Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yeah, its probably not black and white, but do you think it could be a contributing factor?
I think it doesn't make a community any more or less ganky if small ships can run away faster. And it's not even true, my Cutter starter ship could hardly outrun a fighter, a rented miner or freighter even less so. This whole thread looks more like another therapy session in accepting Master Modes :) Bargaining?
They make an interesting point: Want to opt-out? Buy a Polaris! (it won't help)

Also, do you think MM exists because of SQ42? I'm quite skeptical about that...
I really don't know. I begin to suspect that SQ42 doesn't involve much space flight at all.
my pet theory it was to slow things down to reduce stress on the servers and nothing to do with SQ42.
Chris loves his cinematics. If that coincides with reduced server load, the better.

Isn't all this crap usually done after a game gets developed, released, and/if reviewed favorably? Looks to me as though CIG has an issue with it's perception of itself and where it is in relation to actual established games development studios that have established products/ip's. They feel no shame nor remorse in failing to deliver year after year.

They reward themselves for having no finalized products, no back catalogue, no entertainment history, no finished projects, nothing but constantly malfunctioning and poorly made demo's. Without the ridiculous income from unrealized promises, hopes and dreams, this company would fall flat on it's face and fold overnight.

I can't shake the feeling they're trying to build a museum. Like you said to celebrate the project. I don't understand the thought process that went through commissioning these display pieces.

"All money pledged goes towards the development of the game"

I wonder how CIG can say this contributes towards the development of the game.... pretty sure it doesn't make the devs work any harder.

Vibe can help in theory right? In any company.

But it tilts the other way if you keep slapping on lavish cosmetics for years, while simultaneously drawing back on bonuses, raises and hires. As the Glassdoors have repeatedly noted (and occasional public complaints like the Sales guy Roocroft), these parallel dynamics bash morale rather than boost it.

TLDR: CIG use 'fake it to make it' on their staff as much as their fanbase. And it works. But it has its limits ;)

It's more like a shrine I think, they collect these trinkets and artifacts to worship their own ineptitude, and to make it seem like a real thing to the general public, with outside items attached to it's existence. "How can it not exist? Look at all these things that bear it's mark, it must be real and must exist". Absolute copium. If they didn't flaunt their offices and their decorations etc so much it would take away from the "we are a real company, doing real work" because there certainly isn't much else coming off the end of the conveyor.

If I was a backer, if I, a reasonable person, had a reasonable expectation of getting something in fair exchange for my money, I would be absolutely fuming. Do these people giving money to this "project" never complain, consider returning, or demand a refund on an item bought online (from any store/site) if that item turns out to be 'defective' or 'not as described'?

Oh hell yeah, all the time.

But there are plenty of others who 'hold the line', screwing down their resolve with every 'perfection takes time' meme.

And there are still new joiners to the ranks. Entranced by the cloud cover dappling those foreshadowed future lands...

(Would be v interesting to know what ratio of noobs go full whale, vs times of old though. I'd guess there are a lot more $45 alpha-players these days).

What's sad, what's really and truly sad, is that these people will, at the end of the day when Chris has made off with all of our money and there's nothing left but the whiff of a game inside of a broken tech demo, there will still be people saying it was the best game they ever played, and they got more out of it than they paid into it, as if it will somehow justify the whole thing as worthwhile.

There will be people saying "when you buy NFTs you're only buying a picture!" as if that somehow makes it better, or "people spend more than that on those mobile casino games and they're not calling it a scam!" as if THAT will somehow make it better. There will be a considerable swathe of people, in my opinion, who will go down with the ship, drown, and still call it the best cruise they've ever been on.

I'm guessing there will be less whales around once the global economic downturn kicks in. ;)

Well...that would be a kick in the nuts. The only thing I hold hope for on my old pledge is playing SQ42 as a space flight game like Wing Commander or Freelancer.
Silly goose, just because that's what you signed up for and essentially what Chris Roberts promised, you clearly don't know anything about game development. This game is nothing but ganking and PvP now, as it was always intended from day one. Everyone knows this but especially me.
