Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

Hi :)

If the station is complete construction wise but not all functions are active yet then it might be that you'll have to wait till the Thursday tick for everything (including gravity) to come alive.

Is the concourse still under construction and mostly devoid of NPCs?

Well there's a lot of scaffold towers about (some good attention to detail by FD there!(y)) and there is a scarcity of NPC's.
I had thought that Thursdays tic might alter the situation, but to be honest I wasn't sure.
Thanks for the reply, I'll probably know for sure next Thursday then :)

Jack :)

The Carrier like any other structure is in Orbit, it moves.

Not what I was arguing, but just to double- and sanity check myself aswell:
My FC and the Colonisation Ship are not moving relative to each other, the ETA on the nav reticule vanishes.
Compare just moving 1m/s:

The point still stands:
Please let me select which slot my carrier jumps to. Building anything colonisation related already takes up enough time.

The point is, do you think that whole expansions should only be available to the few or to everyone who obviously want to play the game.
There are multiple examples in this very thread of casual players building an outpost already - and actually the deadline is a month. So everyone who wants to play the game is... playing the game?

I agree builds could be made more interesting if the process wasn't all cargo hauling, for instance, a mats requirement or even some missions of some sort.

But Outposts are available to the casual player so Trailblazer is available to everyone.

As another example I don't like endless FPS sorties and terrible framerates and the unfathomable suit engineering so I don't take those missions, but I don't come to the forum and complain that means Odyssey is "only available to a few."

Feedback, you say?

This update killed the game for me.

Apologies if this comes across harsh its not meant to do so.

Comparing DU to ED is not really a good comparison for base building and to be honest the joy of DU was being able to make customer ships and structures as you felt they should look. However Elite dangerous has no customer ships or buildings at all so trying to say they should do the same a DU might actually be like saying they need to rebuilt the entire game engine to allow for it.

Last thing on DU is it was / is mind-numbingly boring in terms of resource acquisition - I am talking about mining units (asteroid mining to a lesser extent). As such you have ignored the mind numbing part of DU and skipped to the construction that comes afterwards so actually when you make this comparison you should be saying both are mind numbing to collect resources but you preferred DU's building mechanics, I know I did certainly. If no one plays it DU is just a tax payment loop each week and the reason why I do not play that any more. I do have the stand alone version of that game and will be trying that out once I have managed to spend the time and money on upgrading my PC so I can run it but chances are that will not be the same without other players.

Anyway. if I was going to suggest something from another game to add, it would be the X4 (or any of the X series games I have played) to show the stations actually being built and show the construction sites actually being setup too.

Edit: I should also state I prefer the ED resource collection to DU because it is at least variable - you are flying to different systems and landing on different stations or planets etc. So its not just doing exactly the same thing all the time even though the task is pickup resources and deliver them to your construction area.

A friend was parked on a construction station that disappeared when I finished the construction and now he can no longer access the game, game launches correctly and crashes to desktop when attempting to connect to the actual game. What can we do to restore the situation?

Happened to me as well, and I didnt know the unstuck option mentioend above. My ship was transferred to another system on Thursday update.

Hey FDev,

please make use of your new mission system you introduced not long ago and let construction sites create a suitable delivery mission in left panel. Also adapt the powerplay regocnition system which leads to friendly greetings for the architet and the system he builds. Yes, no?

Hello everyone, CMDR o7

With the release of the Trailblazers update, are left confused and there is no building manual.

For example:

It's unclear how to know what to build to produce the goods you need, as there’s no list of products produced by the stations.

It's unclear which ships will be sold on the shipyard and which modules will be available depending on the station’s economic type.

It's unclear how to change the colonial economy of space and ground stations.

It's unclear how the population changes after constructing a particular station. And so on. In short, there is no detailed manual with numbers for all the parameters.

Now, imagine a situation where you have colonized a system with 10 points for space stations and 10 for ground stations. You build different types of stations, installations, and ports to understand how everything works. In the end, you’ve built almost the entire system and then come to a standstill.

I’d like to remind you that building even a small station takes a significant amount of time, and then you have to move on to a new system with new knowledge to experiment further—nonsense. People simply won’t engage in such content because they’ll have to go through a large number of constructions without understanding what will eventually happen with their system.

But if there were a plan for what to build and why to build it, then everything would be clear and transparent. Therefore, I really hope that the developers will see this post and introduce the option to demolish constructions; otherwise, while trying to understand all the hidden mechanics and nuances, a huge number of resource systems and players’ nerves will be wasted.

Spread this message among CMDRs so that the developers respond and simplify further colonization for us. As for what to do with the resources that were spent on construction, that remains an open question.

Fly Safe, CMDR o7.

Feedback, you say?

This update killed the game for me.

My response to sHuRuLuNi's criticism:
  1. Hauling burns out everyone unless you're a serious masochist
    1. Response: true the current gameplay of hauling back and forth is very repetitive and boring.
  2. The whole thing is just menus select the type of settlement and then it shows a silhouette which u plop down where u want it to be built.
    1. Response: Seconded.
  3. No enjoyment of building yourself, putting it yourself connecting and creating the layout. You don't build anything.
    1. Response: Yeah there is no custom building of a facility. Maybe Fdev could add small facility parts that players can put together for a custom, unique facility.
  4. None of this is actually yours it all belongs to a group (faction) that belongs this part of space
    1. Response: True that is a big disappointment, because the Architect feels like an employee of someone else. The player should be given ownership.
  5. I cannot actually do something with the station, where will be the landing pad etc.
    1. Response: Agreed the utilization of the facilities is close to 0. Cannot change the layout, interior, exterior nor use it in a meaningful way.
  6. "It's a stupid run of the mill station." "Just a color theme is rubbish."
    1. Response: Seconded, there is a lack of customization, everyone has the same facilities, it cannot be personalized.
  7. "the concourse looks the same like everyone" "there's no people working or welding, cannot select where to place the sofa, table"
    1. Response: Seconded, zero customization.
  8. There's no individuality like this is mine, I don't care about Powerplay. I care about that I decide where to put things, select and move it. In Dual Universe you create the shape, handcraft it with precise determination.
    1. Response: Yep, unfortunately no such personalization is available. ED does not have voxel tech so such detailed editing is not possible.
  9. It's not mine I cannot even go to the settlement and sleep. It's like we're building the game for the devs.
    1. Response: Seconded there's no feeling of personal ownership.
You should also consider what is possible with the current engine tech and limitations. What could Fdev add or change that doesn't require a huge overhaul?

Here's some suggestions:
  1. The activities to build a facility should be expanded with other careers. The monotonous gameplay is boring game design.
  2. Fdev should add individual pieces of facilities that the player can put together to create custom facilities. Keep the current pre-made facilities, but also let the player customize it with modules. It doesn't have to be as detailed as Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo. Show a list of facility pieces to choose, place and assemble.
  3. Option to add rooms, furniture and decoration to the Concourse.
Some people had unrealistic expectations, because this is a free update. However, it has so much potential that it shouldn't be left in this very basic state.

Can we not? Insulating membranes are required in orders of magnitude less than CMMs, and i literally just got out of one station with, i dunno, 50 FCs in it? And a full hold myself, where i only need half of that... didn't even need to wait for a resup tick.

If we keep doing this, we might as well just introduce a new commodity: construction equipment, available in millions, and that's all we need to deliver.... if there's no difference between type and availability of goods, then let's just make then all the same.
I disagree. You need 361 just for the basic port. If all you can buy is 2 or 3 at the time, you'll never finish. Please increase availability.
