Sagittarius A* ["supermassive" spoilers]

Good job.

Unfortunately, as others have highlighted, the fact that someone managed to reach the centre of the galaxy in a relatively short period of time without needing any form of assistance really shows how shallow the exploration mechanics in the game are at the moment. Even worse is finding random NPCs there wandering around aimlessly.

They should have kept the galaxy restrained until it was "ready".

Yeah, I was expecting it to take at least a solid month of continuous game time.

This guy did it in 2 weeks of REAL time... even if he pulled 18 hour days every day since gamma launch that is still far quicker than it should have been.

It's not "when," it's always "if." It's always hope, never expectation.

I don't even know if the Server Error problem that prevents me from leaving my present system and kicks me out of the game every 5 minutes is ever going to go away.

Congratulations nice one.

maybe you know some one with a more stable connection to land your ship.
dough I suspect not your connection is the issue here.

guess you wont sell this ship ever!
it should be titled first ever.

Anyway, fabulous job getting to the centre! I suppose the next task to to go to the outer reaches of the galaxy.

Without detracting from the OP's achievement one bit I have to agree. Exploration has never appealed to me (I always though of it as a way to make 1K here or there) and now it appeals even less. This is a core dynamic that needs a lot more work.

Wow it only took you a little more then a week. Who would have thought so.

Me.

Or to paraphrase myself, "oh, I really hope there's some kind of limit that prevents this happening, otherwise the more fanatical people out there will do it within a few days of release." But good going to the OP anyway!

Problem with exploration is, IF it actually worked like in the DDF proposed..with scanning...errors...failjumps...probes ETC. Then it wouldn't just be a 50 - 60 hour grind but an actual challenge.
Remember that development of the game doesn't end on the 16th. Take a look through the DDA and you will see many examples of features that won't make the cut on the 16th. That doesn't mean aren't still planned however.

Unfortunately, it will be a shame as commanders will potential be able to travel further and faster before the planned features that will limit this speed of exploration.

Congrats to the OP, but this really highlights some serious design issues for me. The DDA articles are great as a whole, but I think the current implementation breaks minimum viable feature set for exploration.

If the concern about exploration is based on having less to discover I believe someone said this date decays over time? Did I just make that up as I'm sure I read something like that. To be fair though even if it didn't there is going to be plenty to explore.

If it is more regarding how easy it is to make massive amounts of money from exploration, that was always likely to be the case. Just as making massive amounts of money from trading if you have the right equipment.

wot no restaurant

@Zion Ravescene
What a brilliant journey you must have had - thank you for taking 'testing' as far as you did for us all - great job
:) +1 for recording and reporting your efforts cmdr

I have to say tho it's not on my bucket list any more as I expected it would take longer and have a little more glamour to it instead of warping beige!

Hopefully FD will throw (tweak/add/imagine) many more surprises for any intrepid explorer after game launch based on your effort and experience. I guess the NPC's have as much right to be there as you but shouldn't there be a restaurant to sit and ponder, maybe plan where to go next with fellow 'beings' that made it there?
:D

anything's possible and legit FD... this explorer got to the centre of the universe before he left for it after all.. relatively speaking (-:

Wow the galaxy isn't as big as I thought.. How many jumps was that?

Oh and congrats! :D .. though I am a bit disappointed it was reached so fast. I didn't think anyone would get there in years :p

and then to arrive there, the blackhole that holds together a galaxy....to find it has no gravity LOL JUST LOLOLOL!!!!!

As said before, the black hole doesn't hold the galaxy together, we just orbit it. Every object's gravity (plus mostly dark matter) is what holds it all together.

Also a black hole of that size would have a pretty good force of gravity distribution, it wouldn't pull an object in as fast as a small one would.

Any black hole would suck stuff in no matter it's size it is what they do, well not the ones in game but you get my drift.
There is no way you could sit near a blackhole with your engines off.
.
.
Sagitarius A should be a titanic cataclysmic force of nature at the centre of the universe which to behold might drive some to insanity with matter being sucked in and gamma radiation coming out, gravitational currents that only the best pilots with the best gear can hope to escape instead it is a weird looking 2d sprite that doesn't do anything except look weird. respect to the OP on his achievement and condolences on the anti climax.

hahah remember all those people (myself included) that said we'd never get there in years? I made a post about nutters who would have no life and all the time in the world to accomplish crazy stuff like this. I mean sure the guy coulda did this on a vacation but it shows there are always people who can and will go to a serious extreme over a game to prove something.

What a killjoy though... now everyone else looking forward to the journey just basically canceled all their plans. Now what else is there to do? Go to the other side of the empty galaxy?

Black holes don't "suck" any more than the Earth "sucks" us to the surface. It's all gravity. Would be cool to see objects have gravity though. Accretion disks too.

Splitting hairs here, but yes you could sit near a black hole with engines off if you're in orbit around it.

>orbit

obviously you can. but how fast do you need to be going for real to actually be orbiting it and not on a decaying orbit? didn't interstellar say that the acretion disk orbits at close to the speed of light most of the time?

Yeah it's gravity alright, 2 million times more than our sun. At that distance you'd be orbiting that thing so fast you'd be squish.
