DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Yeah. And whatever animals I felt about not being there soon, it'll take six months for next pack of animals to be fully announced, and no longer three to four months due to probably or maybe focusing on bundle of previous packs for Console Edition. Kind of too bad that Console Edition wasn't (probably couldn't) completed with all previous dlc packs before upcoming PC ones.
They're about 2 or 3 packs behind if memory serves but can't remember if I included the latest in that count but I am sure I worked it out at Summer or Anniversary being that update which brings both in line with each other .. runs off to check my post on that rofl.

Barnyard and Zookeeper packs are the ones that Console doesn't have so far along with this new pack. In theory, based on their double pack bundle releases so far, PC could have another DLC in Summer or Anniversary giving Console 2 double DLC packs in the same time period. Anniversary could be where both systems get the same DLC with single packs going forward, unless PZ 2 is announced as in development etc with no more DLCs ( assuming animals not compatible between versions ) or DLCs stopping soon after .

So, as of this months bundle pack they are now just 2 packs, 3 come April behind PC. So, they will either have them one at a time or bundled in their next 2 or 3 updates. The first update perhaps in May and then another in July potentially bringing them up to date and then Nov/Dec being perhaps the last pack for both platforms if they are stopping there with this version.
May 2025 - Barnyard + Zookeepers
July 2025 - Whatever pack we are getting on PC next - We actually getting this April 2025, leaving Summer free or that last pack to bring PC and Console in line with each other.
Nov 2025 - Last Pack to end all packs if that is the case for both PC and Console, or announcement that PZ2 is in development and DLCs for PZ1 being stopped.

Nov 2026/2027 - Perhaps PZ 2 in the news or released
Sure there'll be the last and final pack? Or any evidences for that? Prehistoric Kingdom (not Frontier Developements game) had roadmap in website but didn't showed date release, but Planet Zoo had not somewhere.
And will there be an Anniversary animal in November?

the console edition has all DLC packs from before 2024. Oceania and Eurasia just released yesterday. This article gives a timeline for when each pack was released. Not really sure why some packs in the console column are unmarked (unless I'm missing something).
My thinking for the future is thus:
  • Western Animal Pack - April 15th
  • Barnyard + Zookeeper Bundle - May 27th (approx.)
  • Final Animal Pack - October 14th (approx.)
  • Western + Final Bundle - October 14th (approx, console players finally get parity with PC!)
Neither rheas and ostriches are in Western North America. And that pack is called Americas Animal pack. And had you already changed that somewhere?

The news thread got me thinking about sub-continents, so I made a few Animal Packs

Frigid (Alaska) Animal Pack:
  • Muskox
  • Walrus
  • Sea Otter
  • Common Eider
  • American Black Bear
  • Elk
  • Rock Ptarmigan
India Animal Pack:
  • Nilgai
  • Blackbuck
  • Honey Badger
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • Asian Forest Tortoise
  • Northern Red Muntjac
  • Temminck's Tragopan
Cono (Southern Cone) Animal Pack:
  • Patagonian Mara
  • South American Coati
  • Black-&-Gold Howler
  • Marsh Deer
  • Red-Legged Seriema
  • Chaco Chachalaca
  • Argentine Tegu
I agreed just the Frigid one.

Well if we do get another DLC, I highly think it won’t be an Island pack. I was floating around making a cute “Island Zoo” with only animals endemic to Islands. Well, look what we already have in game:
  1. American Flamingo (Caribbean and Galapagos)
  2. Galapagos tortoise
  3. Aldabra tortoise
  4. Tasmanian devil
  5. Quokka
  6. Kiwi
  7. Little Blue Penguin
  8. King penguin
  9. Fossa
  10. Ring tailed lemur (and the other three lemurs)
  11. Red crowned crane
  12. Japanese macaque
  13. You could probably even count the grey seal, and maybe the California sea lion
So I would be very shocked if we got an island DLC. The American Flamingo I thought was the last sign to think “it’s over for that idea”.

No clue, but timing on Planet Coaster 2 from it's Planet Coaster 1 timing puts a potential Planet Zoo 2 in a 2026/2027 release window, so just a theory for now.
So, after console and PC are in line ( likely by the end of the year regardless of timing of the next few packs/DLCs ) whether there are more DLCs or not are probably dependant on whether there is a PZ2 actively in development or they would like us to spend more money on animal packs or they work on a different game that they hope will attract PZ players. I personally wasn't expecting anything once console came out outside of an anniversary animal or two. So anything after that is a bonus for me.
Anniversary Animal ? no clue. Hopefully at least one more.
All we can do is wait.

Hopefully once console has caught up with PC they will give us some news, be it good or bad.
And looking at their FY25 report linked on their website ( https://www.frontier.co.uk/company/annual-and-interim-reports )
The FY27 game could be PZ2 or a different CMS game. With PZ being 2nd in performance charts ( shown in that report ) behind JWE it would be prudent to consider a similar or follow up game to add to that collection of high performance games. We will just have to wait and see what they have planned.

Strategic reset in FY24 resulted in a refocus on ourgenre leadership in CMS games.
We confirmed three CMS games:
Planet Coaster 2 (FY25)
A third Jurassic World game (FY26)
Another CMS game (FY27)
The FY27 game is in development and is on-track
It remains unannounced

Also Komodo Dragon, Bornean Orangutan, North Sulawesi Babirusa, Proboscis Monkey

psst Komodo Dragon :) - Nevermind, see someone pointed that out already rofl.

Wishful thinking right now is a few exhibit dlcs, 1 basic model dlc and the final dlc is packed with more animals and stuff
honestly it’s easy for me to say what I think the game needs, but the only issue I have is I don’t know what the future holds. I have two lines of thinking due to this DLC (and talking to DuckKnight about it):
  1. This is a lower effort DLC. And due to the smaller team we should expect stuff like this going forward.
  2. Zookeeper was gonna be the last pack, but due to sales the team will continue to make DLC. The Americas Pack is a bit “lower effort” due to the sudden change in course.
Hard to say what’s gonna happen next. But in general, this is what I would like to see as a “final year” with three more DLCs:
  1. A bird pack, which is obvious and like asking if the ocean has water in it. The disparity has gotten better with the inclusion of the two birds for South America. However, after 5 years of waiting South America had gotten double that number in cats alone. So with every step forward for birds the rest of the animal roster continues to out pace by leaps and bounds.
  2. An exhibit pack, this pack would have a higher number of animals, being around 12. This is because only 4 of those animals would be habitat animals. To follow the bird pack, this pack would also be like a reptile pack. However it wouldn’t only have reptiles!
  3. Finally, we would have a sequel to the Conservation Pack, which I don’t know what to call other than the endangered pack. This pack would give us some of the last most endangered animals important to zoos. It would also give me a ton of education pieces, with the pack especially highlighting all the good work zoos do.

I've also kind of thought about it, but my idea was more of a "reptiles and amphibians pack" which due to its scope would include more exhibits than usual but no arthropods.

Personally I would hope for an Arthropod or two, my main hope is we could get some fish too. Generally the exhibit DLC I thought of would look like this:
  1. Slender shouted crocodile
  2. Perentie
  3. Black and white tegu
  4. Radiated tortoise
  5. King Cobra
  6. Mata Mata turtle
  7. Chameleon
  8. Red belly piranha
  9. African cichlid
  10. Blue poison dart frog
  11. Cane toad
  12. Leaf cutter ants

If more "complicated" animals are not happening I could see us getting a Safari Animal Pack without the secretary bird.

I think something like this would honestly be pretty likely:
  1. Bat-Eared Fox
  2. Greater Kudu
  3. Grey Crowned Crane
  4. Helmeted Guineafowl
  5. Honey Badger
  6. Nile Crocodile
  7. Serval
A lot of clones but honestly I would take this, the crane and guineafowl in particular would be amazing and the rest are all decent picks.

Based on this Felidae chart from wikipedia, Planet Zoo currently has those marked in green. The ones marked in red could be future options to complete the pattern ( all big cats and 1 per genus of the others ). The serval is amongst those. I wonder if similar Family/Genus lists will have a similar pattern. ponders

I keep seeing this come up - there is actually a difference between the tanuki and the raccoon dog. the tanuki, aka the Japanese raccoon dog, is an entirely different species and AFAIK not in very many holdings outside of Japan. If we get a raccoon dog, it's probably going to be the mainland species, not the tanuki.
im an idiot i want the tanuki but i voted for the raccon dog i think
