Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi All :)

Well...it's a no brainer, My Panther fully armed (mostly engineered at this point), Shield Boosters, SRV rack, etc etc yadda yadda, gives me about the max cargo of my unshielded cutter (over 760t), it's more nimble and has a jump range of around 40ly which is more or less good enough for what I need as a 'local' trading ship.
I've yet to fine tune some of the modules, and I can strip down some of my other unused ships (which I'm doing periodically and selling them off) to get some more engineered stuff that will lighten it up a bit more and generally give me better overall statistics.
I'm going to fit a pre-engineered SCO drive soon so I presume that's going to give me a bit more jump distance, so in short the Panther wasn't a disappointment. As for using it for Colonisation I suppose I can see the argument for a larger cargo capacity, but as I've put that feature on hold for now (it's become tedious* quite frankly, and the feature still needs some TLC imho.) that's not an issue for me.

I've now got a trader that's tough, has a good cargo capacity and is reasonably manoeuvrable so it's
Heh!...and the 'easter egg' in the ship (can you spot it?) was I thought a nice touch from the designers, it's present in the credit bought one as well so it's not limited to the stellar version. Whether that's going to be available for a limited time I'm not sure.

  • Edit...I'm just generally 'burnt out' with Colonisation so it's a personal thing btw. ;)
  • Edit...Rebuy cost of this ship is 49 million! 🫨...

rinky-dink Panther
Now I want to name my Panther "Rinky Dink", lol.
It's funny how the first one can be dropped to "deploy" in some random station one visits... with some kind of shopping bag icon against it in the manage ships' scrolling pictures at the bottom... presumably costs no in-game credits?
Yes, you can sell it back and redeploy it elsewhere, too. No credits needed. Of course if you change any modules or do any engineering, that stuff gets lost. But you always have this one deployable one. You can buy more with credits. It is kinda weird.

I'm doing mining today, in a lovely metal-rich ring. I need a buncha credits and merits. Mining helps with both :)

That's why with the stellar one I bought initially it's gone into 'moth balls' mode...I've not bought a 'stellar' version of a ship before so this Early access purchase with Arx is a kinda new experience, I'll probably use it for some 'open' play, not having to do an expensive re-buy (which I can predict is going to be often!).
I like to tinker around with the engineering stuff, but I don't want to be confronted with 49 million re-buys, that's not (as far as I can see) going to happen in solo play...probably, so this credit buy version is more

I've gotten my ship to a human tech broker...but forgot to take a Titan drive component with me ...I've called up my carrier (with those Titan components) to ronde Vue with me in this system so....🤷‍♂️

Ah, mining....
Do you prefer certain aspects of mining to others?...I tend to look for metallic ring mining most of the time, that's because there's usually a bigger selection of metals and minerals in those like platinum, osmium, palladium, gold and silver. In the outer rings there's obviously other stuff but usually you can also find some of the other rarer or more high saleable stuff in the metallic rings.
Though there's still the pot luck aspect to the hotspots in general ...hotspots stating one kind of metal / mineral present but when you actually scan for those deep core asteroids more often something completely different shows up...🤷‍♂️

Yeah...🤔...I personally find that in metallic rings the prediction rate is more constant, and if you do scan for deep core asteroids in platinum hotpots that's more often what you find...deep core platinum. 🤷‍♂️

What are these dark clouds in the middle of an otherwise brightly lit (on the sunny side of the planet) planetary ring supposed to be?

In other news, bought my Panther Clipper. Its a monster. Lovely looking, jumps well, SCO optimised, carries 1230+ tons.

Also has 10 hardpoints for my low distro low power cargo build, so I can put 10 missile racks. Fun.

And it handles (pitch/yaw overall) at least as well as the Cutter.

I have to admit, I clipped it on my maiden boost out the slot... think the cockpit view needs to be closer to the slot ceiling compared to the Cutter. (i had mental images of Galaxy Quest, when they first took the ship out of spacedock and scratched it).

I updated the Nvidia driver yesterday and the forum colours are very dull. Though images are fine, as are other sites.

I don't like it.

I've also not been on for a few days so the game will probably take an hour to load later with the new driver. My T8 needs to make another run in the CG. I won't let them take my 50% away from me.

Not really. I got into mining way back when it was the big thing, when void opals and low temp diamonds were selling for insane amounts, and the hotspots actually worked and meant something. Back when subsurface mining was actually worth doing. I made most of the money to buy my carrier by mining.

But it's no longer nearly as fun or exciting, because they nerfed the heck out of it and made it bland. I know they were trying to balance it, but what they actually did was sort of ruin it. It was a fantastic system in the beginning, when all the parts worked. Now...not so much.

I still enjoy being out there, but my goal now is different.

The last few weeks I've been mostly core mining for Monazite, because I'm "mining for merits" and that puts certain constraints on where you can mine, and where you can sell.

It turns out that the "best" thing to mine changes, depending on which systems are in play that week. To get the most merits, you have to mine in a fortified or stronghold system, and sell to a contested system (within 20LY), and you have to get a very high price when you sell. You get credits and merits, and it all works out nicely. Monazite has been having a run of very high prices, so that's what I've been mining.

The actual process of core mining hasn't changed much -- find the cores, crack them open, blast off the good bits. It's enjoyable, and gives me a chance to do a lot of 3D maneuvering in my ship, which I do find fun. The Corsair is a bit of a brick, the way it flies, but I'm getting used to it.

I also like laser mining -- it's less complex and more relaxing -- but lately it hasn't been a good option for gaining merits.

I don't go for really long mining sessions these days. An hour, maybe 2, then I'm off to do other stuff.

That. Cores are persistent for some time (I think a few days, but don't quote me on that)
Yes, 6 days before they reset. This is different than laser mining. Those asteroids are replenished 3 hours after you chipped off the first fragment, so you can mine it again, provided that you have re-entered the ring instance (or relogged) at least once.

A Question here....Do the asteroids that have been core mined (As in blown up) show whether you're in solo or open?
As in if some other player in open has blown up those asteroids, do they then show up in the same (Ring / system) for another player in solo?

I usually mine stuff outside the bubble in solo so I never meet other players in the same system / rings, so I don't usually see any other asteroids mined by other players, whether I'm in solo or open. I see my own exploded asteroids that persist in the rings for a period of time afterwards as normal.
I presume that if I were to play in an area in a popular mining area frequented by other players then these mined / blown up asteroids would be visible whether I was in solo or open.?

What am I doing....I'm still engineering up my 2nd Panther Clipper, I've fitted that pre-engineered sco drive from the human tec brokers, which added another 1. something light years, so the total jump range is something like 43ly roughly. I'll be visiting some of those engineers today to add experimental affects to some of the modules. It takes a fair bit of time to do these upgrades don't it!..😩...:D, I should be able to add a smidgin more to the jump range and beef up some other modules too.
Servers are still down at the moment so time to get some breakfast and ☕

As far as I know cores are panmodal and independent from instancing (see below).

I usually mine stuff outside the bubble in solo so I never meet other players in the same system / rings, so I don't usually see any other asteroids mined by other players, whether I'm in solo or open. I usually mine in Solo, and I have encountered dusty remains of cracked rocks in the past. So that would indicate that modes are irrelevant.

Hey everyone, just to say hello while i'm playing more and more rarely these days because stuff. Well, I had a few spare hours yesterday to run ED so I jumped back to civilisation and switched the AspX for the Mandalay I've never tried before. Nice bird this one too, and I could basically put all my explo upgrades from one to the other.
o7 everyone

Welcome back!

Just an FYI to all:

I thought I was going mad but it does seem like there's a new bug/feature...

Hi :)

Welcome back to the mad house....🤪....
Edit ...I'm also just switching engineered modules from one ship to the next, storing spare engineered ones and selling off ships I really no longer use. My T10, 2nd spare Cutter and soon a stripped out Anaconda all gone or going to the breakers yard....it's almost driving me nuts keeping track of my stored and in ship modules. 🥴
Next up is my Fer-De-Lance, hardly ever used it but it's modules are all A class engineered to the max.

Incidentally...how many modules can you store in one place now?...I'm thinking it's 300....Help! 😱...okay it's more than that.

You can store a total of 600 modules, to the best of my limited knowledge there isn’t a per station limit for modules.

Of course if you are running out of module storage you could start rebuying ships and fitting your excess modules on them.

Ah!...right!...I had a feeling that the amount had been enlarged at sometime but I wasn't sure. (y)
Yeah, I've been storing modules by buying extra ships to put them in but it's getting ridiculous now, having roughly 20 or so ships that are just module storage lockers!
Okay, getting rid of the ships is no problem, it's the growing list of engineered modules that's starting to confuse me.
I've just created a new topic on the *Suggestions forum regarding an 'engineered module dealer' which will probably go down like a lead balloon ..but I thought it worth a try. :ROFLMAO:
Edited... added *Suggestions.
