Whoa nice! What region of California?I'm in California right now, visiting my grandparents. They live at the end of a pretty rural road and I am thoroughly enjoying all the birds and other wildlife in their yard. I'm sleeping outside some nights, just on a camp cot, to see and hear as much as possible.
So far -
California quail, breeding pair (so cute, my favourites of the birds here so far)
Red shouldered hawk
Great horned owl, breeding pair
Lots of hummingbirds, mixed species
Titmouse
some kind of finch, very green
turkey vultures and other birds of prey, too high up to identify
Black-tailed deer
Vole
Alligator lizard
aaaaand (@DarthQuell ) - a gray fox! I think she has a den at the back of their yard. I am giddy with excitement but I'm giving her plenty of space as she's quite skittish. What a beautiful animal.
I think I may have heard coyotes in the distance and I can certainly smell a skunk some miles away. Grandpa showed me photos of a coyote in their yard some time last year, and another time a bob cat. They often see skunks and raccoons but I haven't been so lucky yet. I'm here for another week though so, fingers crossed.
I can hear raccoons each night tantalizingly close but haven't been able to catch a glimpse of them yet. There is a lot of thick vegetation around so they may just stay too well hidden in the redwoods and cedars. They don't know how ready I am to feed them any treat they ask for.
Last time I was here, many years ago, I painted a mural on one of their patio walls - a landscape, the view from their yard. This time I'm going to paint some of the birds from their garden - the hummingbirds, an owl and I'm hoping to see the woodpecker that they say they often see, then I'll paint him too.
Great looking sculpt on this guy, although i think it could use a little more meat on those bones. Does it actually stand on its own? Looks a little front heavyJust got the Haolongood Majungasaurus, love the color of it

It does, though it can be knocked over easily, but I don't mind, I mean, look at those colors!Great looking sculpt on this guy, although i think it could use a little more meat on those bones. Does it actually stand on its own? Looks a little front heavy
Yeah, love me some bold colors on dinosaurs. They have been in brown, grey and green jail for too longIt does, though it can be knocked over easily, I mean, look at those colors!

Northern - Sonoma county. Just popped outside to see the stars and there were two young blacktail bucks right on the patio. Eating grandma's flowers, haha.Whoa nice! What region of California?

I love watching the deer. They are much shier than British deer so I am unable to get very close.

My favourites though are the California quail. They pop out from a bush they are nesting in once per day in the afternoon. If they get spooked they fly up into this walnut tree. If I could stay here an extra week I'd probably see their chicks hatch. I'm scattering sunflower seeds near their nest for them. My grandma named them Quentin and Queenie.

No way!!! Just outside of Sebastopol - just down the road! Was in Santa Rosa yesterday. Gorgeous part of the earth. My dad's side of the family. Got lots of cousins spread out all over the US but Northern California is my spiritual homeI’m from Sonoma County! Santa Rosa, to be exact. What city are you in?
Good ol’ Sebastopol. Always drive through on my way to Bodega Bay. I’m assuming you’ve been to Armstrong Woods? That might be my favorite place on Earth. I used to ditch PE in high school and go hiking there instead. lol. I think you described Sonoma County perfectly. Of all the places I’ve been, it’s my favorite. Spent my first 27 years there. I wish I still lived there and I hope I can get back one day. I’m actually in Georgia now, but I’m really close to the border. Moved here for school, that fell through and then I just got stuck. No way!!! Just outside of Sebastopol - just down the road! Was in Santa Rosa yesterday. Gorgeous part of the earth. My grandpa was a mountaineer and growing up we would go on big family camping trips in the Sierras. You're in Florida now right? Did you leave because of a job or just wanted a change?
It really is a very special place. Yes, love Armstrong woods. Redwoods have such a serious presence. My grandparents have a few redwoods in their yard and I had to go and touch one as soon as I arrived, haha. We used to go down to Bodega for a nice meal / day trip often. Haven't been this trip, they're getting older and finding it harder to drive etc. How funny to meet a neighbour on hereGood ol’ Sebastopol. Always drive through on my way to Bodega Bay. Oh wow, that is beautiful, you are very talented.I'm waiting at the airport gateI always hate leaving California!
Last night I heard the gray fox mama and her cubs in the neighbour's yard. Searched a little with the flashlight but just saw the deer (still exciting!) This morning we were visited by the pileated woodpecker.
I painted some of the garden birds on my grandparent's house. Nice of them to let me tattoo their home!

The hummingbirds were painted right by their feeder. I swear they kept hovering over my shoulder looking at their portraits while I was working on themThe big grey boxes are solar panel batteries

I find it funny how people can make something so astounding and then just brush it off as ‘mucking around’Aw thank youI'm very amateur but I love mucking about with paints. Need to do it more often
