Which begs the question why even buy them anyway?
There is 2 things vanity item are used for, look at them and show them. You cant do either in Elite. Might want to focus on dashboard items at this point.

So am I the only person who thinks that the paints/skins on the website store are a bit steep for what they are?
Um, other people can see your paintjobs you know
This fine gentlemen is the reason ED are charging what they are charging for pure cosmetics..because there are people out there that will pay for it.
That some of us will look at the dear chap like he has a screw loose paying the price for another game for some pixels he will almost never see is clearly irrelevant to him and i agree its his money and he can do what he wants with it.
I am just disappointed to see ED resorting to these tactics already and have this dread feeling that its the start of a slippery slope that will end up with a diablo 3 money siphon and the beginning of pay to get ahead akin to all those horrible games on Facebook.
The prices are fine, unless you are a kid with nothing more than pocket money, but to them I would say get off your backside and get a part time job. Seriously, anyone not in education complaining about the current price of skins probably needs to get their priorities straight and stop playing computer games if money is that tight.
This is a common fallacy in this discussion. People either assume that everyone makes a thousand dollar paycheck with minimum bills, or everyone is unemployed and too lazy to get a job. People such as you never take account of realism and only a true adult would see that. People work, people have bills, people have other priorities. Someone can purchase something in their life while still playing this game while having a job. But lets say they had a choice of something that's five dollars that will last them years, or a piece of content in a game that will last them years at the same price. The variables are endless and you count none of them. For instance I work a job, and I'm also a full time student. I have bills, and I pay bills. If I find something I like in the game, which offers very little for a rather uncomfortable price, then that is simply a thing - and that thing is a fact because it is a thing. Yeah 5-17 dollars isn't a lot for a lot of people, but for a lot of people it is more than a lot.

for some one who live on ssi 733 a month im able to pay my bill and get a game like this with a few add on try again
In some places to some people 733 a month is desirable, and I'd assume after bills, it's still more than 10-30 dollars sure. But what about people who make less than 733 a month. Perhaps... 500, 400 dollars, 300 for some people. There are probably even children who play this game which only get a small allowance because they can't get an actual job. I'm not saying to pry, I'm just stating facts.
