You're really taking the wrong track on this... freely switching between the two during play and removing yourself safe and sound from Open is going to kill the game.

Not really. The journey is the destination in Elite. It doesn't matter what you or anyone else has. PvP is a quite niche interest in Elite: Dangerous.

No I don't think it will kill it. Rather the choice of ways to play will increase the number of people who buy Elite. In fact the only reason I invested $200 in Alpha is because of the online solo mode. If the game was online multiplayer only I would not have purchased it. And by the way, if Frontier eliminated online solo and made all players use online multiplayer all hell would break loose and rightly so. I know I would demand my money back. Bottom line it will never happen but unfortunately that doesn't keep the EVE crowd from incessantly wining about it. There is a reason I do not play EVE or most other multiplayer games and I am delighted Elite is nothing like that nightmare of a game. I think if I see one more post about eliminating online solo or disallowing switching between the two I will throw up.

Kill - not for sure, but really hamper multiplayer experience. IMHO There should be separate universe for online play and private group/solo. There are plenty reasons for that but why devs would care? Product is gonna sell anyway, and this is subject for regular, long term users that do not generate such income as first impression which is "wow i can do this AND this with no penalty at all, such freedom, wow" without any reflection.

Not at all. Only those who enjoy ruining the game for others need to have people forced into open play. All other play styles, including those who like to play the villain, can get by quite happily without forcing others to be vulnerable to non-consensual PvP.

It won't kill the game, but it may not exactly help it, either. I do believe a proper cut between Single and Multiplayer should have been made - offline Single player, completely separate from your online experience - no credits, ships etc. carrying over, you start any mode from scratch.

They could still at least separate Solo from Open by allowing multiple CMDR saves as well as forcing everyone who's already playing to make a decision whether they want to have their current CMDR in Open or Solo in the future. Any CMDRs created in the future would be created either for a Solo or an Open experience, never able to switch around.

So far about 20% gankers, I wouldn't tell the number is that low from all the noise they make :)
