that inderdict/scan me, I do not want their children to go hungry.

This wouldn't break the hauling grind that colonisation is (in fact it probably increases it due to the fact you have to transport the raw material to the refinery contact then back to your fc with the refined commodity then deliver it to the construction site. But I would gladly do this if it meant I could do something else without feeling guilty that I am not grinding for my system), nobody in their right mind would consider it to be a viable alternative to going to stations/outposts to source their commodities.

Probably your best bet is DaftMav's spreadsheet and there is also Construction requirements matrix (forum thread) and https://disgo.pages.dev/colonybuilder

Nice idea, but realistically because of dismantling costs, it is cheaper to abandon it, and build somewhere else.
If someone wants to build on the same spot, then dismantling costs & time has to be paid beforehand. Kinda business risk.

not sure it should be dismantled. nnabandoned sure but if anything you could just carry on with construction a bit like some houses in. ..... is it Greece where they never fully put a roof on so they can add another story in the future.

The construction point system makes it not very viable to just start a construction and then abandon it before completing it. Obviously cancelling a construction should reimburse the construction points spent on it.

That's part of the problem... abandoning settlement part way through construction leaves a permanent damaged system. As to people who have built bridges of single small stations in systems rich in resources never to be developed. I feel like people don't care, or are forgetting that what they do today will be in the game forever till the game servers are taken off line at end of life. So lots of short sighted and temporary decisions are creating badly developed zones right now.

From Galnet News: New Era of System Colonisation Hailed a Success
  • 26,684 Claims have been made
  • 13,165 Systems have been colonised
Pretty much shows that around 1/2 of the players who have claimed a system found it too boring to haul that much stuff
  • 24,037 New starports and outposts have been built
  • 14,216 Surface installations have been established
And that the other 1/2 likes it so just enough to build 2 installations.

This to me indicates pretty clearly that material costs should go down and/or you should be able to use ingame credits to build stuff.
A 50% dropout rate is pretty huge, especially considering the length of the thread: people really really want to like this expansion.
Those undeveloped claims could be squadron mates holding a system for others that will actually work on them.

I would participate in AX if I could bring any old combat ship, but that doesn't work, you have to put effort in and build specifically for that. Colonization costs are probably at the right spot where not everyone will just do it, but plenty will put in effort needed.

...no one specially acknowledges the architect of other buildings humanity makes. Why would it be different now? We're contractors, not the system owners.
It does not seem to me that the architect is a mere contractor, since he continues to receive something like rents. At the very least, he owns the facilities, even if he leases them out to the settlement corporations. I get the arguments against the architect having security access to the buildings. But an argument also could be made in favor of it. It's not like it completely skews PP dynamics in that system and you would think that being the system architect who controls everything that gets built in it would give some natural advantage.

What would be nice......
The ability to build without hauling goods.
Hiring pilots that could bring some of your ships to take goods to your building project

I just got the confirmation email from devs................

"Hey CMDR,

Thanks for getting back in touch.

You are correct. Apologies for the oversight.

Your aligned faction is Black Alliance Industries and it should've been added to LHS 3213 as a third faction but I can see that this did not happen.

We suspect that this system is currently not working as it should and please rest assured that this is currently under active investigation.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If we can help with anything else, please feel free to reach out again."
Yeah, but how realistic is it to think that a commander who is worth billions of credits would be able to hire someone do perform mundane tasks? /s

Am I hallucinating or the system colonization is back?
