Rare Commodities List!

so where do you sell? Do you buy in one system then sell at next or collect and sell at end ?

If a station makes money, it will eventually upgrade and increase its status, population, etc. So if you want to influence the background simulation in favor of your "home system" (if you have one) you should sell there.

Also, the reputation you get is based on monetary value of trade (at least one part of it is). So if you have a faction or a system where you want to increase your reputation so you get access to more missions and other nice things, then you should sell within that faction/system.

I was digging in one of the OVL files in the elite dangerous directory today. I think I found a clue to the rare commodities instances.

Some people dislike analysing the internal game files. So if you don't like these actions don't open the spoiler. ;)

In the Win32\Items\Items_Instance.ovl file there are multiple locations containing some names of the rare commodities. It seems that in the first line of this file contains multiple NUL-limited strings of different item instances. I found also some rare commodities like: ethgrezeteabuds or eraninpearlwhisky.

I've went to Coquin and Karsu as they are also in the list, but neither had any rare commodities in stock. Perhaps you have more luck in other systems.

It mentions that the further away you go the more its worth..

Do we know how much Profit 1 Ly is?

If you go 1000 Ly's away is it worth more then 100 Ly's away ?

If you read this thread you'd know the answer. Even graphed results!
over 150LY it flattens out.

This is soooo imba :D
Got new FSD for ASP and now I have 25LY range @128T
160LY run is 10-12min for 2mil profit = 12mil/h :p

Aye, between transporting Brandy from Lave and Blow-Up Dolls from Xihe, it's hands-down the most fun I've had with my clothes on this year :D

Yeah... that was my opinion on the balance; Early on it's not so bad, since you can only stock so much, but later on you get exponentially more profits, it seems. TBH I feel as if, in terms of balance, the best option would be a simple limit on purchasing stock, similar to way stores limit products to customers. Judging by own experiences the best limit would probably be between 16T and 64T; at the highest limit you'd still have to probably take a day's worth of trading to upgrade to a new hull, along with upgrades for the modules. But I will state that, with Ethgreze Tea Buds, the station selling them only seems to carry 65T so currently I imagine the way these are now are a "test" to see which limits work best.

Thank you all for your hard work. It's this kind of comunity spirt that makes a game something special. Here is what I found with the data you guys shared. ASP with top FSD and 82 cargo gets me 1.4m per trip. It takes 30 mins to do. Here are my waypoints.

CHI ERIDANI (Steve Masters)
NN 300920 LY
GAMMA PAVONIS18.89 LY
NARENSES16 LY
LTT 818119 LY
CORE SYS SECTOR QT-R B4-518.8 LY
WOLF 75119.8 LY
G 141-5220.1 LY
LP 447-3815.4 LY
HERCULIS SECTOR NX-U B2-420.5 LY
HERCULIS SECTOR RD-T B3-319.23 LY
HERCULIS SECTOR CL-Y D7619.6 LY
HEIKE10.9 LY
Total LY (Note: You need 20.5 range loaded!)
218.22 LY

Hmm.... I would like to mention something for you in regards to this trip; I'm running from Ethgreze (Tea Buds) to Chi Eridani (Marine Machines? lol,) back and forth, and gets me about 16K profits/T for 140Ly distance. Considering your 1.4mil is straight profit, you seem to be traveling a total of 80Ly extra for a measly 2 grand of additional profit. (1.4mil/82=~18K/T)

Just saying that you might be wasting fuel, which I imagine isn't cheap in an ASP.

Rare Commodities runs? Try this route planner
https://cmdr.club/routes/

Wow thank you... I no longer need to use a pen and paper or check my galaxy map over and over to do a rare goods trade run! I only wish OcRift could let me have a second screen to pull up with this info when selecting my next destination. Maybe it will all be made pointless with the new route planner they say is coming soon.

I went through the file on linux using the "strings" utility and filtering away many of the strings that aren't interesting (basically anything with an _). Some locations DO check out. I went to Jarua and found Jaroua Rice and then went to Njangari Saddles, see screenshot.

The following strings are further possible hits. I might have missed some, too. But if these are all positives, then there's a LOT more of those rares than previously known. Try to check some of those out. String as it appears in file - possible System.

For Jaroua, it's Mccool City with Jaroua Rice
Njangari, there's only one station, Lee Hub with ... Saddles

Quechua didn't have anything when I visited.

EDIT: I split it into sections which of those have been confirmed and which haven't been found yet. Note that system names are guesses by me using the route planner at https://cmdr.club/routes/ to find system names. They could be wrong, the commodity could have been moved elsewhere and the label not renamed or simply not yet implemented (or isn't a rare commodity at all).

Not a fan of looking through files, that's taking things much too far. Always a few who have to just be silly and take it to an extreme, rather than how it is intended to be played.

I understand your sentiment. However, it's always where one owns limit are. For one, this is too far, for others already the first post (ie. "not found by myself" ) is too far. Personally I just thought I share, I could have just held that back for myself in case they become non-personal again and are going to be camped.

Now I just lay back and drink a glass of:

Edit: it's in Schweikart Station and the station says there were 2 other players in this system in the last 24 hours. Guess that might change now.

Oh man - whomever writes these is great... hand planted and hand picked by specially engineered robots?!?

Welcome to the 34th century! :D

That's a big list, I had a feeling there would be a few! I'm sure FD said there were more to come?
Btw this info would have been up here soon or on wiki or some thing anyway, so you'll have to enjoy trying to get to one of these systems to confirm, I know I will!
on my way to Any Na and Deuringas

I do not agree that this is some kind of personal difference, I'm sure Frontier expected players to share, I do not believe at all they expected players to go looking through files in Linux for code references. I think anyone with a bit of common sense and integrity can see that.

No offence but if they didn't they should have.
There will be people reverse engineering the code looking for exploits etc.

It would not have been hard to obscure the strings with simple encryption. But ultimately pointless as the locations would come to light and be shared in the end anyway.

Yeah, they are in a datafile and these are string labels, not code, simply labels. They could have named them rarecommodity01 to 50 and all we'd knew was how many there were. They are a bit self-describing which is what helps finding them in the pile of ~5000 labels they are in. Perhaps the flavor texts are somewhere else, but neither was I looking for them nor did I even find these in the first place. I quoted p2k in the post, the discovery is not mine.

That said, I could have played it up as if I were a super explorer and just leak one per day in here claiming I'm finding them, but it wouldn't have been the truth. The strings are findable in plain sight in a file. If I hadn't made this list, someone else would have.
