gamma 1.01 broke DK2 support

I really thought by now they would have fixed it... Maybe they're future proofing the code for the secret CV1 :D

They're probably waiting for some other fixes to be ready before releasing a patch. As it isn't stopping people from playing entirely, I doubt this is the number one priority, as frustrating as it is for Rifters.

Yeah, I played in direct but the right eye problem was still there, I just forced myself to ignore it best I could. What I did like though was that the judder I had in port playing in extended was all but gone in direct. That, and just as I see in other games using direct, my GPU barely breaks a sweat compared to monitor or extended work. I never went over 51c with my 7970 tonight and the norm for it is about 63c when playing on a monitor or in direct mode. WIN.

I tried direct mode now, and while the framerate is smooth (steady at 75 fps), it's unplayable due to a weird sort of lag. It's like there are two separate images, both smooth, but lagging behind one another. The faster I move my head, the more separated they become. When I stop moving, they fuse together to one image. The same thing happens if I close one eye, so it has nothing to do with the separate images that are rendered. In extended mode it's all gone, and smooth as silk (fps 75-150, everything on high).

I've noticed this too, and thought this might be because the Rift doens't use low persistence. Have you tried setting your primary display on a 75 hz resolution before starting to play the game in direct mode on rift? I've stopped playing waiting to get the Rift bug fixed...

"gamma 1.01 broke DK2 support"

This is the definition of sadness :(

Please fix it!

I don't want to play on a tasteless screen, even if it is a 27" 3D + Track IR :/

I hope we will be back IN the game soon, and stop just playing it.

Same here :(

Thanks for the tip, but it's still the same. Also, performance is worse in DM, as fps drops to 37.5. So for now, extended mode is still the way to go for me. Strange that our DM mileage varies so much, with some getting better performance and no lag, while it's unplayable for others. I'm looking forward to when they get it sorted out, and DM just works. It'll probably happen around CV release time.

My understanding is the screen they use for the DK2, when pixels turn off to get a pure black, when they turn back on, the green part of the pixels are slower to respond then the red and blue causing that kind of shadow ghosting thet people see.

That is what the low persistence mode is supposed to do, allow the pixels to get as dark as possible without switching to a completely "off" state.

It sounds like it has somehow gotten out of low persistence mode and is causing this.

I am pretty confident that they will patch this before dreamhack starts. There's suppose to be a ED stand there show casing it on the rift, so it's in the devs best intrests to do their best to find a solution to get it working again.

Frontier please fix this soon as possible, i have never played ed whitout the rift and just by using the monitor im having massive difficulties just to get my ship in to the landing pad :D
Haha.really....well,how is the text readable in oculus.I have an oculus rift dk2 as well, its awesome for battles etc.but when reading text its kinda bad.Have to reset the oculus when i sit about half a meter further away from the desk, then after reset i get back so i can readd it better.Any problems here?

im downscaling from 1440x2560 and i do not have any problems reading the text at any point, i had minor difficulties first but when i corrected the ipd value in the confic file that made a big difference for me.

Perhaps you need to change the lens in your dk2 mate? Im not having those issues, I can read the text fine. Of course it cbb.

Text is readable for me too, and that's without DSR enabled. It's not absolutely clear, like it is on a monitor but it is readable. I know you've probably checked this too, but I found that one of the patches changed my resolution (I think) and it wasn't running in 1080p anymore. Then the text was illegible. Always worth checking.

I played about 2 hours last night and found I could do fine even with the current "right eye" bug. It didn't affect space itself, so it was only annoying when admiring my cockpit or the interior of a station.

It's worth making sure you have the latest Oculus drivers installed, just so we can all say we're using the same drivers, just in case it makes a difference.

I find the text hard to read in places (numbers 6, 8, 9, and 0 all look very similar to me) but I find that if I lean closer with a DK2 it does help a bit. It's stuff that I need to be able to read in a hurry that affects me the most. When I am using "cycle next/prev subtarget" that I have huge issues because obviously I'm in combat and trying to select the subtarget I want as quickly as possible with very small letters on the screen!

I'd say that for anyone who has anti-aliasing enabled on the DK2 and finding text hard to read, try disabling it, as despite the "jaggies", you might find it easier to read. You can also "force" a different method of anti-aliasing through your graphic card's control panel, as they all work differently and some might work better than others, despite a heavier frame rate impact.

The one problem that really bugs me is that the cockpit UI panels disappear if you get too close! Suppose I have the transactions panel (left side, 2nd one along) open because I want to check my current mission, and I move close enough so that the text becomes legible. The entire panel disappears! I have to move my head far enough away that it's visible, and if I do that, the text is small and I can't read it! Anyone else have this? Is it a bug, or meant to be like that?

There seems to be a general text reading issue for some people on Rift in ED. I wonder if it's related to use of ATI cards or something? Most people here I see are using NDIVIA cards.

Personally I've tried changing IPD, using different lenses, changing the distance, switching graphics to low, switching it to high, switching off AA, changing AA, changing various other settings. It doesn't seem to make a huge difference. The only thing that does is if I physically hold the rift about 2 - 3 inches away from my face. Then I can see the text OK but obviously that's not very practical. Otherwise after an hour or two with the rift on my eyes are really tired and sore. It's almost as if it just isn't focused.

Ideally we would have settings in game, sliders and so on for adjusting things in a very easy way, allowing us to see the result as we do it. At the moment I have to go out of game to the configuration utility to adjust Rift settings and the settings I can adjust in game take me to a different screen and don't get modified until I click "apply". I'm not sure it even is the game anyway. There aren't that many settings you can change in the Rift to set it right.
