A little? You live on some other planet than Earth?

I know it goes on - my girlfriend had her details stolen twice. She doesn't play video games, yet her details ended up being used in Rift to the tune of £400.

I'm not naive to think it doesn't go on, RMT is very real but at the end of the day I think your perspective on life is skewed if you think these people deserve to die.

It's up to the game companies and the CC companies to deal with this - it will happen. Hell it's already happened - people have loaded up accounts with credits and now selling them on Ebay.

As I said above, it's not necessary to allow trade to make wings work. So in a sense, arguing the virtues, risks and politics over gold sellers is pretty off topic.

What a developer should avoid is refusal to implement a valid and beneficial function to their game purely on the basis that it might be abused. Gold selling is a problem for online persistent games. But it's not a valid reason to not implement player trading - or advanced player communication.

All too often I see ideas shot down because "it'll help gold sellers". It's not good enough. A game either needs something or it doesn't.

The devs have acknowledged the problem of gold sellers. It's up to them to build their infrastructure to limit that activity, not limit our enjoyment to spite gold sellers.

It's irrelevant, though. Wings doesn't need player trading. It will simply need a robust profit sharing device. I've never played a cooperative game where it was necessary to trade in order to share the spoils of grouping up with other players.

ED need not be the first. It is currently, but I appreciate wings should change that. But it shouldn't need trading to work and profits should simply be shared.

But considering the above and that there are no other reasons to need to trade, there actually isn't a dire need to introduce player trades at all. So if there's no need for it, there's no need to argue about gold sellers.

If the only way to trade credits was via sharing profits in a wing then the only way gold sellers could transfer credits would be via playing the game with someone or account sale. Neither of which are profitable enough for small to medium transactions, where there would be no way to build up stock levels for quick turnaround. So gold sellers will avoid ED like the plague.

Anyway, derailed the thread enough.

Just so you know, a pretty good portion of goldsellers are essentially virtual sweatshops where kids (I'm talking like around 7-13) run multi-box bot programs to scrap a meager living (less than $0.50/day sometimes) without being physically worked to death or shoved in some mine (also a death sentence).

Yes we don't like gold sellers/credit card fraud, but you clearly don't understand and have never suffered from poverty if this is your reactions to it.

A-haa... if you say so... you clearly know me oh so well. Guess I'm not exactly super-poor, but yearly income is in figure of 8400€ - from which rent etc have to be paid off.

These forums make me smile. People go on about how just because a player has millions, or billions, due to bugs/the founders thing/grinding rares before nerf etc etc etc, that it doesnt make any difference to you and doesnt effect your game.....and then in the same breath scream that credit transfer would promote gold sellers! If others credit balance doesnt effect others, then who cares if there are gold sellers?

**disclaimer......i hate gold sellers farmers, never used em, never will, but if folk wana pay £* to get in their favorate ship and bypass the grind cos they have lives and jobs and dont have the time to mess around porting tat from a to b or looking at the mission board thats utterly lacking when it comes to ships with over 40t cargo space....then who cares**

I don't want to get too far into your personal fiances, but that is a meaningless figure if you don't also give the cost of living in your area, as well as the buying power said figure give you.

I live in the USA, so 8400€ is roughly equal to $9903, which is abysmal here in my state, but if you make that in somewhere like Ghana, you are quite well off. Even between states here, the actual number value of what you make is pretty much meaningless since the cost of living varies so greatly.

But regardless, the fact that you are on a forum, using a computer on the internet, have rent to pay (implying you have at least somewhat adequate housing), and can afford the time and money to devote to things like Elite, you are not impoverished. Thankfully, neither am I, but I have been there, and trust me, your perspective on life can change a lot when you've panhandled in order to eat, slept on the ground, and relieved yourself in your toilet that hasn't had running water for months.

the point I am trying to make here, is you need to put yourself into the shoes of others before you go judging them. More often than not, there is more to it than you are seeing.

P.S.
I never claimed to know you 'oh so well', but your attitude on the matter clearly conveys that you have either not suffered severe monetary crisis in your lifetime, or that you have and learned nothing from it.

On this note, wasn't micro-transactions for creds something that was thought about anyway? GOLD SELLING IS WRONG (Unless FD does it ofc :p)

I understand the issues that would come with a player-to-player transfer system but I find its kind of sad that a game so heavily based upon trading wont allow players to trade between eachother.
There must be a good way to implement this somehow.

Automatic voip chat with players in your wing, trade between players, the ability to synchronize jumps to other systems or within system with FSD, and the ability to designate a leader of the wing.

I actually would use a ship shop if they implement it. Really want my Asp back but cant see myself making 36 mill any time soon(upgrade cost). Would raise a little cash for them too, which cant be a bad thing.
If they sold credits for cash it would have to be worth it I think, based on current ship costs, 6 mill + 12 mill upgrades being a bare minimum, I think it would have to be in the order or £15 = 10 mill credits, or somthing like that

Player to Player trading is such a vital aspect of player interaction, I really hope it gets in.

Without being able to directly pay your fighter escorts for protecting you, the whole notion becomes unlikely to ever happen.

And arguing we cannot have that because of the Chinese Gold triads is just really poor and defeatist.

So long as they implement a way for the solo players to hire wings (or outright buy protection ships) I am excited, else meh. I have no interest in going into open play but it would be nice to have a few vipers along to keep the pirates at bay whilst I fill my hold with mined ore.

I'm hoping wings will transform the game. Groups of traders forming convoys, packs of pirates and bounty hunters, etc.

Yep this. And I hope the AI gets taught to operate in packs and convoys too. The most boring thing in the game to me at the moment is the fact that, in super-cruise, when interdictions happen, it's all just one-on-one stuff.

Player bounties would be awesome, if you get one on it you cant pay it off, it doesnt effect your wanted status its basically just a reward someone gets for killing you. Gives traders the necessary power to stop complaining, although FD should make it so anyone you were friends with in the past month cant collect the bounty.

Player to player money transfer would improve every aspect of the game imo. 2 person pirate squad where someone can fly the Viper the other can focus on cargo space, protection deals for mining trading etc. This needs to be added asap.

I'm looking forward to wings, but cautiously so, as the line between useful feature and contrived bloat is a thin one.

ED is not a competative game.

ED is what you make of it, and there are certainly competitive elements.

As it is, for this game to be able to survive long term player credit transfer will need to happen.

While I'm undecided as to whether I think credit transfer should be allowed or not, I'm not at all convinced that the survival of the game is at stake if it doesn't happen.

Yes we don't like gold sellers/credit card fraud, but you clearly don't understand and have never suffered from poverty if this is your reactions to it.

That's a pretty big assumption.

your perspective on life can change a lot when you've panhandled in order to eat, slept on the ground, and relieved yourself in your toilet that hasn't had running water for months.

I've forcibly relived others of their property, at grave risk of injury, death, or prison time, in order to eat and have a warm place to sleep. If it came to it, I'd do so again before I resorted to panhandling or sleeping in the dirt. My opinion of those who are overly squeamish about doing whatever needs to be done to avoid, or quickly remove themselves from, intolerable conditions is less than sympathetic.

Without being able to directly pay your fighter escorts for protecting you, the whole notion becomes unlikely to ever happen.

Situations like this are a compelling argument for credit transfer.

Player bounties would be awesome, if you get one on it you cant pay it off, it doesnt effect your wanted status its basically just a reward someone gets for killing you. Gives traders the necessary power to stop complaining, although FD should make it so anyone you were friends with in the past month cant collect the bounty.

Even with such a limitation, it would still be pretty open to abuse and exploitation.
