ARX Ship Early Access Update

Hi :)
@Blaggerdy ...Quote.."To prong or not to prong"

I'd like the prong to be telescopic, with a flag you could stick on the end to denote your faction (if any) or some heraldic motif, so Panther Clipper owners (no actual current weapons allowed) could have jousting matches!....

Jack :)

I thought I saw one of my squadron in a heraldic-style repaint Vulture - can't see it in the store though.

edit: Aha ... found a pic of a Vulture Noble repaint on the interwebnetthingie:

Its time to increase the arx weekly cap,400 is too low even for a f2p game.

With increasing prices already before, and now again,it needs to be adjusted.
Playing the game for a month, capping arx should afford you 1 cheapest skin at least.

The most sensible thing to do for FDEV would actually be to stop handing out free ARX at all. In a way, they already got that idea by cancelling the generous ARXmas event. So with 400 we already get more than what we should reasonably expect.

Honestly I'd agree. It's neither here nor there, and my experience last night was once again through varied gameplay for 3 or so hours I earned a paltry 60 Arx. Yeah Frontier you may as well stick those where Sol don't shine.

Did they ever outright say that they are no longer doing it?

Because we had the whole Titan thing going just before that, and you were awarded ARX for shooting their pineapple too. So I didn’t find it far-fetched they passed on it last year for that reason.

It would not be wise to come up-front and say that they will never do it again, would it? This way they can observe the market and react on potential misbehavior with a return of the carrot. Of course they would want to maximize incentive to actually give them money for the new ships, not just play-time. Although loyalty is important, it won't pay the bills.

Why?
"As part of the update to the livery system and the introduction of Arx, commanders will be able to acquire cosmetic items by simply playing the game! We won't ask commanders to change how they play, simply being an active player and engaging with the game is all that's required. A number of Arx can be earned each week and will be instantly added to a player's Arx balance and can be spent there and then, or saved for later. "
I am also aware that it was also said
"ARX will only be used for Game Extras/Cosmetics. So, all merchandise, games and DLC will continue to use real-world currency." so you can take what you will.
I think the idea was to give you the ability at the time to get some arx not enough to get what you wanted and then top up with paid content ?
I think the amount of arx being bought is the same but the amount of people buying arx has dropped.

I did find it funny that 6yrs ago when frontier points were dropped for arx a player did say buying ships for arx will become a thing

Look at the ship roster: we already have lots of small and medium ships, far less large. We need more large ships please.

To what quoted sentence goes the "why"?
If it is the first, then the answer is that free ARX are lost money for them. If it is the second, the answer is that cancelling the free extra ARX clearly shows that they felt it to be too much charity if they want to make money with ARX, especially on top of that free ARX for Thargoid slashing. If it is the last, the answer is because the premise changed. It is not about cosmetics anymore. So if they already nullified some of their previous statements (ARX are not used only for cosmetics anymore, and no, pre-built ships are not just "extras"), why stick to them in the search for intentions? The P2W slider got pushed a bit higher, so we should expect to pay more. That there still is free ARX from playing is honestly surprising me. I would have expected it to dry out silently to a point where you don't get any at all.

That player 6 years ago simply predicted a pretty obvious outcome of games venturing into P2W: that there will only be more of it with time. In the case of Elite though, I think P2W is a good thing. YMMV

I do apologise the why was for losing the free arx? They lose nothing giving to the players who have the thought ive got 4800 ( for a year) arx £3 isnt much to get that paintjob that was made 6 years ago ? in fact they would have made £3 .
Cancelling free arx may well have a detrimental effect since some may see it about fleecing the customer and possibly losing trust just recently gained ?
As to pay to win ? This depends on your definition of P2W ? For me its a bad thing but as i have said before for me Elite is a long term game many of its loops are there to bring you all the games iterations and the devs spent a long time doing fabulous amazing stuff that many will never do because ive got a wad of money ? and then complain the game is boring .

I'm just picking this out of the string of posts on the topic, not necessarily replying to just the one, but...

The PR attached to the free ARX seems obvious to me. It would look bad to reduce the amount they're giving out or to raise the price of ARX in the store, so they raised the price of the items significantly instead. I've always felt the removal of many of the paint to be connected to this reasoning as well. Aside from having less options to help direct people to whatever FOMO marketing they're using for some newer item, they removed any that would clog up the store with items that "aren't worth the new price", which also look bad. It's sad that it all works, but it works.
