DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Yes, the name of the last pack was leaked, and it's called "Pile of rocks animal pack", it contains only two animals: Rock Hyrax and Rock Ptarmigan along with the 200+ rocks and stones in different shapes and sizes.

Free update comes with new rock dynamics that let rocks tumble of off cliffs and hills onto unsuspecting park visitors 🤗
unironically this would go hard as a pack imagine
rock and roll
  • rock ptarmigan
  • rock hyrax
  • rock wallaby
  • rock cavy
  • rock lobster
plus as many rock as a terraformer could ever desire all felxicolour

I thought the Ostrich is one of the few base game animals that still holds up no?

It works like most “old” animals, but I see differences. Similarly, flamingos are doing well, but the new ones look better

I think the ostrich looks good model wise. Feathers could get a revamp with rhea feathers.

And why Frontier.. why does the flamingo have the correct body shape and wing folding but the rhea is all puff up with wings constantly semi open. Please fix the rhea. If flamingo has wings and can keep it's correct shape then so should the rhea.

While were on topic, what would you say are the basegame animals that held up the best?

From the top of my head id say the tortoises. Obviously they need to raise the max size up, but the model itself still looks pretty decent id say.
The peafowl looks real nice. And the lemurs hold up, too. Those are base game animals I use a lot.
I'd argue that the saltie is good, but I've heard folks say that the tail is off. I think the elephants and the Indian rhino hold up well, too

I would say tortoises, lemurs, Peafowl, Aardvark, Mandrill, elephants and the Greater Flamingo to an extend (obviously the new one is better but still).

I think its the female model that super stubby and weird looking.
The male isnt bad but if you look at the remaster comparission its night and day really 😄. Although i feel thats true for pretty much every remaster of the older species

Funny enough, the elephants are among them, specially the asian elephant. I think giraffes are ok as well but a bit cartoony and would benefit of better textures. The lemurs and chimps, the indian rhino, the indian peafowl (maybe a rework on the wings but i think it looks good and the animations are great), the giant tortoises are alright other than the size issues, pangolin (I'm sad we haven't got another new pangolin now that i think about it, one that can climb or at least the big terrestrial one from África), Baird's tapir, springbok, giant pand all hold up good enough.

Tbf most are usable for me with the exceptions of lion, okapi and hyena.

Oh yeah the aardvark is ok as well.

Of course once you see the comparison with the remasters for.most of the animals you can see the improvement (most of the cases), for some i can't really see much difference that justifies downloading them other than an improvement in textures and in a couple of cases i even think the base game design looks better.

Yeah, I actually have this general mindset. The orangutan looks weird, the male lion looks weird. The hyena is disappointing, I don't use the okapi enough so I can't say for sure.
I also think the gray wolf is terrible with its pyramid head; Arctic is way, way, way better. The bears aren't bad but too fat; give them a diet and have them walk around the neighborhood a couple times

I think most of the animals are good. And hot take, imo they’re all usable still. The Okapis shoulder is annoying if you pay attention too much, and if you’re looking at the Male Lion, Hyena, or Wolf too long it looks wierd but not game breaking to me. I don’t think anything looks flat out atrocious or awful the only time I thought that was the bintuwrong and Malayan tapir before they changed them. Rhea is also a little annoying but still usable imo

Edit: Female Saltie is starting to creep into unusable tbh just remembered, and the way Siamangs move is a little annoying, but again not unusable

At the risk of sounding dumb, I don't really care that some of the designs are substandard. The majority of my fun in the game is in the planning and execution of building the habitats and surrounding zoo. I don't really spend a bunch of time just watching the animals. I'd say that when I do, a much more noticeable issue is their interactions with the environment, most notably the incredibly floaty and awkward looking jumping animation -- particularly when the pathfinding decides an animal needs to jump when in reality it would easily just walk.
I agree that when you properly look at it, the Lion for example is incredibly behind compared to the more recent species, and would expect it to be fixed in a sequel, but it's not a huge priority for me
