Distant Worlds 3 - "The Shoulder of Orion" Colonization Event

It was not clear for me if the total or the single jump range is needed in the form, so submitted totals. Is it possible to correct those values somehow?

Hi, and welcome to the DW3 Colonisation event.
I take it you joined the FleetComm discord?
Post your request in the Admin Contact channel:

Is it possible to sign up during the event? Right now I'm in the bubble and IRL out of country from Saturday onwards until the end of March.

The organisers have politely asked that we do not bring our personal carriers.
That was for the Expedition itself next year. For the Colonization Event, they actually want volunteer carriers to help with the commodity hauling

I am fairly new to the game and probably wont be of much use. How could a CMDR like me help?
Sign up and tell them how much you are able to carry in your cargo. Then when the time comes you can pick up some materials and bring them to the designated system. The sign up form has all the info there. Sign up Link

Don't know what the organizers planned this time, but the usual procedure for hauling group activities is:
  • carrier is stationed in the source system
  • players with cargo ships haul cargo from the souce stations to the carrier (i.e. sell the commodities to the carrier). Depending on the generosity of the carrier owner, they may make a profit or not - but if you need credits to participate, post a request or ask in system chat, and usually a way can be found. Depending on the source stations, a medium pad cargo ship (i.e. Python Mk.I or Type-8) might be the best bet, but it can't hurt to also have a Type-9 available.
  • once a carrier is loaded up, it's up to you whether you want to park on that carrier to be transported to the unloading system, or want to stay in the source system to help filling up the next carrier (it's often communicated in the group or system chat at which end more support is needed at the moment)
  • in the unloading system, buy the commodities back from the carrier and ship them to the destination station.
  • repeat untril done or your playtime is up.

For this kind of base building activity, I'd imagine that the buy price at the source station, the sell price to the carrier, the buy price from the carrier and the sell price to the construction ship would be reasonably matched, so any loaders/unloaders won't make much of a profit or loss - but you'd need the ready cash to fill up your cargo hold at least once.

The Orion Cloud is fairly close to Thargoid country...any ructions anticipated? I can't imagine they'd be happy to see more pesky humans colonising on their doorstep given their departing (pictorial) message.

Hmmm. Maybe, just maybe, DW3 is going to be the first joint Human-Thargoid expedition and the first steps toward peaceful coexistence? What a turn of events that would be!
Make it happen Frontier 🙏

Well, I dont think we have any in-game mechanisms for getting along peacefully with a non human language speaking species, but it would be interesting.
