Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

How did you end up in Deciat? I thought you were a Khun bro.

You can get meta alloys in Maia but I ended up somewhere else once because of a mispelling. Kind've annoying when you're starting the game and can maybe only jump three light years at a time.
I created a new char. Without the PF starting region allowing you to get used to things, Deciat seemed the "faster" option to get a little more out of FSD and thrusters.
I was in Maia, but I couldn't find anything there. I can't remember where specifically I would be able to get them and the CoPilot couldn't find any. Doesn't look for FCs, though, which is why I asked INARA. Which, funnily enough, only listed FCs.
Thanks to some quick credits from exploring, I managed to get a higher rated FSD, which netted me around 11ly per jump, but still, 300 ly is a tour de force. Though by now, I'm pretty sure that I've done way more than that.
But that also means that the CoPilot could help me find some known bios without a DSS. Thus Morgan now owns a shiny new CMT with all the stuff to collect mats and do some more exobio, alongside the Sidey.

Hi all :)

I did a quick search, Darnielle's Progress in Maia...Outpost, stock always low, and expensive, (that's assuming the info is still currently accurate!) :)

Current way to get meta alloys is in the Titan wreckage sites. They're among the assorted debris drifting in space.
Yeah, I agree, that's where I've normally got all my Meta alloys from. You can usually get several in a fairly short time.
It might also be a good idea (Especially if you own a carrier to store them) to collect more than you need in case there are other missions / module builds that might need them in the future....maybe? ;)...I can't remember just at this moment whether the 'canisters' contain 3 meta's ? or just singular per canister object.

Edit...Just thought to add, I'm pretty sure Meta Alloys stored in your ships cargo bay is like any other cargo as regards npc pirates, you're more open to interdictions and attacks!

What am I up to....I'm going to give the game a miss today, well at least most of this morning. I bought some packs of pea & bean netting at 'The Range' yesterday, which was surprisingly cheap at £1.99p a pack. :D...so I'm going to put that in place and also get some fresh air in the garden. I had some serious interesting looks from our local pigeons yesterday (I call the fattest two 'Porgy & Bess') where I'd planted the seeds previously.🤨...so, netting put up and some homemade Pidgeon scarers in the immediate area (old dvd disks tied with string to some canes usually does the trick.) Rain's forecast this weekend so I'm on a small deadline to plant some other veg seeds too.

Later this afternoon / evening, Mining probably in the game. I'm parked up in my carrier in one of my favourite spots just outside the bubble, some of the mined stuff I'll sell just to contribute / offset the cost of buying Tritium from one of the space stations in the bubble. At one of my player built stations I've noticed there's quite a few mining missions for Osmium with good pay-outs, plus some other mined stuff, so I'll bear this in mind too. I don't suppose it'll make any difference other than 'happiness' at the stations in delivering these commodities but we'll see.

Jack :)

Any precautions necessary? Or am I fine going in there with a CMT? (Obviously non-engineered and no ACCRs.)
Especially if you own a carrier to store them
Uh... Janet (the one in my profile picture) doesn't own one after almost three years. How do you expect a three days old char to have an FC? (Buying the game to create Morgan ate the entire gaming funds of two months...)

As long as you don't pick up any Thargoid commodities (materials are fine) except for the MAs, you'll be fine. If you pick up enough MAs, you could also buy a Size 4 CRCR (for the Titan Drive components you need for the pre-engineered FSD).
Just keep an eye (and ear) open for the Thargoids who are also scanning through the ruins in their search (apparently) for the Bio Capsules. They left me alone (and are usually kept busy by the human NPC AX pilots), but I also made sure to keep sufficient distance.

I’d recommend an Anti-Corrosion Cargo Rack for the Meta Alloys, perhaps even Caustic Sinks, though the Titan wreckage sites may have cooled off sufficiently for the latter to be unnecessary…

CMT…? = Cobra Mark Three? :D

…sry, that TLA doesn’t ring any other bell this AM… perhaps i need more coffee still :)

MAs aren't corrosive, the wreckage sites are harmless in that respect (Sol might not be, but that would require the Sol permit, so I didn't go there).

Oh, and forgot - IIRC you might get hyperdicted when jumping into the Titan system. The ususal measures (heat sink, boost, silent running) worked for me.

Okay. Maybe that's the way to go. Cheers.

By the way, is there a way to set INARA up to read a second commander without dumping the first?
And while I'm at it, I'd like to know the same for EDSM.

Exactly. ☺️

Well, as Morgan is quite frsh, she doesn't have any of those permits.

Let's hope the unengineered CMT is able to escape them.
Though I even more hope they don't bother messing with me...

Was that changed at some point? I seem to recall that when I first went collecting them (in order to get an L4 ACCR iirc^), they burned a bit of a hole in even a rather well-reinforced Asp…

…or a ship that does 500+m/s fairly confidently :]

I was looking for an old screenshot of my SLF that I remember taking, because we were talking about SLFs, but I haven't found it yet.

However, I did find these two screenshots that I never posted, so I'm sharing them now :)

I think there needs to be huge advert signs at Prof Palin (and Chloe) along the lines of the limpets one but this time saying:

"DON'T FORGET YOUR CORROSION RESISTANT CARGO RACKS!"

I fitted two when I went titan scavenging so I had space for 4 corrosive things - let me take a heart as well as 2 drive components - I also collected 10 MAs there so I could get the thargoid bobblethngie as well as two engineered drives.

The only thing that I had to be careful of was the pirates wanting to grab my stuffz - jumping in and out a couple of times took care of that.

;)

Not that I would know of. Meta Alloys never had been caustic.

That would require some work Morgan can't do yet...
