Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Wow, has the game ever changed!

In about 4 hours I've gone from a creaking tin can Sidewinder to a fully A-rated Cobra MKV, with about 25 million credits left over.

No engineering yet, obviously. But I did get an invite from Farseer.

Back when I started playing in, er, 2016, there was no engineering. And it took me months to get into a Python, playing every day. It's amazing how much the game has been streamlined since then :)
Yeah, I recently got an alt and although i wanted, and was enjoying the start again with the low 20k-30k missions, slowly upgrading from Sidey to Hauler to Cobra etc.... with pre-knowledge of the game, its too easy to get the fast millions. Even just handing in the minimum for the past couple CGs is in the ~100m++ range.

My alt has about enough for an FC now.

"Spelled wrong," you say? It's accurate for 21st Century England. However for all the time 20th and 21st Century citizens spent squabbling over spelling, it turns out that C21 America took the long-standing spelling and it was England* that drifted.

* Yes England, not "the UK" or any "Britain" variant, although even the definition of "England" changes pretty radically during the history of written English when you look at it here in 3311.
Hey, you guys invented the language and it's considered universal especially in the business world.

Anyway, maybe this will cheer you up, 4 Brits banging out boogie woogie at the same time on one piano, pretty cool.

Just logged in. I'm heading to the CG but it took an age to find a free slot for the carrier - had to find a system out of Beta-3 Tucani itself to get anywhere near close *. Could've taken just a ship but I'm in no rush.

* What is the limit per body/object in a system for a carrier destination?

Carrier Fund Trip...

Finally got to 1B credits (Expl Buddy estimate) on this current trip. Started on June 2.

Now about 15kLy out, though I haven't gone in a straight line, so it's likely pushing 20KLy.

FSS every system jump, DSS all high value bodies, set Buddy for minimum exo value to 40M so if it's lower than that it won't show a money bag. BUT, Buddy says it's only a POSSIBILITY. You got that right! It usually is the lower value species!

The last 300+ jumps all first discovery. Even found a Nonhuman signature Guardian site to top up my Sensor Fragments. I have forgotten when was the last time I jumped to a system somebody has already been there. Everything is First Footfall for awhile now. Even got a little bored and decided to top up some Materials at Geological sites.

One problem...Stratum has been very...elusive! In this area, it's rare that I find any. I expected quite a bit more by now considering how many system jumps I've made. Stratum Tectonicus is so far maybe every 75 jumps. That stuff is RARE in these parts!

I'm only plotting fuel star systems, though an occasional L or T gets in the mix.

Been staying on the fringe of where the player traffic seems to be, according to Elite Dangerous Astrometrics. So far, it's not paying off. ROI has been terrible!

I can make more faster in the Bubble with Spansh and scanning Tectonicus that's 19M. My trial run in the Bubble I made 1B credits in about 4 days on Stratum Tec that had already been scanned without risks of being out in the back 40.

At the current rate, it will take about 5 months of gameplay (2-3 hours a day) to earn 5B on this trip. That has to change.

I need a new plan.

Yes, last time I was out exploring, ST's were very elusive indeed. I'm wondering if a stealth change has been implemented.

Maybe. Could be luck of the draw where I'm at, but I'm having my doubts.

Going to try setting my route to fuel efficient for shorter jumps and more stops same distance, check more systems in a smaller area. For distance I'm jumping up to 77Ly, which means I pass by A LOT of systems.

I didn't even realise there was a limit.
The limit is 16 carriers per body in the system, that there is a limit is why FC owners can blockade Rackhams Peak(?) as there is a point on the route where there is only a single star in a gap of over 500Ly.

The limit is tied into the xxbit number used to identify locations, part of why carrier jumps take time.

Yes, if you're just after credits then exploring/exobiology is going to be a bit hit-or-miss. If you stick to it you'll wind up having some days/weeks when you make a ton, and some days/weeks when you don't find much. It won't be a consistent, forecastable income.

You'll still get there, and in a lot less than 5 months, but it won't be predictable.

For predictable income you need something like laser mining for platinum, or stacking pirate massacre missions. Something that earns a consistent amount each time you play, with less randomness.

The downside, of course, is that any method with less randomness will also be less interesting, and more boring.

For me personally, I'd go with less predictable and more enjoyable. But I'm (almost) never in a rush. I've been playing for years and years, and I expect to still be playing for many years more. There's no need to acquire anything immediately. I try to enjoy the journey. :p

Maybe you can mix it up a bit and use more than one form of income gathering, to keep yourself from going mad. "The grind is in the mind" as they say!

Um... currently in a drop ship en route to a GCZ for the CG. I haven't signed up yet - can I do the zone, then sign up, then hand in? And where do I sign up, again?
I signed up from my ship at the main station mission board - then played on the ground. Bonds appeared after each GCZ in transactions as usual, though didn’t appear as contributions to the CG until after a relog. If you redeem bonds after signing up they should hopefully count as CG contributions?

I signed up, then handed in the bonds. The logged. No contribution. Going to another CZ to see if gathering the bonds after signing up then handing in works.

Weird. I usually just sign up at any random mission board before heading to the CG.
Yeah, the most I've ever seen is 16 in a group.

Some only one group, others multiple groups but the most in a group seems to be 16. Not sure of the limit to how many groups to a given location. I've seen groups of 4-5 at most near ports or bodies.

Thanks.

And I wasn't aware of the blockade thing. Interesting. It's a shame carriers are invincible otherwise you could launch a full scale Rebel Alliance attack to remove the blockade.

Strat Tech is not the only high value exobiology sample. I made about 850 million on my last trip Sag A* back to the bubble using KGBFOAM stars and even neutron highway stars and going to any planet with at least 3 signals and scanning whatever was easy to find there. I mostly ignored bacteria as it s rarely worth much. All first footfall planets.

Same with exploration - if you try to target only Earthlike, Water and Ammonia worlds you miss the bread and butter - the High Metal Content worlds which are common and still worth maybe 2/3rds what a water world is worth.
