New ship: Panther Clipper

I would like it to be a ship that made us consider how we fitted it out.
So eight class 8 slots and a single class 1 for the planetary approach suite.

That is a god awful suggestion. Just...no. What about my surface scanner, refinery, limpet controllers, SC assist etc etc?

I want it all with no compromises or no ARX for you!

As for your third point - growing your own is simple. I got fresh parsley, leeks and tomatoes right outside my window.

Not being able to use local soil--I live next to a brownfield/Superfund site whose "contaminants include metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated
biphenyls, pesticides, caustics, and plating tank sludge"--eats into enough of the savings of growing my own food that I don't bother.

Seems I can't link the pic from Bluesky cause Fdev are somehow still unaware everyone hates twitter and moved to other sites...
(unless I'm not looking at the right button but whatever)
I threw together another mock up. A bit more effort compared to the previous one I made on page... 5... I think it was page 5...? (idk I walked away and went on with my personal 3d work, sat in the sun, helped my mother and father cause they're both retired... etc. so didn't fully keep up with the conversation in this thread)

in theory the Panther Clipper's landing gear could crush whole small ships... if it was a feature... and the 3d model Fdev made doesn't change much in size.
Its pretty big... still incredibly awful looking with its "lipo suctioned" stomach and back.

What makes you believe that these numbers are halfway realistic?

Why aren't they? Nobody has yet to make a rational argument against it. Other than "muh space math" or "muh balance".

Good lord we have supertanker ships in the year 2025 that makes my numbers look like a joke. You really can't imagine that in 1,200 years we'll have cargo ships???

My view is that the fleet carriers are the super tanker equivalents in the elite universe, arguably there is an entire class of ship missing in elite, ones which can be destroyed but do not fight themselves other than to have a crap load of turretted weapons all over them, combined with fighter escorts.

visually the corvette is that kind of ship, but that still is way too maneuverable for what i would consider a super tanker to be.
i do wish they did exist, even if they were not flyable by us it would give an entire new class of mission templates to play with with escort and protect or attack and disable etc.

What I really want is a Lynx Bulk Carrier that you can control remotely like a SLF. You just fly next to a station and buy/sell your stuff and NPC do the work in 5min. A max range radius of 150ly from the ship should be fine, otherwise you lose your remote signal and the Lynx stops. Buy an entire station's goods and sell it to another station in one trip, god tier trader.

Not to be the "realism" guy, but seeing as how fleet carriers are covered from stem to stern in landing pads on both sides - they seem best suited to being just that. Fleet Carriers. They aren't purpose built for cargo hauling. We didn't have to care before or think about it, but I half expected a new class of FC to be available to us optimized for Colonization when Trailblazers went live...

when fleet carriers were 1st announced iirc there were multiple different specs of ships (not just the skins we have now but actual different ships AND support vessels.

sadly that went the way of the cutting room floor and we got a 1 ship does it all solution.

Me? I would happily take a fleet carrier with just a couple of large landing pads but specced for hauling (it would still need to carry my ships but wouldnt need the plethora of landing pads that mine has)
