General / Off-Topic tonight's Project

I have had an ambition to one day make this :

I have Lego Mindstorms. It is fun but oddly enough I found it rather limiting, there was so much more I wanted to do with it that it was not able to but programming robots is serious fun.

TONIGHT'S PROJECT

I will be rebuilding my PC from Win7 32bit to Win7 Ultimate 64bit.

I dont know why I havnt done this before as ive had the software for a couple of years now. I think i will need to strip the 4GB memory out of my old system and add it to my new system, until i can get the funds for more memory.

System rebuilt with 64bit drivers and so far everything appears to be in place, unfortunately after opening my old PC I discovered that instead of 2 2gb stick I found that I had 4 1gb sticks,

just need to reinstall photoshop and im ready to go, next step installing 16gb Ram courtesy of Psykokow.

<nods - glances at his own Cooler Master Elite case> An excellent budget case!

its a dam fine case, enough slots for everything.

4x 1TB drives

yet to be installed 16gb DDR3 memory
700watt psu
Quad core i5 CPU
ASUS Nvidia 570

its enough to run all current games at max resolution with no slow down.

im hoping its enough to run the Cryengine 4 for when star citizen comes out.

ah well at least i got the size right :D

i can see the difference now, the 35 only has one fan grill at the top, nice set up though - matched board/card combo as well, always advisable imo.

the DF's are a nice case - i've got the 85 myself but with all those fans on full it sounds like concord taking off, still i miss the noise - thanks to one of my cats i've not had the beast running for a few months and not having much luck with the replacement hardware.

the power supply i bought turned out to be DOA and the MB turned up sans retail box and accessories pack - to top it off there is a good chance i didn't need the MB as i tested the old one with the dead psu :(

Heh... I have an older Asus mobo, a first-gen quad-core i5, 8GB DDR3 RAM, an ancient WD HDD, a Cooler Master PSU and an Nvidia GTX 550Ti in mine. All built on a strict budget, and it performs pretty damn good!

my first board was an ASUS A7v kt133, last i heard it had a 1.2ghz cpu in it and was still being used as a basic surf/email pc.

my current tower is an ASUS Crosshair Formula V Thunderbolt with a 3.6ghz FX-8 cpu - runs like a dream, sounds like an aircraft taking off when it's booting, been stuck on a duel core lappy since christmas :(

OMG! You have to post a pic of the 4000

Oh this isn't the first time  I have had to perform surgery on it Kerrash. There is always something!

I have a Cooler Master case too for my PC, lots of room for goodies. I must say Mobius, that looks to be a damn fine machine your building there.

This is my "beast" machine setup:

Antec VSK 2000 tower case

Corsair 950w TX power supply

Biostar TA990FXE socket AM3+ motherboard

AMD phenom II x6 (6 core) processor

4Gb of DDR3 1333Mhz Ram

Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme heatsink + fan

Twin Zotec Nvidia GTX 260 graphics cards

:D

OMG! You have to post a pic of the 4000 I wanted one so bad when I was a kid.
*green with envy* :D

EDIT: In fact I still want one, I'll gladly nurse it back to health for you ;)

I wonder how many people here still have Amigas. I have an A4000 sitting behind me in a custom tower :)
I really need to upgrade and get a pc at some point - if nothing else in order to play Elite :)

I must get my friends to take some snaps of their own miggys at some point.

Woah! Do you really need nearly a KW PSU to run that!?

Well if you are going to upgrade and no longer need that 4000...

I originally had a 750w PSU in it, but that burnt out because I used the machine for protein folding - folding@home - running at full 24/7

Wow. So... central heating is permanently off in your house, then?

In the summer I have to put a desk fan next to mine to clear all the hot air away :\

Yup, it did heat the house up. ;)

Then I found out how much it was actually drawing (about 500w) and how much that was costing me, so it's been off since the new year.

:D
