Incentive for hauling in Open Play

There should be a "wall" between open and solo, I really don't get the argument to keep the current game mechanics? someone like to explain?

Problem here is that no haulers = no pirates = no bounty hunters As the haulers are trucking in bubble wrap mode then the open world falls down....

There is no food at the bottom of the food chain....

No haulers? Are there no NPC haulers in the open galaxy then? I'm very surprised to hear that.

They would be foolish to 'offer themselves up', they should be defending their ships, hiring escorts, sticking to 'safe' trade routes.... its all about the fun of the game.. Hiding oneself away in bubble wrap mode is quite cowardly.

cowardly? As opposed to targetting haulers with combat designed ships?

Anyhow, as you said, "it's all about the fun of the game". It seems your fun comes from destroying other people's ships. That costs them time to rebuild what you destroyed. Other people have other definitions of what constitutes fun.

Perhaps you might try flying in those cargo ships, in areas with other players that want PvP. Then you can put your hand to defending your ship against a combat armed pirate. It's all about the fun of the game - right?

Fyi, u cant leave game "instantly" if a hostile is identified ther is a 15 second logoff timer...even a hardboot will leave ur ship in space for 15 seconds...my advise is stop worrying n play, the pvp is almost non existent.

PVE pirates can exist. What about PVP pirates? Are you saying their play style is not legitimate?

I'm saying that the game is designed around player <-> NPC interactions being the bread and butter of all careers. By that token, yes, it is the case that a player that restricts their targets to other players WILL find they have a serious lack of targets.

It's a consious design decision by Frontier.

As for the rest, I doubt you'll get any argument from any pirate players. Being able to hire escorts and otherwise mitigate the risks at the cost of lesser profit should be an integral part of the game. Just as pirates should be able to prey on weak targets, traders should be able to turn themselves into not-so-weak targets to ward them off. As it stands, there is no reason to hire escorts, as you can just sit in your solo bubble and ultimately make more money than open world traders as there is close to no associated risk.

You're missing the basic fact that the game is designed to allow people to play with or without PvP as a possibility. Those that want to engage in PvP will play open. Many that don't want to will also play open for other reasons (myself included). Others will play solo and stay there. Others will later drift either from solo to open, or open to solo.

The possibility for people to drift into open should be something you applaud. You say that you would like to see traders that can defend themselves. That's great - allowing people to drift into open later in their career does just that - encourages more into open.

Or are you saying you just want the newer players, the ones that can't defend themselves. The ones in haulers and cargo fitted cobras or type 6's. The ones you can blow away without thought or risk?

Wish people would stop with this lazy completely inaccurate argument....

...Ganking anyone has never even crossed my mind.

If you say so I guess it's true. I accept without reservation. I strongly suspect that you are not representative of people who claim that other people playing in solo is "cheating", or "ruining my experience".

How much are you guys getting attacked? I literally play every day and I have had one run in with a pirate and it was actually quite fun.

By players?

I have pretty much never been attacked. Never since launch, despite not one moment in solo.

Yup. Both above posts.

I play open and have been playing lots and have only had one run-in with a player pirate.

I believe players on both side of this polarising row are deeply overestimating the number of players playing solo / the level of griefing in Open.

For the sake of the space kids, people need to relax a bit.

Honestly ive only had one person attack me in an anarchy system, but ive pirated multple players everyday, even get some hauling gold, which is awsome. but im a 1%er and youll probly never run into me. but still people playing in solo and in large groups affecting the universe against no risk NPC enemies is cheating

That's your opinion, as you have made abundently clear through a profusion of forum posts. However, "cheating" within the context of a game is defined as conducting actions that are prohibited by the rules of the game, in order to gain an advantage.

Noone is breaking a rule by playing solo. They are playing exactly in accord with the designs of Frontier.

Always remember that solo players have their games affected by open, far more than open players have their game affected by any individual solo player.

I HATE CAREBEARS, you guys should have an offline mode that does no affect my online universe, you cheat by playing solo and group, that is all lol

You know, an offline mode is all I wanted. But then Frontier removed that and sent emails to everyone that complained telling them to just play solo online instead.

I still wouldn't condone removing solo online play, mind, but the solo population is now higher than it should have been, inflated with everyone that wanted to play offline instead.

Imagine only 5 systems, imagine Open play mode only, imagine stations not enforcing No Fire Zones and there are no system authority vessels or police and every time you take off there's an Anaconda camping the docking pads. Oh wait, some of us don't need to imagine that, we played it. The simple fact is that Open doesn't match the hysterical rantings of a vocal minority repeating the same tired old arguments again and again for over a year. And they don't like that, not at all.

So round we go again, said Zebedee.
Hey ho, said Ermintrude.
