Community Event / Creation The C-Pod: A DIY Command seat (build log)

Ah kitties - nothing makes a project slower, more frustrating, and still somehow makes it better ;) I've got 7, plus a chihuahua, so I get it.. Adorable kitty though ;) (That's a lot of winky faces, and no I am not hitting on you.. unless I get your throne out of the deal)

Dude - you should totally do a mock up of plans, and either sell the plans, or the pieces to be later assembled, as you could literally be swimming in money with how amazingly sweet your build is.. Like seriously. I know it's a pain and all that, but dang.. Have the pieces pre-cut for you by a shop, pack em in a box with some bad ass instructions, and blammo - cash monay.. I for one would jump on the poser bandwagon, when posing as a badbutt that makes badbutt gaming thrones is the target of the pose.. LOL no but seriously, every time I check updates, more badbuttery.. meanie.. LOL

Here's mine..

Not a very good picture - and I still had it set up for iRacing - but you get the idea.. Now I have my x52 pro setup, with the track IR, all Razer periphs, including the 7.1 headphones that I never use as 7.1 because they sound like listening to a surround system inside a washing machine.. LOL

P.S. I think the swear filter may be a little touchy/ridiculous.. Jussayin..

Looking great! One of the first threads I look for when checking the forums.

Thanks for that Sanderson and thanks for checking in mate :)

Thanks Gary, if I can get off my backside after this build is complete, I'll look to put some plans together. I'd love to make some kits also and will consider modeling this so it can be cnc'd. Very nice setup you have too, there's a lot of people who'd kill for a configuration like that! Nice to see another simracer on here as well :)

Wow... this is starting to look insanely brilliant! Don't go all Edgar Allen Poe on the cat though, you might just tip off the authorities when it meows as you blast through the letterbox (I wonder if anyone got that...)

+Rep, which isn't even enough, this thing could be worshipped.

Thanks Tihor and Harvey :) These extra bits take some additional time and money but are worth it imho.

Artwork for both pods had been done:

That did go over my head Harvey!

Looking snazzy, do you have any E.T.A. in your head? Wonder if you'll be done before launch ;)

That did go over my head Harvey!

It was a reference to an Edgar Allen Poe short story(albeit a poor one in hindsight, been a while since I read the story).

Part I attempted to reference :p
On the last day of the investigation, the narrator accompanies the police into the cellar. They still find nothing significant. Then, completely confident in his own safety, the narrator comments on the sturdiness of the building and raps upon the wall he had built around his wife's body. A loud, inhuman wailing sound fills the room. The alarmed police tear down the wall and find the wife's corpse, and on rotting head, to the utter horror of the narrator, is the screeching black cat. As he words it: "I had walled the monster up within the tomb!".

I originally anticipated it would take about 8 weeks or so. Gross miscalculation on the time on my part ... again! There's no way it'll be ready for the 16th; it would have been nice but never mind :)

Ah, Mr Poe, master of the macabre!

I don't know man, I think it's looking pretty crappy there. You really should scrap it, send it to me an I will dispose of it for you, that way you can start over and make it right this time around ;)

backlight that acrylic!!!!!! couple white LEDs would do the trick, maybe one in each corner - Just an idea, but I think it'd look sick myself - then again, I am a lightingafeliac

A joy to watch this build as always. Those sides came out lovely!

Thanks PF, I'm glad you're enjoying it :)

Dredd approves. outstanding citizen

Looks like I survived termination on this occasion and am grateful Judge Dredd!

I will look into that Gary - I'll be ordering some more LEDs at some point soon. I'll pop a few white ones in whilst I'm at it. They're 3mm - same as the acrylic to edge lighting may be possible.

It doesn't look like much but I have trimmed and cut the angles on all the side pieces - these will have further sections attached to them to cover the top section over the shoulders and have a single seamless piece. I will use bracing/support blocks to keep things sturdy. There will obviously be some filling required but doing it this way ensures that the external and internal bevleing will line up correctly:

Rather than windows for the upper part of the sides. I will create a separate panel with inserts to it so it will sit proud rather than embedded. I will do the same for the top. Whilst adding a bit of interest. This will also get around the problem of securely fastening the side sections to the top/shoulder sections - windowing here would severely limit my ability to create a stable structure.

The CP-1 already looks amazing, you are doing an amazing job! I would love to build something like this! Unfortunately, bought a house that needs renovating! So in the wife's opinion, that has to be done first!

Enjoying the build and looking forward to the completed Pod!
