I have managed to get the Dukes of Mikunn to start a takeover of a neighboring system

Good job. Can you expand a bit of the neighbour systems population/economies/traffic? I think this is also key that only two guys were able to kick start it, probably a backwater isolated part of space.

There are four systems right next to each other, all are refinery or extraction economies. Mikunn is the smallest of the four. The one they are invading also happens to be an industrial economy as well and happens to be the largest, both planet and population wise. So in other words they are trying to take over the most strategically significant system in their area. I'm not sure if this is coincidence or sheer luck.

I will update original post when servers get back on line to lay out some data on the surroundings.

Ahh. That is slightly different. That is a civil war. I haven't quite gotten to that point yet. The Dukes were already the dominant faction on Mikunn. I imagine a civil war is in the works for the system they are gaining influence in though. Thanks for the info!

Well done - makes it more likely for other commanders to try the same thing. +1

It would be great if this sort of thing was automatically reported in Galnet news - even if there was templated 'shorts section'.

This is encouraging, I've just stumbled across two far flung systems way beyone the regular rim of colonised space and was wondering what impact I could have on such distant stations, so now i know its worth giving it a try.

I helped my allies the Democrats of Suyarang expand into the neighbouring Naiti system, however I found it difficult to improve their influence in the new system. Naiti has only one starport which was already owned by another faction, so if I did any trade with it it would work against the Democrat's influence. I've since moved on to another system.
.
How are you getting on with increasing your factions influence in the new system? Your OP says "doing missions at <original system> now directly effects 1 faction within the neighboring starsystem." with a link to this picture http://i.imgur.com/QM2zYw7.png, but I don't understand what that is showing? What mission had you just completed? Have you seen any significant increase in influence in the new system?

Right. I'm coming to Mikunn to help out. Nothign better to do right now, still don't have enough cash for my exploration Asp...
If the Dukes take over a second system, would it make it onto the Galnet News I wonder?

All I did was a food mission in Mikunn (donation) and it helped in the other system for some reason. I have only been able to replicate this once. I dont know what triggers it. I also have not been able to check, the other system yet. That is next on my list.

Jadefriendly and Slartybartfast, should I put you on the list for the Mikunn Mercs?

at the moment u might just find that one faction takes over the other faction, then i guess u should look at missions, killing pirates should boost the economy, economic transport missions should lead to a boom. My guess would finda faction that is busines or democratic in nature. Influence this faction into power, it would seem after a while they consolidate their hold and upgrade their ships..... then i dunno if expand colony type missions pop up, u might just wanna build up credits and see what the devs do, do surveys with the level 3 probes of nearby systems ( planets and mineral surveys) if u find any devleoping terraforming worlds trade to them, and let us know with screens if possible

I would be curious to see the source of that info about the bug you mention. It would be useful for me to know. Everything seems to be working for me now though.

Last week there was a thread on how the Lugh Experiment had failed, in it someone referenced a dev talkign about it, it's somewhere round
Alsothis on reddit

hope it helps

EDIT:Ah I see someone already linked the thread I mentioned

Awesome! I saw an Alliance thread the other day where they were trying to do the same but on a much larger scale. In terms of getting stuck in a system with 1 station totally under the control of a rival faction, it might help to take missions for that faction and then defect on them - either by cancelling the mission or finding an alternative completion route at a USS. Just a thought.

A much smaller system, and the devs have updated stuff since Lugh apparently. I'm willing to give it a try.

Does selling exploration data improve your standing with a faction? Mikunn is a long way from me, could get a whole load of scans in en-route...

edit: selling rare goods apparently helps your rep too. might plan my route there via some rare selling systems...

yeah these issues are server side and the devs implemented some changes yesterday, so it looks like the game world is now working mroe like was intended rather than the bugs that were found last week, we can now change influence

The Dukes welcome you to the Mikunn Mercs Slarty. You will be added to the list. They pay well. Ill be adding some story content on this soon as it is gaining popularity ;)

I dumped about a million credits worth of data on Mikunn yesterday trying to get them to expand into the neighboring unclaimed systems. It may have played a role in their expansion into HR 7327 though. Go for it.

And welcome to the Mikunn Mercs, Jade.

I've thought up some lore on their beginnings, it's still very rough:

The Dukes of Mikunn are brothers and were originally imperial citizens. Their father was of very minor nobility, the house of Darvil, so minor that they didn't even have a place in court or Senate. They did however own a failing mining operation and owed obstenuous debts to many lords and ladies. It didn't take long before one of those lords, a senator Fealix, attempted to forcibly seize all their assets, including their livelihood of the mining station. It was at that moment that the Darvils decided to run from the Empire and all the debts. Their father was killed while trying to keep Fealix's men off one of their mining stations. Disatrous this may have been, he gave his sons time to use the stations FSD and jump away with a handful of slaves and loyal employees. They wandered from system to system until they came upon Mikunn. To the brothers this system looked perfect, and since it was so far away there was no chance of Lord Fealix finding them. So they declared themselves dukes of their mining station and began their new lives.

Nice!!! I'm going to take this and edit it to fit in with the name of the station in Mikunn. The Commanders helping will be Mercs for these two feudel lords. Mercs of Mikunn.
