DLC 19 Speculation

Yeah exactly this. With birds I care less about where they’re from and more just how iconic they are to a zoo (or in this case zoo game haha). Some specific ones that I would love to have are the white stork (after seeing this one in Miami I’m convinced Europe isn’t complete without it), a pheasant species, pelican, duck, jabiru, Victoria pigeon, spoonbill etc.
I somewhat agree on that view. Pelicans, storks, pheasants and ducks are obviously much more needed than the roadrunner. But how is the jabiru more iconic than and owl or a roadrunner? Lol

Them.

I know the mess that is Arid's roster has been talked about to death, but literally just swapping two of the ungulates (addax and black rhino would be my choices personally) for two options between a bird/primate/reptile (secretary bird, guineafowl, crowned crane, vervet monkey, African crocodile, getting the hamadryas or spurred tortoise early) would have improved it exponentially even if it stuck with its Palearctic/Afrotropical focus.

Yeah tbh I never had any desire to get both the scimitar horned oryx and the addax, it always felt like one or the other for me and getting both felt like a bit of a waste.
Addax >> Scimitar-horned Oryx. IF we only got one I'd prefer the Addax because its horns are more unique. Also, I'd probably switch Scimitar-horned for Arabian personally. Then, we'd have a Middle Eastern Antelope.

It's hilarious that you're still so hung up on the Arid pack that was released almost two years ago! 🤯🤣

How can something from that long ago still get you so frustrated? It's honestly crazy.
Because we are bored, grasping for straws about how to fill more pages till the next teaser and it being quite underwhelming even after getting the two most discussed missing animals from the pack

That’s a weird way to spell Dama gazelle
huh, i always though we all agreed that if something had to go from Arid it were the rhino, gazelle and cat.
Why do you think the Dama gazelle and sand cat should have been left out? Especially the Dama gazelle...

Anyway, we won't be redoing the previous packs again and again but it keeps us busy while we wait for more news on the next pack.
Yeah, probably until April 8 then.

I mean, personally the only thing that made me "mad" about the arid pack was the inclusion of the Rhino. I'm usually NOT anti-clone but that was to me personally the very definition of a clone... I was just saying, IF we did get rid of one of the two large North African Antelope I would get rid of the Scimitar-horned Oryx to replace it with a Middle Eastern Antelope. I'm of the opinion that both are good to have in game. Especially since they are herbivores and IRL Biodiversity, herbivore species are way more numerous than carnivore species. I feel like the game could try to be a decent cross section of IRL Biodiversity, or at least what kinds of animals are kept in human care...

Nobody is frustrated about it or talking about how terrible it was. We're all talking about how it was dissapointing when it came out, due to the odd name and the fact that it was Africa centric, but now most of us are ok with it, especially after what the Zookeeper Collection brought us

I don't think anyone is really frustrated about it lol, we're just casually discussing it because it came up. Hell, people are still discussing the far older Arctic pack. Criticism is how the game grows as long as it's constructive; there's no harm meant by it.

It's no secret that you like the pack and that's amazing - It's great that you can find enjoyment in something a lot of people aren't a fan of, but the constant shutting down of said critique and taking it as a personal attack is far less constructive than the complaints themselves imo.

The Dama gazelle wasn't an animal anybody brought up. Heck, gazelles were rarely brought up in the 1st place. And then to have this random gazelle that several players, even animal nerds, never heard of was kinda odd.
The animal itself is nice, and I do enjoy their inclusion. But at that time, we were totally unsure if 2023 or 2024 were the final years. We've been gladly proven otherwise, but still

The Dama gazelle wasn't really requested while being from an niche over represented while not bringing much from the tabble, but the main reason IMO is that it was both our second antelope and fifth ungulate on the pack, making an already boring pick even more boring.

As for the cat, it's basically an feline version of the fennec fox, so it doesn't excites me compared to something like the perentie or rhea.

So you say.

Arabian oryx would be good, but I feel like the Scimitar-Horned Oryx was too iconic to be replaced by anything else in Conservation Pack.
It is the very symbol of an animal that was saved by zoos, and for a while it was our only EW animal (before its conservation status got reevaluated and changed to EN in late 2023)

This is pretty much the main criticisms of most of the packs the last 2-3 years. The actual animals are okay...just that there were "better choices" available. Zookeepers, Arid, Tropical - Eurasia was really the only recent one that didn't suffer from this - with Sloth Bear being more of a "This animal just doesn't fit the theme" issue.

A roadmap for the future in 2023 would've have been awesome and great to reduce anxiety. It was an year when we thought the game was coming to an end and yet we kept recieving oddball.after oddball that clearly we're taking the place of the most requested animals (and at the time that felr like that was it for them, their chance wasted in some niche or bottom of the list animal instead): Arid being all african ungulates gallore while neglection american deserts and Australia, baboon being sidelined in favor or a random gazelle and a second african rhino, coati not showing up in a tropical pack and no new world monkey to get a climbing monitor that doesn't even climbing and people weren't even actively asking for ir, quokka displacing the tree roo from the pack that was clearly the perfect place for ir to appear, a sloth bear instead in an Eurasia pack when Palla's cat and markhor were missing or the saiga pick instead of the blackbuck for asian antelope (though that one had the votes so that's really on us). Some of this animals are still missing of course. Frontier has fixed mainly the Eurasia and the Arid rosters with ZKs and now this. Probably next DLC will patch Tropical and Oceania. But yeah knowing there is more to come for sure will reduce the frustración we get with some of this choices a lot.
