One thing that strikes me as funny, the comments about how devs are changing things even now after release.

Did nobody ever experience this before?

Hell, i remember sinking hours and hours into my Bowazon in Diablo 2, only for Blizzard to nerf it. Same for my mate who had an awesome Necromancer, close to level 100 when they nerfed that. Did we go on the forums and vent a spleen? Nope, we simply got on with playing.

And for sure, they are still working on balancing things. Things that get a nerf today might get a boost tomorrow. There are still plenty of ways to make good money as many have pointed out. Just because one of the simplest has been nerfed doesn't meant its a bad thing (TM).

Combat is for no lifers? That's not most absurd statement I've read so far. Combat is part of the game like any other part of the game, way to generalize there buddy.

I didnt say combat was for no lifers. I quite enjoy the combat and have spent the last 2 days doing it pretty much exclusively. I have also not made ANY progression at all.

I said progressing via combat you would have to be a no lifer because of the huge time investment needed to actually progress. Think about how long it will take you to get say.. a Python doing Bounty hunting (Not to mention being able to afford to run it). Go ahead.. Ill wait. Oh, you'll be waiting too, because it will be thousands of hours of focused gameplay. AKA a grind.

Do you honestly think that anyone in this thread's problem is that they're changing things after release?

People who post these things know not to reveal "where" because that 1,000 per ton profit will be 300 per ton profit in a couple of hours.

Good for you for finding one... Now reveal it and watch what happens and why so few people can find a decent trade route :)

Back at the start of Gamma I got dumped in Cosi. The worst hell hole in Elite. It was impossible to make any money because I was trapped there on an island. All the surrounding systems sold EXACTLY the same goods and at the SAME prices. I complained on this forum and was flamed and told I didn't know how to play the game. I even received PMs from people telling me 'I suck!'. I just laughed it off because I know that I do know how to play the game and it was an issue in the game the devs needed to address. every time someone points out a fault with this game (that is still in development even after launch!) the fanboys jump on them and tell them they are wrong. Now I see many of those same people complaining because the devs have made a change to rare commodities.

I actually have never seen a rare commodity in this game, but that is because that is not where my interest lies. I am not in a rush to fly the biggest ship. I flew an Eagle and I did so out of choice. I made modest money but it was a 'lifestyle choice' if you like. Rare commodites however may be an issue to those who's ambition in this game is simply to fly a bigger ship. If that is what you want and means so much to you then I feel for you. But although I am infamous on this forum (to some) for saying it like I see it on this occasion I do see that the devs are still balancing this issue.

Rare commodities should be rare and if the game is structured in such a way that it creates a situation where rares become the only means of trade in the game where players simply ignore everything else then that is a major flaw in the game. If it is a case where players feel they have no option as some have said then the devs really should be looking at the whole trade system and what profit margins can be made on ordinary goods aswell.

Try and remember that they are still feeling their way through all of this and try and remember this: If getting that next big ship is so important to you and is your sole interest in this game and the devs removing your get rich quick schemes really bothers you, imagine how bored you are going to be when you finally get that Anaconda?

There is more to this game than just buying ships. Believe me they still have a long way to go to implement those things and I would be the first to point out that up until very recently there has been little else! But they are slowly getting there and in the fulness of time I believe there will be a lot more to this game than we see now. So try and keep a calm head. They will fix the rare commodities again if it really is as broken as you say.

For me the old system for rares was not necesarrily the best way to make money but it was a different way to make money. I quite liked the play style of waiting for stock to become available leading up to the moment you are ready to leave and get a big trip underway. Felt more immersive than going from A to B in a loop. Also the gamble of how many rares you would be allocated each 10 mins gave a rewarding feeling. I did used to look forward to seeing 20-25 to pop up on the screen, was a buzz. Buzzes are a good thing in a game!

I think it was a good mechanic, and a different mechanic. Back to lugging super conductors for now. Was it that broken?

One of my friends has stopped playing over this, at least for a few months to see if things improve anyway. It is not the specific nerf itself that is the issue but what seems to be an attitude of "you will engage in the dynamic universe and play the game the way we want you to play it" that bothers him.

Ganmers "read customers" have found a way of making money that doesn't invovle grinding? Nerf it quick.

As much as I am disappointed with the nerf I have to agree with Slick. I had a semi good Cobra, in one day it had A4 all round and I traded it in for an Asp. this was with a 32 ton cargo hold, pushing it i was making 1 mil every 75 minutes, approximately.

Only bought the Asp last night and after a couple of hours already have an A5 FSD, went to bed last night thinking 2 days and it will be A5 all round then what, just upgrade to a python and so on and so forth...It was too easy to be honest. in a week, I would have had a fully outfitted python.

I love the Asp, but now, instead of trading rares for a day and having the best available module in a couple of hours I've gotta think about it, instead of the A power plant costing 5.6 mil, i'm now looking at the B class modules for a quarter of the price with the credits I have... sucks a little but I suppose this chancer will have to diversify a little and be stuck with around 400k an hour (little route i've found just trading normally).

Rubix

Probably want to recalibrate your planned expectation! I can tell you for a fact rares would not have given you a fully outfitted Python in a week if you're implying one with all A-level gear. Maybe if you played >16hrs a day you could come close but even that would be unlikely.

This nerf certainly slows progression but more importantly it took away something fun to do: to jump far distances to be rewarded. This also seemed to capture the lore of Elite with trading, exploring and risk and reward. Bad move IMO since there are so few components of the game that are truly entertaining at the moment.

I have been playing for a couple of days now got 30k + not bad in a sidewinder :) Not using my Eagle which I can not find the Merc paint for? Ideas? not the reason for using it tho lol.
Markets are bit up and down so not trading as no point as the prices are bit hit and miss.
Now just playing solo as tired of "Docking request denied" at refinery's.
Solo seems much smoother for me to. Still fun game.
Sure the devs will iron out the bits and bobs as they seem very on the ball to me.
I see a lot of greedy post on here...not making enough etc If there was no challenge what is the point?
Devs keep up the great work,
Thank you love the game :)
Just sort my Docking out and I will be playing multi again lol

400k an hour? i make 100k every 5 mins, what route are you using LOL

I'm not a trader, i don't have a trading ship, i have small (relatively) cargo space. 400k an hour with what I have is plenty. good for you with your 100k LOL every 5 minutes... long may you continue!

If FDev have anything to do with it, it won't continue long.

Nobody wants a tedious game.

With this nerf, the ONLY thing that isn't tedious now is combat, which isnt even in the consideration for game progression for anyone but a no-lifer who plans to spend there life on this. Exploration is OK, but its not fun to me unless it can be combined with a way to progress. Which is what rae trades where.

I have a job. I am looking for a game. I thought I found one. Seems more like another job.

Traders don't like exploring, Explorers don't like combat, Bounty Hunters don't like... anyone! ;)

But seriously, people getting so serious? This is a game, a sandbox game. It provides an environment to play in, any way you want. How you play, why you play and what you play are up to you.
I like shooting things. It doesn't pay great, progression is slow and I don't travel far. If I get bored later in the game then I'll trade, or explore. Who cares... It's FUN.

You do remember fun, don't you? :D

I play solo too at the moment but I have found more and more stations that refuse my docking, sometimes i have to try like 10 times, not sure why because there arent any other ships in the vicinity...

Ben 'ol buddy, (firstly, don't take this as a rant, I mean in a friendly way) but you've been banging on about rep for days and days now. Why don't you bite that lil old bullet and give yourself a damn good wiping? you'll feel better for it, I promise! ;)

I see your point but a wipe wont stop it happening all over again.

Obviously making millions of credits for what equates to about 15-20 minutes of *actual* playtime was going to be nerfed. It was way out of proportion when compared to other money ventures. I'm surprised they let it go on for so long.

People must be delusional to think that Frontier believes the "oh but I explored, and did other stuff too" argument. When your cargo hold is filled with millions of credits worth of rares, you are doing nothing but getting to the next "Rare Commodity" station as fast as possible.
