Gamesradar - Elite Dangerous Review .. and it's a good one

Why do people bother with the public reviews on Metacritic? - having such a bi-modal distribution of scores is useless, and it seems to happen with every major game release. "Fanb**"? Unable to realise nothing's perfect? Vested financial interest? Give it a '10'. Run into a bug, feel aggrieved at the devs or publisher, biased towards another game? Give it a '0'. Seriously? People put any stock in this behaviour and approach to reviewing? No game is worth '10', likewise, unless it causes your computer to explode, killing your next of kin, no game is worth '0'. (OK, I accept that people who bought the game for the offline mode have the right to be aggrieved in that the product might be unusable for them).

Isn't B&W you can have shades of grey with a mix of them which adds to the options. For all I know there may be people who want to act as escorts to other players around the systems, that would be another option too,

Reminds me of the wonderful Steam reviews that go:

This game sucks 0/10 (time played 234 hours)

I remember arguing with somebody who hated the new X-COM game because it had no replay value and he'd played 250 hours! That's like hating The Sopranos despite watching every episode three times.

I have an axe for fanboys and dishonest reviews.....clearly you don't.

Sure because the only honest review must have the same opinion like yours else its dishonest and "payed" review. Pathetic...

If anyone who likes a game is a fanboy (any game) than anyone else who don't and calling the rest fanboys is just a very bad troll like you are.

I have seen so many of "you" at forums I am sick of your type I have played hundreds of games I liked some I didn't like some but I wouldn't join a forum just to call anyone a fanboy who don't share my negative opinion about a game I just move on and find something I like . Or you wanna say I am a fanboy for hundreds of other games also just because I have played it and had fun? So for you fanboy = someone who like a game. You are ridicilous. You are a worst type of user at game forums with this "fanboys" hating idiotism. You rage when someone write a good review about something but you disagree. Seriously? Whats your problem?

(Sorry mods I had to say this...)

Only one here is toxic is you. Keep up the great work cheerleading.

Got to say mate I think you have it backwards there. He's saying he likes the game game, his opinion and he's entitled to it. He's not even saying you're wrong to not like it. You on the other hand are name calling (fan boy, cheerleader). We'll have some neg rep for that I think...

Just to be clear I like the game. Is it 10/10 no, but 7/10, yeah sure. But again that's my opinion, I've put around 100 hours in and enjoyed most of it. Very much looking forward to the continued development. I'm sure you'll tell me I'm wrong though.

...he probably played Long War, which is excellent, and a VAST improvement on the vanilla game which is merely mediocre....

those Steam hours-played can be deceptive like that.

Another garbage review by a so-called "professional review site". Absolutely no mention of the real problems with the game, just a fluff piece. Then again, what do you expect as they are also selling the game. Just another site where gamers will be misled into purchasing (from their website) this partially broken game.

Did you just accuse an Internet publication of fraud? Publishing a fake review with the motive of driving up sales for finical benefit.

Now you either have solid evidence of this misdeed, or you’re making false accusations. Which is it?

Well you could truly believe it. But you show no evidence to support your positions, so I will assume there is none. Which makes you either paranoid or just straight delusional. So you expect people to take your opinions seriously on the Internet do you?

I love the Internet, it gives everyone a voice. I really hate the Internet, it lets everyone have a voice.

Pretty much this. But since the distribution of user scores at community sites like Metacritic is heavily skewed towards 0 and 10, the same is very likely to happen in any discussion of a review. :(

For the record, in a recent discussion I gave Elite : Dangerous a 6/10 score in the current state. Solid foundation, lots of potential, but woefully inadequate regarding functional multiplayer and depth of gameplay. Still, I am having lots of fun and I expect FD to keep improving the game. So I foresee a much more fun game in the future, and that is why I stick around. :)

I liked long war, it vastly improved the game. Now for the shameless plug, I like Xenonauts better.

Agreed. You have to at least totally discount the 0's (idiots) and 10's (fanboys) to see the real picture.

I actually don't use that site but just popped there for a look and the amount of crying and whining over the lack of offline play is quite ridiculous. Its like a room of children who's parents took away their favourite toy. ;)

+Rep to counter the inevitable negative Rep you will get for this comment.

If I were to rate this game it would be 8/10. There is a vast amount of good in the game, there are aspects that can be improved. Getting rid of the tethered drives, and looking for a more involved mechanism for "Wings", well I suppose if you want someone else to fly your ship, I suppose it is a loss.

Multi-player doesn't appeal to me, so there is no great loss for me there, I can see that to some it is the be-all and end-all of the game. To me, it is the Elite, I imagined when I played the 1984 game.

With the Occulus Rift and a pair of headphones, I am 'in' this world. Me my ship, credits in hand and a galaxy to explore. No rails, no walls, I play a Courier role, looking for high value missions for any one that pays, no questions asked. What would I want to add or change. I would get rid of silent running and put back 'stealth' through module management. Restore most of the emergent play lost through the 'nerfing' of FA OFF, I can see some of the problems, but there were ways of dealing with this without hammering this mechanic. Interdictions, for me, the sudden, unexpected interdiction, pulled violently out of super-cruise without warning, with only a second or two to assess the situation and make a decision to run or fight, far more dramatic than the current event. Finally, a personal reputation system, independent of factions, based upon successful mission performance delivering the opportunity for better paying, more difficult missions.

a 7.5/10 is fair for the game as it is now. It could be a 10/10 if the promised features are delivered and stuff is fixed though :)

Look at the history of their reviews... they are all slanted to the 90's .. I don't see hardly any negative reviews at all.

They are on the low end of the positive side of this fanboyish website. This means this was not a good review.

That's a convenient excerpt from a review that strongly points out two of the issues that most of us have been harping about for months:

"The galaxy can feel lifeless at times"

"Playing with friends is unnecessarily difficult"

Some of the user comments at the end of the review are quite telling.

Right, anyone disagreeing with you is an idiot....

Dude, you neg-repped someone for disagreeing with you. Pot, kettle.

EDIT: and now you've neg-repped me in another thread for just asking someone what's the rush to progress in the game. :p Sad, sad, sad.
