Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi :)

Any precautions necessary? Or am I fine going in there with a CMT? (Obviously non-engineered and no ACCRs.)

Uh... Janet (the one in my profile picture) doesn't own one after almost three years. How do you expect a three days old char to have an FC? (Buying the game to create Morgan ate the entire gaming funds of two months...)

....I also didn't know what you meant by CMT :), as the other folks here have said Meta Alloys are not corrosive, but as I pointed out earlier once you've picked them up you'll be fair game for the pirates. Also, obviously when you're at the Titan wreck sites steer clear of incoming stray Thargoid vessels, and again don't pick up Thargoid based stuff as a few of those are corrosive. You need the special anti corrosive cargo racks for those really to be on the safe side. A limpet collector might help to collect them faster, but it's not really necessary for a half dozen or so.
After you've picked up enough of those MA's don't hang about too long at the site, I've had a few re-buys in those areas for loitering! :D

Carriers...Sorry btw. I wasn't sure if you'd got a carrier or not. Here's the thing about carriers though, when they were first released I was pretty much negative about owning one. Nowadays that's pretty much 90% positive, they're so useful in many ways, being able to store stuff is the obvious one, and once materials / commodities are offloaded to your carrier they're safe (barring some of the carrier cargo transfer bugs we've had) so your ships cargo bays being empty virtually negates any npc pirate attacks usually, attacks which can be annoying sometimes if you just want to generally do other stuff in the game.

I've spent most of today in the garden, and the sunshine has been really pleasant, we've lost that chill wind as well.
Anyhow, I'm just going to make dinner....then I'll boot up the game for a couple of hours this evening.

Hi All :)

Collector limpets! 🧐 (mining mode)... When not collecting anything they are now circling the cargo scoop?...this is a different movement to what they used to do.
I've just released 6 limpets, went to exterior of ship (My Federal Corvette) and observed their movement with the exterior camera, which is a perfectly circular rotation.
Was there a note about this anywhere as it's certainly a change from their fairly static positions (until there's metals / minerals to collect).
You can partially see this on the ships Hud / radar screen too, though the movement is slightly less obvious, but the difference is still noticeable, they look a bit brighter too to me but I'm not sure, and it's maybe due to the slightly extended orbital movement. :)

I'm wondering if this is one of the changes in one of the two recent updates we've had, if so I missed / overlooked it .
I like the change anyway, it makes the limpets look clearer, you can actually see visually how many are active at one time..

Jack :)

I'm currently enjoying the Pirate Massacre CG in Dahn. I'm in the top 50%, but that won't last long. I'll be top 75% or lower before the end, no doubt.
Always remember to tell your collectors to ignore Escape Pods and you'll be left in peace to pick and choose your next target.
Elite NPCs in a Sidewinder? Pah!

Looks like my AX Chieftain (pre-built) is far more capable than my self-built Krait II.

I had to lower my expectations after the last attempt at scout hunting so found a few threat three's to work through. Actually found these a little easy, so now I'm learning the ropes (again!) in threat four's. I'm so rubbish at ship combat.

But I did get a warm sense of pride when I hit a 'goid with my fixed (yes! fixed!) Guardian Gauss Cannon.

"They don't like it up 'em!"

I created a new char. Without the PF starting region allowing you to get used to things, Deciat seemed the "faster" option to get a little more out of FSD and thrusters.
I was in Maia, but I couldn't find anything there. I can't remember where specifically I would be able to get them and the CoPilot couldn't find any. Doesn't look for FCs, though, which is why I asked INARA. Which, funnily enough, only listed FCs.
Thanks to some quick credits from exploring, I managed to get a higher rated FSD, which netted me around 11ly per jump, but still, 300 ly is a tour de force. Though by now, I'm pretty sure that I've done way more than that.
But that also means that the CoPilot could help me find some known bios without a DSS. Thus Morgan now owns a shiny new CMT with all the stuff to collect mats and do some more exobio, alongside the Sidey.
Aaah, okay. Deciat's better anyway since it tends to be more lively in my experience. It's also a good place to screw around in open if you don't mind the insurance cost.
Something I haven't done for a while...

Off to Asterope with Moist von Lipwig, my AX ship. I also have the prebuilt Chieftain with all it's AX stuff to try out, although it's geared up more for Titans by the look.
I didn't really think you were into the Thargoid stuff but I'd like to break out and tinker with the AX Krait again. I don't even have Guardian stuff on it. The grind is just not appealing to me.

Have you joined the Anti-Xeno private group? There are some ganksters who sneak in but I've never happened across one.

I'm not, you're right.

But dhip combat is the last discipline I require for Elite V across the board.

But.

I can't really see myself chasing that. It's too far off and I'll just get fed up with it. So, it's just a little diversion in the short term while I ponder what to do next.

Well, my trip to a titan wreck was quite uneventful. Didn't see any living Thatgoids, found two MAs and hopped over to Deciat.
After handing over the MA to Felitcity, I also handed over some exploration data I had collected on the way there, which unlocked grade 3 access right away.
Next up for Morgan: Collecting materials to engineer stuff.
And I think Janet has the same task... Wow.

Maybe it will go faster if they wing up.

How good are you and your computer at multi tasking?

Probably the best approach. At least from my perspective. I was just wondering what kind of XP you get from Thargoids but even that sounds like a humungous grind.

I think they downgraded the amount of XP you get from scouts - I have a hazy memory of it being mentioned somewhere. I've killed a few now and my bar hasn't shifted a pixel.

And now I'm in a bit of a quandary. My Chieftain is OK ish for scout bating, but I want something with a little more oomph. The Corsair seems ripe for repurposing and I would do just that but I've engineered the weaponry and, as it's a pre build, I can't store the modules.

So, I am asking myself the following:
  • Do I bite the bullet and fit some enhanced AX MC's to four of the existing weapons?
  • What about other stuffs I have on board?
  • Should I instead refit the Krait II? At least I can store those modules.
The Corsair has bigger thrusters, one more hard point and one more internal bay. And it's a new toy.

Time to put my thinking cap on.

I would probably be able to manage that. But my computer? No way. It is struggling with one game running.
The Corsair has bigger thrusters
According to TheBuurPit, those interestingly cap out at around 600 m/s, which is the same speed you'd get if you'd install size 6 ones.

This isn't wrong, but only part of the picture.

This is how I understand it: Every ship basically has a maximum speed you cannot exceed. We rarely ever see this, but with the Corsair, it has massively oversized thrusters for an incredibly light ship. Thrusters have a minimum mass value, and when your ship falls below that mass, the speed doesn't increase anymore no matter how light you make it. For the Corsair with 7A DD thrusters, that mass is like 950 tons or so.

So your ship has to exceed that mass to see the mass having a negative influence on the maximum speed. For 6A DD thrusters, that minimum mass is much lower - like 600 and a bit tons or so - and so you reach that point where mass actually matters much earlier. It is the same on all ships, but it is very prominent on the Corsair because of the oversized thrusters.
