So, I'm 1500 light years out, where's the stations?

Well, you're the only person to be there since. Ever. You think people are everywere? After a while theres no one. Just you and your ship.

Maybe some aliens but we'll get to them soon enough.

You explore for fun and money. Not to meet new people.

By the way there are a few far out inhabited systems like Aditi and Fehu, but not more than 500 LY methinks. They got cool luxury stations.

And 1500LY is not THAT FAR

Dude. far out! Lterally!

OH and Sutex, if you had your way you would have everything "HARDCORE MODE" and while you would talk about how bad ass it is, you would still never play because you got tired of dying.

While I somewhat disdain the "its to hard to land in stations" crowd, I equally disdain the Keyboard meatheads who want it HARDCORE, just enjoy the game ...

I think ED needs to be more hardcore too. I think it should be played with a HOTAS made of wild bears and with rabid wolves tied to your feet. Every time you jumps to another system you're required to punch a cage fighter in the face and every time you get shot you should receive a kick in the 'nads by Chuck Norris. All while surfing sharks with hand grenades clenched in your buttocks and chewing razor blades coated in Scotch Bonnet chilli.

Radio & not all radio waves some bounce back to Earth ie AM, travel at the speed of light , TV , been a stronger signal will travel out , given ED is set in 3300 You should be able to pick up these broadcast where you are :) , if you have a TV on your ship, but people/stations no. On your own out there Maybe you'll find some ALIENS !

This was the basis of the opening to the film 'Contact', wasn't it? The Aliens beaming back the first strong TV transmission back to us. Which turned out to be the 1936 Olympics, setting off NASA's Godwin Alarm :)

I ran into the same thing today. Federation became hostile to me so I decided to try to find some empire systems. I headed "north" (up, in the galactic plane) and ran out of civilized systems fairly quick. Happily, after limping back into occupied space with my ship's integrity at 49%, I did make 200k + for selling my exploration data. Still haven't found any Empire systems, though.

South is where you will find the flouncing powdered foo foo brigade :)

I hope that human territory will expand as players discover pristine valuable resources sites and Earth-like planets. That's the plan anyway (remember when they said Ocellus stations were designed to be moved to new systems whene needed?), I really hope they go through with this. I'm pretty sure it's not implemented yet, I wonder if in the future it will be managed by the background sim or if it will require the devs to place new stations.

Anyway I hope someday we have stations near nebulae for example, so we have something to do there except just passing by to get scan data and enjoy the view before going back hundreds or thousands of light-years.

I was just thinking about this the other day... what's the point of advertising billions of systems if there's nothing in any of them?

im half tempted to move to a fringe system and explore the background sim and see if theres any way currently that colonisation is working and we may not have seen it yet, devs have been quie so far.

I decided it was time to venture forth and get away from all the trade areas that exist in that 300ly sphere around the starting area. However, i haven't run into a station in a 1000 light years. Is this a known thing I missed?

After reading your reply on how we should have expanded further in 1000 years later I'm the thread
In all honesty, I don't know what your expecting.
The 500 light year bubble that consists of inhabited contains literally thousands of inhabited systems.
To put that in context, we would have to colonize about 4 star systems a year, from now, to even hope to get whare the ED Galaxy is by 3200.

I'm going to drift slightly off topic here, but bear with me, may make an interesting read.

I once participated in a study comparing science fiction to science fact in the last 60 years, and on many varied technological and theoretical sciences they had in the old school sci-fi we have already surpassed in today's technology, this was a recurring theme in many sci-fi's even as late as the late 1980's. And even a couple that spanned into the 90's.
The one common exception to this pattern was the concept of space travel. This has advanced far slower than pretty much all sci-fi had predicted.
A good example I always remembered is Star Trek. The next generation, in this series, set in about the 2370's they claimed that the human race had physically explored 7% of our Galaxy. Sounds doable with warp speeds that are hundreds of times the speed of light right?...wrong! That's still over 210 million star systems!!

The problem is, space is just so big.. Very, very, big! Infinitely so! With billions of stars in our own Galaxy, and over 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe, it starts to add up real fast!
Even assuming humanity did discover some form of instant jump drive that could traverse star systems in our lifetime, the chances of us colonising as much space as we inhabit in ED is still extremely unlikely. In reality, we will be lucky if we have left our star system at all in a thousand years.

Another interesting point that our study brought up was that the majority of people (about 60 something %) "don't believe in alien life" existing elsewhere in the universe. Let's look at this statement carefully, given the size of the Galaxy and the number of galaxies that we know about, think of the hundreds of billions of billions of planets out there, (an unimaginable number to most people who just can't concieve the vastness of the universe) then the mathematical probability of there being "no life" out there on all those worlds is so absurd, that statisticaly, life existing elsewhere is now a mathematical certainty.

Ellie Arroway: You know, there are four hundred billion stars out there, just in our galaxy alone. If only one out of a million of those had planets, and just of out of a million of those had life, and just one out of a million of those had intelligent life; there would be literally millions of civilizations out there.
Palmer Joss: [looking the night sky] Well, if there wasn't, it'll be an awful waste of space.

im actually going to start a group i think that picks a far away right on the edge system. It will be a test of the influence system, but it will also watch for signs of the devs implementing a colony expansion system. We will in the meantime attempt to build the economy, get food and populatin growth up, boost the security and wealth ratings of the system in question and then when colonisation comes attempt to expand the faction in all directions, well away from the established systems. Will use it as a bit of a test

means I want it easier , my ship got hurt

There should clause in GAMES this days for the CAREBEARS , go do something safe, like sleeping This space game is called Elite DANGEROUS

What's the bet ED DEV's already have plans to dumb this game down to appease "THERE SHOULD BE..blah blah.... IT'S ALL TOO HARD CROWD"
NEXT autopilot & station every few light years doh!

If I had my way Radiation leaks given all over damage would mean going though a wormhole (jump drive) would have blow you ship to bits.

EDIT maybe it's time for DARK SOULS in space :)

For me I want a smart game A space game a REAL GAME given its trying to use REAL WORLD data.

Hi,

First of all, I wasn't saying there should be stations out there, I do admit it'd be cool to find them here and there, but you took that post all wrong. I was saying to be effective, you need to be around stations for the sake of your ship, that's all.

Second of all, I really appreciate your ability to come into a thread and start flaming. You have got to be the best i've ever seen.

Most of this game is theoretical at best. Astronomically they strive to be accurate, which is absolutely fantastic. It sounds like you need a REAL real game, you know a man's game, go survive in a forest or something. That way I'm not subject to reading your comments on the forums.

There's a thread with an amazing read in this discussion forum about a guy who's fighting for a certain faction. They have increased the influence in the sector over 30% since my last read of it, and the sector was in civil war. Pretty awesome stuff.
