Rare Commodities List!

However, if I put in Xihe in the search box from my start point, it does only say it is 67 LY away. I am now assuming this is a 'as the crow flies' straight shot measurment, which probably explains why I didn't see the Crazy Mad Money upon my return. I was hoping for a bit more than 500-1K per ton though, but oh well.

I call shenanigans on the distance formulas and tables, with all due respect to the people doing the maths. I've had to travel close to 280 LY on one run (yes, "as the space crow flies") to get any price increase at all (it was ~800 CR the entire way, then poof! 18K/ton).

The only reliable one I've found yet is the Ethgreze <-> Toxandji route which gives payback on both ends. Ofc, you need to wait to fill up if you're in anything bigger than a Cobra.

Been Running Ethgreze -> Chi Eridani -> Lave -> Ethgreze this weekend. Worked nice with about 15 k / ton each way.

Aaagghhh!!! I Don't Believe It!!!

I've been hauling between Jaroua and Chi Eridani (1.4 each way) and on the last trip I found I accidentally had brought a cargo of 92t of TEA. Ordinary, regular, TEA!

I must be doing this run too long. I need a drink!

And not bloody TEA!

LOL! This sounds like something I would do.

Good times my friend, good times!:D

We'll be monitoring for both and responding accordingly.

Michael

I'd consider both (edit by Eric...he is talking about the Mining-Reload-Instance-Explooit and Rare-Trading) to be an exploit and both have measures going in to address them.

Michael

We're looking at ways to find people who have used exploits. Don't worry about that! But also, don't worry about it if you have used an exploit - the guys on the dev team know the difference between testing something out and abusing the systems!

Edit - that didn't mean to sound as sinister as it did.

I hope your not British. We would have to chastise you for word of such sacrilege

The "measures" they will take have already been announced: they will reduce supply. I seriously doubt they will be going after the people that made money grinding the rares. After all, you could have just grinded the same money with regular trades, just with more dockings/undockings.

Uh yeah, it was already reported (twice in this thread) that rare commodities supplies would go down. That's the measure that's going in. And exploit = taking advantage of. Some people see that word as a synonym of cheating which it is not and Michael Brookes even pretty much clarified that too, so uh, supplies will go down and that is it I guess. Not terribly surprising as at the moment rare commodities are breaking normal trading when you're outfitted so you can do the large jumps easily; you simply won't ever trade anything else than rare commodities, it's not worth it. If they become rarer again where you cannot just dock and fill the cargo, then it becomes something that you do a bit but not exclusively which I feel is where it should be.

I am aware of the announcement of reducing stocks.
After rereading my post it has a slight tone of "doomsday is coming", although i tried to prevent that with my first sentences.
So again for clarification...the world is not going to end tomorrow...i just thought...not everyone is reading through every thread and might have missed this bit.
Excuse me if i left a wrong impression.

This said Ethgreze <-> Delta Phoenicis (223.04 LY) does NOT work, need to go further afield.

EDIT: Aoniu (Dereka's Prospect) @ 251.77 LY worked

I just hope that the selling of exploring data gets fixed at the same time then as I wonder if a lot of people have moved onto rare trading because nobody knows what is happening over exploring.

Fantastic work by everyone!
I've put together a very rudimentary form on my trade tool to help work out where to take rare trade items. It simply lets you see the distance, location and allegiance of the other trade items so it's easy to work out a return trip. It's on the 'Rare Trade' tab at http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

Thanks Thrudd! However, some of the distances seem to be off. For example, Delta Phoenicis to Heike is reported as 247.28 LY, but in http://tajti.co/elite/map/ it's reported as 104.17 LY.

EDIT: Hmm, I think the other tool might be wrong, the galmap gives about the same distance you do. I'm really confused about how distances are calculated in the tools, traveling or straight line.

Maybe I will start a new sheet with full edit access for everyone, and keep the current sheet as a backup !

For me Delta Phoenicis to Heike it's 247.28 LY !

Heike coordinates : -76,969 / 71,906 / 69,188
Delta Phoenicis coordinates : 53,906 / -130,688 / 14,656

So √ ((x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²+(z2-z1)²) = 247,28

source for systems coordinates database : https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SteveHodge/ed-systems/master/systems.json

Maybe an error somewhere. We need to check ingame ^^ !

So it is a bit confusing, all these different numbers being reported. :)

And Delta Phoenicis <-> Heike works. Nice supply in Heike.

Thank you to all those who helped put this list together! Was great fun trading and doing some long range business trips :)

What it looks like they have done is stop the camping but devalued the market as a whole and reduced the whole galactic trading system to a dozen places. Why go any where else to make an honest profit in 400 billion planets when you only need to trade in a 200 LY sphere?

I think the "limited number of items per customer" is rather realistic, happens for limited editions items in the real world too. It's also possible that two things happen with rare items:

1. There is a "glass ceiling" for it like there is for mining. If you have a cargo hold > 200 the wait for restocking might take longer than the profitability so above a certain cargo hold normal trading might be more profitable again (in credits per hour)

2. They might actually balance supply / demand depending on how many people trade in rare commodities. Pretty sure it's not implemented but they could "auto balance" it that way if they wanted. The distance / profit function would get balanced independent of the system people sell the stuff, just according to "spread" of a certain commodity. That would theoretically leave rare comodities in a place of equilibrium with normal trading. Just a different flavor.

3. They could inject more excitement into the system if rare good spawns would have global "cooldowns" for all players. So there would be nothing for 2-3 days, then a new shipment is ready and there is a run on them that takes about 2-3 days of collective work to trade away. That way players would move around more and more dynamically instead of just milking the same routes over and over again (e.g. Damna <-> Xihe is almost perfect).

Or a special event, like an announcement on galnews. Let the gold rush begin... but only for a limited time! That would get excitement going.

BTW, Heike <-> Belalans works, although Belalans has very poor inventory.
