5 billion is 5 thousand million
Could you imagine the outrage if this was 5 US billion
5 billion is 5 thousand million
Try to run ED launcher as Administrator (right button, 'Run As Administrator').
Been playing since Alpha. I've had tons of cash and I've had practically nothing several times over. It's true that having millions in the bank (or even billions) completely changes the experience, but not necessarily for the better. As others have said if you remove that aspect of the game then you're fundamentally changing the experience. Is it more fun one way or the other? Is it fair to have such disparity on account of a database error? Reasonable people can and will disagree.
That said, I do think that grinding for cash shouldn't by necessity be the end-all-be-all of the experience. There should be lots more to keep people engaged than just the quest for more money. To that end I'd rather FD spend their time addressing leveling concerns, making all professions equally viable, and generally improving the experience for all players than worrying too much about this particular issue. No matter what they do they're going to anger people, after all.
No, because (at least with how I define the term), 'exploit' involves intent. There was no intent by these players. They suffered from server issues that lost them credits, then FD overcompensated them. The players did nothing wrong.
If a player finds a bug and then repeatedly uses it to their advantage, that's kind of the definition of exploiting (for me, at least).
just......get over it, of course they should be allowed to have a xmas break, stupid to think otherwise so why even mention it, the money those guys made, how on earth does that effect you, unless you are upset you didn't profit? this is primarily a solo type game they are not going to have some magical advantage over you, the only valid complaint you have is actually your friends problem not yours.
I say again, get over it, move on with your life, it's not worth getting worked up over
Yeah, that's the first thing we tried about 2 minutes after first encountering the issue, that doesn't work.
Lol![]()
Yeah, that's the first thing we tried about 2 minutes after first encountering the issue, that doesn't work.
We've tried hundreds of different fixes and we now know (due to another user on here temporarily solving the issue) that on some people's systems the launcher hangs when sending the users token to the server. This can be done manually via a batch file so we know it's not necessarily a network problem on our end.
However since this is a known issue and has been happening for months even before release, they really should have it fixed by now especially since the users have pinpointed exactly where the problem is.
Even a response to a ticket would be nice, on occasion.
If you can't see the difference between exploiting a bug in-game and accepting a compensation offer given to you by the developers of that game, then I give up.That is not accurate. Sorry. There was intent. They accepted the money (if they are one of the players that did accept it).

Have fun with this increasingly pointless discussion.
The billionaires are having the gifted money deleted. Just been announced in Game Support.

all fair points but I would like to point out on small thing regarding time frames that you expect a developer to "fix" issues by, Elite is a small kick starter and has just released their are many problems that need to be addressed and only around 200 members of staff in the entire company, compare that to say Blizzard who have over 5000 member's of staff and still can't get a game to launch correctly and it puts a little perspective on things. I do understand that this dosn't helps your problems but it is what it is.
They made a huge mistake with the 5 billion gift. They've set a bad example for the future.

I agree but regardless of the size of the company, software fixes have to go through a life cycle and that takes time.
1. Diagnosis
2. Fix designed, review and approved
3. Fix developed
4. Fix tested (which may go back to 2/3 several times)
5. Production implementation planned
6. Implementation.
Considering the holidays etc, and the game is not broken (far from it) then I'd be surprised if we see a 1.04 before the end of January. Now that they are officially "live", they need to be careful that fixes applied do not cause a serious regression issue that would require a reset/wipe to correct (that would be fatal for the game I think).

The usual assortment of server side fixes have been deployed today – nothing too specific to call out here. We’re still making progress with 1.04 for this week which does also include further server side updates – including some fixes for exploration! We’ll let you know when this rolls out. Otherwise, things seem stable and happy in “server land”.

Moot point now - the billionaires.
That just leaves the support problems.
+1 to FD at least for listening to the forum.
(I accept I was in the minority but hey - if we were all the same life would be boring)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
