New ship: Panther Clipper

ED is not a sim: Here is its marketing description:

Elite Dangerous is the definitive massively multiplayer space epic, bringing gaming’s original open world adventure to the modern generation with a connected galaxy, evolving narrative and the entirety of the Milky Way re-created at its full galactic proportions.

Starting with only a small starship and a few credits, players do whatever it takes to earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to survive in a futuristic cutthroat galaxy and to stand among the ranks of the iconic Elite. In an age of galactic superpowers and interstellar war, every player’s story influences the unique connected gaming experience and handcrafted evolving narrative. Governments fall, battles are lost and won, and humanity’s frontier is reshaped, all by players’ actions.

No mention of sim anywhere...

It is a semi-arcade sci-fi game with no claim to reality outside of the size of the game world (Mily Way sized)

Semantics, and marketing materials are usually weird, for everything ;)
The Game simulates environment very well (Stellar Forge is the best), but it is "space sim" in the game meaning. How to show realistic future?
The same wih MMO... I know... it is called MMO, but it isn't usual MMO...

I preffer to play the game than words in this case tbh :)

I said engineering. I'm talking about ship design and manufacturing. Not people working together to work around an inadequacy.

There's nothing realistic about the Panther Clipper in a universe where Capital ships and fleet carriers already exist. It just doesn't carry enough tonnage for it's large size given that it's supposedly specialized for that task.
I suppose we have to agree to disagree. it excels at its specialized task better than any other ship also specialized for that task.

Imagine these guys thinking they're playing a "simulator". A sim? Jumping INSTANTLY between stars? LOL right, okay.

I cannie keep up, 30 or more pages have written since yesterday. Amazing.

So, can the new specialized storage racks be installed on the remaining size 7 and 8 slot? Or can they be only be installed on the specialized size 7 and 8 slots?

I really wish they weren't so cryptic during the interview. Did they actually say these racks are 50% larger than standard racks, the only time i thought I heard the word 50% was when he referred to the total cargo space. Something like- It can haul almost 50% more than current haulers. I don't think they actually said which hauler. Idk it felt like 20 mins of words but very little was stated.

I'm sure it will be a decent ship, at the end someone referred to it as the legendary ship it deserves to be, idk it really sounded to me more like satisfactory. Like I use to get on my report cards when I was in grade school, meaning ya good enough. The original PC is legendary, this iteration not so much. Oh it's good, but I would slap a legendary label on it.

Will I get one, ya I will. Am I as excited for it as I was, gees not so much. I'm sure in the next month long wait my thoughts may wane. And gosh they stated for colonization that's another month wait for Arx and what another 5 months wait for credits. Colonization will be going on almost a year old by then.

Sorry for not being ecstatic, the wind has been taken from my sails a bit. Stoopid hype! lol

Reasonably armed? Outside of mining I'm not sure what we're supposed to do with 4 small hardpoints. You going to be lining up railguns with this wallowing space beast? lol please!
It depends where they are, and who you are fighting. If its a bendy rando NPC 4 small, 4 medium and 2 large are plenty. And against a player, shooting back is a waste of time.

You bring up a good point. This ship could have been a viable option for those without a fleet carrier to participate in colonization. What a missed opportunity for FDEV. I mean I'm just complaining but I'm not going to lose sleep, it's FDEV that just missed out on a lot of money. You guys are doing victory laps and dunking on us now, yeah have your fun. Just remember this moment next time you complain that Elite isn't progressing fast enough...
You do understand that no ship should be an I WIN colonisation / Powerplay button, right? Last time I checked the flying part of ED was the game, not trying to avoid it.

Well why not shoot for the moon and ask for 3000+ cargo? Or 5000?
And I said 6k or no deal. Why not?

I knew, just as others here did, that FD would never break out of their mould and do something different enough to be called radical, balance must be maintained.

I don't mind, as I hadn't convinced myself that my wishes would be made real, and I've saved real money as this is the first ship I won't be buying on release day.

You're right, fair enough.
The wording of the game description hasn't changed much (my memory isn't that infallible) since I bought the game in 2017, but I have no idea of how it was initially marketed.
The original Elite didn't claim sim qualities, but was amazing for its time!
It still has traditionally tried to keep to a certain set of logic.
Yes, it has - although at times such logic has be, shall we say "Interesting", when the FDL was the most unbalanced ship in the game for years. (no complaints here, brilliant ship)
The magic cargo racks are already breaking that some (and I suspect that was added later to artificially increase its capacity based on community sentiment, just a hunch)
Breaking it a lot, I think, but there have been enough theories put forward how (and possibly why) they may have developed. But, in an arcade-like game, anything is possible.
I see no reason to break that logic even more.
I see plenty of reasons, but they are entirely my own - just as other player types see plenty of reasons to have the game adjusted to their preferences - we are no different in that manner, after all.

True, if it were going for true realism we'd be flying our ships via instruments not visual line of sight.
A lot of humans tend to like to be able to see out so even if it made no sense there would probably be windows but not the enormous things we get in Elite.

I was wondering: are recent ships findable in broken state on the surface of planets or are we still stuck with the same wreckage archetypes (with only few exterior hatches to crack open) since Odyssey?

Wondering because with the Panther it would be the best time to add explorable wreckage of it, and by extension of the other ships eventually. I mean sure not fully explorable but at least key parts of it like the bridge and the rear cargo bay. for example.

not sure if deliberate but you are sounding really arrogant!. it isnt that i want to dunk on anyone and god knows i have had plenty to complain about in the game over the years.... i just dont want 1 ship which is so much better than any other ship in the game that it is essentially playing a different ball game!.

power creep is inevitable in any long term RPG (that said not everyone agrees, some here believe there should be NO creep at all). Me personally i am fine with slight improvements over time. but 200%+ jump is not a slight improvement!. IMO your issue should not be with the PC II capacity (btw a ship i am looking forward to adding to the stable) but you should be complaining about the numbers for colonisation . I am not saying I agree or disagree there but its a separate complaint imo. solo colonisation is the only area where a 3000t capacity would ever be needed imo.

that range on a trade CG would have you at elite trade in 1 CG,....... and i just do not think that would be good for the games longevity, and indeed it is because i want the game to still be trucking along why i do not think FD should dial the numbers up to 11 right away.

he can ask for what ever he wants..... but going off on one at players who didnt want a capacity that big and blaming them for the games inevitable demise due to what a failure the PC is now it is only a 50% increase on the next largest hauler in the game sounds a stretch to me.

but if that is the hill he wants to die on that is fine....... i had one too once, my toys flew out of the pram at the thought of Ody dropping VR.

however my reply was a simple statement of fact, there was no judgement behind it. (my other reply may have had a small amount of judgement behind it however :D )

I think comparing vocal disappointment and vocal praise should be taken with a grain of salt, it will always be lopsided towards the vocal disappointment since humans are far more likely to complain about a small disappointment than they would be to vocally praise a small bit of excitement. The wild expectations also played a huge role in exacerbating the disappointment. In the end, Game balance >>>> Meeting player's expectations in my book.

Well since colonisation started there have been many new systems so obviously the amount of materials should be higher so that it takes months of hauling to complete . So that you need that same amount of journeys with the PC2 ??
