This is definitely not the typical game for the typical gamer. Thank goodness. There are plenty of rail rides out there for "typical" gamers that will give them the dopamine dumps for perceived achievement that they're addicted to. This is much more aimed at the old school gamers that enjoyed games like the original Elite and space sims and don't want everything force fed to them or have their hand held and a mission marker always telling them where to go and what to do next.
Anyone else feeling a tad of hostility bordering on hatred?
I'm not really an explorer although I do tend to scan unknown places as I pass through.
Personally I'm happy building rep around Lave and the Alliance right now. Then I will move on and try and join The Empire, I'm also building a collection of Ships. So far I have a decent Cobra and a nice and fast Viper stripped of anything heavy basically. I hope I can transport them by the time I move...
I'm no role player, but in the case of Elite I have found that reading the lore and books has made the game far more enjoyable. I'm completely new to the Elite world and there is plenty of reading. My point is that it's not everyones cup of Tea. More features will be nice and are sure to come but it is what it is and I love it.
I dont have write a freaking wall of text, to tell people that i like ED. I like Elite.. YES i played teh freaking game in the 80's, i like the universe.. im a sci-fi geek. And the game is new of course it lacks content, but its added over time..I like Trading, Bounty Hunting.. Explorting, hell i like wathicng witchspace while warping. Its the Whole SPACE THINGY i like, i like docking.. supercruise. Its the first game for years, that i really liked and im happy. They will adjust and mold it over time, but people nowahdays esp the Young ones.. want content NAUW i Want more, give me give me..ok 1 week im out crap game.. sheeesh. I find Eu trucker dumb and easy, i dont like trucks i like spaceship and the universe.
No. I still maintain that Frontiers single biggest mistake was making it a multiplayer game.
Well my "guildies" or Clan as we like to call it would probably camp systems and charge tolls or kill those who refuse, we would take control of territory and expand onto that imposing our will on whomever is unfortunate enough to encounter us. Of coarse this would cause rifts and create opportunities for other groups of players to band up against us.
But of coarse everyone will be spacetrucking in solo mode avoiding our blockades and attempts to change the PU....
I have the right to use any public information available to me to formulate my opinion about the game and the company that made it. In the end, It's MY TIME I plan to invest into something that gives no Real life benefit whatsoever. This is what makes me a typical gamer and not a fanboy like some of the responses I've seen to my criticism. My time is valuable and I'm not wasting it doing long boring trading missions instead of getting involved in something worth investing in...
If it's true about ED being for you Niche fanboys then you guys go ahead and have it. I'll probably see you in SC and be ready to run you down and steal your space goods!, or maybe you'll see me as a medic or any of the other many interesting things there will be to do in the game.
You guys need gamer's like me to keep your game alive. To do that you will need to compromise on many aspects of your beloved game to keep the player base needed to run such a game. The only answer will be time but a lot of you seem to be very defensive at the idea of expanding on top of what the core game offers and that's contributing to my opinion about the future success of this game.
Why would anyone post a dishonest review? I wonder why you felt the need to make that distinction.
Why would anyone post a dishonest review?
Many people here are sad and angry, its like they broke up with their first big love. Ive seen this kinda behavior in many mmo's, and there is no treatment for it. Eventually they get bored of typing and wander off to the next mmo and write forum novels.
For money? IGN does it all the time![]()
Maybe yes, but these sad and angry players are similar to you, they trying to believe in ED, trying to like it, but we all got cheated.
The fact that some players can find the game enjoyable for endless hours is only proves that those players have very little to no expectations from a game.
The biggest mistake of FD was making ED a multiplayer game, actually this statement is true, if they release it only for singleplayer, thousands of us never buy the it and you couldn't enjoy the endless complaints on the forums.
I personally expected an MMO, you know because they said its MMO, but just to make it more disgusting, i even managed to convince 3 guys from my EVE-online corp to buy the game too, so we will playing together!
Guess what, now they all hate me, because they feel sad about ED for the exact same reasons like me, its boring, its grinding, everything looks the same, no pvp, no real pve content, terrible mining, very dumb and simple exploration and trading, etc...
Maybe i'm not the average player, i started playing games ages ago, i could write a whole book about what games i played / tried so obviously i expect something more from a huge name like Elite and probably that's why every new games makes me disappointed.
The whole game world is changed and sadly on the wrong direction, the technology and knowledge what developers can access today is just insane, the developers of the good old games (insert your favorite here) never even dreamed about this technology...
And now look at all those shiny new junks called today's games, its all about business now, no one really cares about the game itself, just make it shiny and sell it. (see console games)
Sadly some people from FD was part of those "old developers" and as you can see they forgot everything from the old times (or not?) and they just copy paste a game from 1984 with all its shallow contents and flawed dumb game designs, just with shiny graphics, remember? its all about money...
Im really impressed by the amount of players defending this game, even more impressive that they can't say a single good reason why to like the game.
Its always the same "i loved the 1984 elite", "its not your game then why you play it", "you don't like science fiction" etc etc.. always the same boring answers.
I respect your opinions 1984 Elite fans, i played the hell out of all the series too and i loved them, i love science fiction, i love space games and i love and play all kind of simulators too, everything fits!
Still this game is meh, good sounds, nice graphics (if we can say that on a space game), decent simulation, really its gives all the immersion it needs and still they skipped the most important stuff (at least for me), the interesting, well designed and built content which keeps the player interesting and busy for ages.
I don't know what you guys looking for in a good game, but for me its always the content what matters first, everything else is second on the line, they can make the most shiny awesomeness world if there's nothing to do there!
Before you think i gave up on ED, no i'm not, but i really feel sad looking at it, even though i love it, i simply can't make myself start playing because lack of motivation.
Why should i play tell me, to go and explore the copy/paste star systems with great looking... but all the same planets/suns.
I should go bounty hunting maybe, yea ok the fighting part is enjoyable even against NPCs but there are so many combat related problems ruins the fun...
The weapons are terribly unbalanced, no reason to use anything else than gimballed pulse laser or multi-cannon, all the other weapons are terribly ineffective overall.
Often you don't even get bounty because of some weird bug happening!
And there's mining... ok i tried it for days, i not going to touch it again until they figure out some game mechanics actually enjoyable, that cargo scoop is hilarious and not just for mining, but also for pirates.
Yes also for pirate activities, its wasting of time... even if you manage to find valuable cargo and convince your target to drop it out (with guns or words) you will spend a half hour just collecting the loot.
Basically you can get more reward for your effort doing ANYTHING else and we talking about being a !pirate! the most dangerous and risky job of all!
Missions are boring with all the USS junk and hilariously unrewarding, they really ask me to fly into another system, SC all the way to some station then back for 5000 credit?
OK there are "kill that next anaconda" missions... all the same and horribly boring, flying around looking for the same crappy USS all the time then finally find that anaconda and kill it for 180k!
Yea you heard it right, 180k for killing the most dangerous and biggest ship of the game, !!!!!!!!180K!!!!!!!!!! i can make twice of that from one trip of completely safe trade run!
And here we finally got there... the trading!
All honestly, i trying to love it, i trying very hard but.... its just.... sooo simple and dumb.
Don't hate me too much for saying this, but even European Truck Simulator 2 beat this games trading mechanics!
What makes me even more disappointed about all of this, trading is WAAAAAY the most profitable activity you can do in the game, its like 5-10 times more rewarding than anything else even if you doing it with a pretty basic Cobra or Type-6!
Trading is completely safe, yes completely, you can go solo mode and the only danger you will face is your bad memory forgot to ask for docking premission... seriously!
OK rage off, sorry guys, the reason why im so much frustrated about ED because i wanted it to be great, FD had so great promises, good marketing, yet they failed to deliver even 10% of what they promised.
Looking on their trailers i was very excited, you can be a trader, a bounty hunter, a pirate YAY! ok you can be a trader, nothing else if you ever want to afford anything better than a Cobra...
You can't be anything, you will run out of contents in less than a week playing 2-3 hours a day, lets face it guys, even if you like the genre, the content is horrible and boring.
Why would I want to write a wall of text to say I like a game.
I just like Elite Dangerous and could not care less if others don't.
What I don't like is others telling me what I should and shouldn't like. Then burbling on about it.
Well, I just saw someone saying he got bored and went back to wow because there is more sense of direction and fun, so nothing really comes as surprising anymore
I had to LOL alot, nearly LOL'ed of my chair

I don't feel cheated, im sorry to see some of you did..I love this game, and have great hopes fo it. I even got a Elite tattoo across my butt. Honestly what did you Guys exspect ??
We do not, and better dead than compromised. The more I read your posts the more you sound like an SC fanboy thats bored and bitter because you don't actually have a game to play.
Honestly something more than a boring mini-game called super cruise between another mini-games called docking.
More seriously, i expected something more than Elite from 1984, but hell i expected even more than Elite First Encounter from 95, now look what we have in ED.
Like i said, everything is awesome up until we get to the content part, lets be honest everyone, don't tell me you are fine with this.
I mean come on, these guys on FD and especially the lead developers have tens years of experience in development, don't tell me they can't figure out a proper game mechanics and enough content for a game like this!
My english is not enough to write this down, but i hope many of you know how i feel when i say proper game mechanics and interesting long-term game contents.
You know, real exploration, rare interesting places, exceptionally valuable findings, rare dangerous npcs like aliens or whatever, real sandbox features like player property, own hangars, own stations/shops/services/whatever, i could list this all night, but i think everyone can understand where i trying to get to.
The real problem is not only the lack of content, but also what we have now is terribly linear, there are no random factor on a 400 billion random universe, sounds a bit weird don't you think?
Oh and one thing i really really hate, i mean i really damn hate it, why i have to fight through endless waves of hostile of npcs 1500 LY away from the closest inhabited system??????????
Well my "guildies" or Clan as we like to call it would probably camp systems and charge tolls or kill those who refuse, we would take control of territory and expand onto that imposing our will on whomever is unfortunate enough to encounter us. Of coarse this would cause rifts and create opportunities for other groups of players to band up against us.
