Wings feature is a joke. Making 4 man groups does not make an MMO. Man you white knights are thick.
Yes, yes we are. It's the way we can't keep up with shifting goalposts of people arguing against us.

Wait wait, you mean online community as in 'people playing the game together' like in the Wings feature coming out soon? Or the First Great Expedition that's already active sorta thing?

If you want a successful game (especially a successful MMO) you tend to include these features and more at release. Tried and tested, not after release with only internal testing.
Oh I won't disagree with the whole 'game wasn't ready to be released but was released early for Christmas sales' argument. Because despite being accused of being one, I'm not an FD White Knight. And I sort of see someone as having failed an argument when they start calling names someone who disagreed with them. (Not aimed at you Zeyi, I agree with your point).
Yes, the game has issues. Yes, the game was released too early. Yes, the player comms side needs more work (And is being worked on). That said: Yes, the game is fun (for me) as is. Yes, the game was better received than I was expecting. Yes, it will get better. And Yes, it is an MMO.

...and it's multiplayer.
You're wrong
Why?
Ok... ED says "Massive Multiplayer Online Adventure". It's massive (400billion stars), it's online and it's multiplayer. Every player connected to the transaction server regardless of the instance they're in or solo/open is capable of making a change to the persistant world that will affect everyone else connected to it, this game is therefore Massively Multiplayer.
Unfortunately the acronym MMO has been hijacked by people that probably think all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers and all mp3 players are ipods.

<snip>, is not online and is not massive. <snip>
If anyone has a problem understanding that an MMO does not mean a specific number of people group hugging at the same time, as long as it features simultaneous online participation in a shared universe, please raise a hand. And we will try to explain it to you. The MMO label was pulled because of the length of this very thread. Case in point.![]()
Here we go again, and based on that all games must forever remain the same and have the same tired old features because so many gamers are unable to think outside of the box that WoW, EvE, SWtoR, etc etc etc etc etc created for them. Shall we go fully server based and have a holy trinity of ships too, with chat so I can say, 'healer cobra LFG - 'Conda Killer 16 man - have achievment' - no thanks, I like a variety of games in my library, I do not want to repeat everything ad nauseum just with a different background.
I'm sorry but what on Earth are you talking about? We're talking about basic MMO and even basic multiplayer features that are entirely missing from the game. You can try and put words in my mouth all you want but I said none of what you just spouted.
I haven't seen any examples of anyone saying that.
The reality is that the definition of an MMO is very broad and the range of games which fit into it is, consequently, very broad. World of Warcraft is an MMO and, apparently, so is World of Tanks. The former is a persistent world where a few thousand players on a server can interact with each other. The latter is a PvP game where a limited number of players battle each other on random maps.
You must be joking. That is the biggest apologist excuse I have ever read ! To suggest the MMO tag line and Massively Online Multiplayer name which was used on the marketing material of the official website meant that it was massive in terms of the number of stars !!!
Look here :
'Elite: Dangerous is the spectacular new sequel in the Elite series of games. Head for the stars, take a ship and trade, bounty-hunt, pirate or assassinate your way across the galaxy in this massively multiplayer online space adventure.'

Are you really telling me the 'massively' part in that sentence refers to the number of stars ?
You implied it.
ppl now days hear MMO oh this going to be like world of warcraft its sad i know
Absolute tosh.
