I know and understand that this is already been discussed to death, literally thousands of times, and discussing it once again is unlikely to change anything, but...
I myself started playing ED on the PlayStation 4, and I think I played something like 1000 hours or the like, before I moved to PC in order to get Odyssey and all the latest updates. Since the split, the console version of the game has been pretty much abandoned, with no updates or anything.
I really, really think this is a huge shame. Reading the PlayStation sub-forum, there clearly is still a loyal playerbase there. But they have been completely abandoned and forgotten by the developers.
This is just a huge waste of potential. As far as I know, direct game sales are still the major revenue source from ED. Imagine if Elite Dangerous: Odyssey was ported to the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Imagine if you could play the game using the PSVR2. I think ED:O could be sold as a separate game, even if Legacy players would need to purchase it (which, in fact, wouldn't be so different from ED:Horizons owners having to purchase Odyssey separately on the PC.)
As a former ED console player, I feel for those who have kept loyal, and are still playing the game. I think interest in the game on the consoles would be greatly renewed if the current ED:O with all the current updates and the same galaxy were available. This particularly if PSVR2 support is implemented.
Would it really be such a huge amount of work to port ED:O for the PS5 and, perhaps, the Xbox Series X/S? I'm quite certain it would be quite a boost in sales.
Yes, I understand that it would be a risky business gamble: Spend copious amounts of time and money to port ED:O to the consoles in the hopes that it will sell enough to make up for it. However, I think it would be worth it.
I don't really understand why FDev is so stubbornly set on never, ever supporting the consoles again. They have no problem in supporting the consoles with PlanCo2, Jurassic World Evolution 3 and Planet Zoo. Why not Elite Dangerous: Odyssey? What's the difference? Why is this one so special that it just cannot be supported on the consoles? What exactly is the problem? You don't have any problems with those other games, so why this one exception?
If ED:O were to ever be ported to the PS5 I would definitely buy it in order to show my support. Also would actually play it there, particularly if commander data were to be shared and synced between platforms.
